I love my 2001 Saturn 3-door but it is a tad underpowered with their 4-cylinder. Is there a drop-in -- large 6 or small V-8 -- that will stay on the road with the present set-up?
theres nothing wrong with 4 cylinders. i havent seen any saturns with that kind of a swap. it would be cheaper (and probably lighter) just to turbo it unless your heart is really set on swapping this saturn.
the 7 bolt 4g63 engines are known to crank walk. there are a significant amount of people swapping in the older 6 bolt engines in place of the 7 bolt as it doesnt have this issue. id say just pick up a blown 6 bolt and have it built with aftermarket pistons and rods, maybe stroke it out. are you planning on an aftermarket EMS?
Sometimes you just need to talk these things out. I ordered a Saturn Sky and for reasons which are not important, I finally gave up on ever test riding one ("We're not giving test rides. Yes, we've had your money since November.") or getting my color ("That won't be available until August. Yes, I know it's on all the websites."). I do love my Black Stallion which surprises people with it's git up and go but, well, retirement does strange things to a person. Thanks for the feedback. And it gets 38 or 40 mpg on long rides.
A national news magazine is looking to interview college students who has “pimped” out his/her ride Have you tricked out your car with big rims, outrageous stereos, wild paint jobs, spoilers, ground effects, neon lights, nitrous, the works . Please send an e-mail to ctalati@edmunds.com no later than Friday, June 9, 2006 by 5:00 PM PT/8:00 PM ET containing your daytime contact information and the make and model of the car you’ve “pimped” out.
Hi Wilson, that's an old pickup that was been badged differently in the States - my guess is that your rig was sold here as a Chevy S-10 but don't hold me to it (Generations).
Hello. I was wondering if anyone knew how to swap a 1989 Camaro RS 305 engine into a 1992 4x4 S10 that originally had a 4.3L in it. I'm looking for two answers. 1 - detailed instructions on how to and 2 - what new parts i would have to buy and modifications i would have to make. Thanks a bunch.
it came with a 2.5L 4 cyl. block is bad cant find another engine. i have a really nice 4.2L 258 cu in from a 84 eagle. it is carbuerated. has anyone got any experience doing a swap like this and can advise what has to be done as to the computer and wiring issues. thanks jim waddell...or, does anyone know of either a rebuildable or good running 2.5?
in any case, i'm wondering the need. The '92 4.3 had 160hp, right? The '89 Camaro RS (according to a source I just found) had 170. They both had the same torque (230). Not to mention the fuel-injected carburetor thing that chevy dubbed TPI vs the more advanced fuel injection system of the 4.3.
I also know there is a plug-in chip for the 4.3 that improves its power quite a bit (i don't have hard numbers on this, only past experience).
So why go through the trouble? Only reason I can think of is that the 4.3 engine is blown and you happen to have the 305 on hand?? Heck, it would be alot easier, and probably cheaper, to go find another s10 with a good engine.

I'm getting ready to stab a 1990 302&AOD out of a mustang into a 1970 ranchero. Any good tricks of the trade you would like to share on this one. I would like to use the wire harness out of the mustang instead of the after market one.
Hi, My dh is going to try and pull out and swap the motor from the Mercury Vil. It is a 96 model really nice. My question is how dose it come out? Dose it come from the bottem, or dose it come out of the top? I know you are probbly lol thats ok. Thank you for your time.
I'm In need of some extra hp for my 01 golf, my plan is to do an engine swamp to a vr6 and then to get a supercharger but I'm wondering once i up the horses that much wont other adjustments need to be made and if so what? and how much should expect to be dishing out for the other maintnance? and should i just take care of that stuff when i do the engine swap? :confuse:
I have a 1988 XJ in need of a motor replacment. I also have a totaled but drivable 1994 XJ 4.0l H.O. I would like to swap the motor, trans, transfer case from the 1994 to the 1988 complete.. What is involved? Is there any manuals on this??
I want to modifie my 1990 toyota celica and make it a beast. I recently tough that it may be possible to put a 1990 toyota camry v6 engine and man trans under the hood. Is this possible or what else can i do. :confuse:
I have a 1987 Nissan Stanza wagon and the transmission is shot. My mechanic told me if I could find a salvage one he will swap them out for me. I found a 1987 Nissan Stanza car and was wondering if the transmission is the same. I have no idea how to find out. Help!
The salvage yard should know this. If you are buying from a private party, first thing you need to do is test the unit if you can. If it's just lying around in someone's garage, I don't think this is a good idea.
You might also try searching the Internet for used or rebuilt transmission specialists and e-mail or call them about this interchange. My instincts tell me there should be no difference as long as the wagon has the same engine as your car. However, it is possible you might have to route a few lines this way or that and use your own driveshaft of course.
Another way is just measure your trans and then the used unit, and snag a number off it if you can. Maybe you could drive your car to the used unit and just crawl back and forth until you're sure.
I have a question about o2 sensors. I'm trying to put a fuel injected motor into my boat and was wondering how i can trick the computer into thinking there are still some o2 sensors at work. Do i need to go through the problem of doing this?? I'm open to any suggestions. Thankyou
The '87 Stanza wagon is really a Nissan Prairie rather than a Stanza/Bluebird derivative. Still, if the wagon isn't a 4WD model, the tranny from a Stanza should fit as they both used the CA20 in the US.
I was thinking of running a 350 crank in a 400 block and was wondering if i need to run 350 rods and pistons or 400's or if i can go to 327 rods and pistons
I havbe a 1990 Cherokee, with the 4.0. i want to swap it out with a built mopar 360ci, with a 4br carb. i also have a mopar727 with the transfer case out of a 1986 Ram charger. can anyone or everyone tell me what im getting myself into. ive done things like this befor but never with a Jeep, i love my cherokee and dont want to buchter it by doing this swap, but im still going to do it. got any advice?
I need some suggestions for an engine swap for my Ford Escort....I want a more powerful engine that I can drop into the Escort body, but I don't know what will fit or even if I can do it...Anyone have any suggestions for me and maybe and estimate on how much it might cost total for swap and all the other stuff I got to do to it to make it work...
67 would be better. Remember, 67 is when FOMOCO redid the Mustang to accept the FE-series motors, starting with the 390. The car "grew" so there was a little more room in the engine compartment. Even then it was a tight fit, particularly the driver's side. Don't get me started on plug changes :surprise:
65 is too narrow. It can be done, but it'll be NASTY. Even doing the 351W swap into a 65 is tight, clearancing of the shock towers being needed. Can usually just indent the shock towers slightly in the effected areas to make the 351 swap, no need to cut them. Use block-hugger headers and there you go. To get a big-block in the 65 to towers may have to be removed and new ones made - I wouldn't suggest cutting them up, structural integrity and all.
Hey. I have a '92 Toyota Corolla 4dr sedan with a 3 spd auto. I just did something serious to the engine, not sure what yet, but I figure on replacing it so I was just wondering if there were any engine swaps for my car that would give me more than my original 102hp and how hard it would be to put in a manual tranny
hi im new to the import world and i hae a 2006 tiburon im lookin at buyin a jdm 4g63 non turbo engine i was wondering if anyone knows if i could put that engine in the tibby and how hard it would be thanks for your help hope to hear from u soon
hey i have a 2000 gls vr6 and i want to make it faster but i dont know what to do i was thinking in a chip.. do y have to put anything else before installing it and how many horse power would i get out of it.
I have a 1992 toyota paseo with a tiny 1.5L motor and I want to upgrade to a little bit larger engine like a toyota celica 2.2L or if possible 2.0L turbo. I want to keep it simple if possible. What advise can you give me about a good engine with some good power?
I'm looking for information about installing a 300D engine into a 240 D body. My 1980 240D just ate the #2 cylinder and I thought this might be a good opportunity to get a bit more power from my vehicle. The body of the 240 is in excellent condition and best of all, it has a manual transmission. Will the 300 bolt up to the transmission? Can I use the same flywheel from the 240? Will I need to go to heavier front springs due to the extra weight of the 300? Would I be able to use the turbo diesel engine or non-turbo? Conversely, could I install the manual transmission and fllywheel from the 240D into a 300D? I have an opportunity to purchase either a 300TD or a 300D. This would be much less labor if the swap is possible. Is there someone out there with experience in this matter? I have plenty of expertise is working on vehicles (was an aircraft mechanic, also ran a fleet of 40 vehicles) so I'm not afraid to try something new. Thank you. 240downer
There is absolutely no reason to do that. The engine in the 4-cylinder Tibby is essentially a mirror-image version of a 4g63 already, so everything would be backwards, none of the engine or transmission mounts will line up right, and you won't gain anything from the swap. Get a super or turbo kit for the Tibby and have fun with that.
Hi, have a 91 sierra(1/2 ton truck) with 4.3 v6. Want to swap a 87 305 v8(complete donor car). the Sierra has a manual tranny. Any helpful hints, suggestions, ideas, links, publications, etc will be appreciated. thanks ub
i am going to attempt to swap out my original celica 02's engine with a 2jz-gte. i have a friend and a garage for help but i don't think either of us know enough about the exact details not to get bogged down with this giant undertaking. (so it seems to me)
do you know of anyone who can help me through this? even if it is just to point me to a manual or the right direction that would be great.

:confuse:
The V6 in the '90 camry only puts out 156 hp/160 lb-ft. Not exactly "beastly," especially when you'll be adding weight to the nose of your car.
If you have a GT or GTS, then you are already better off than if you swap in the heavier V6. If you have an ST, then I suggest looking for a GT/GTS.
