I thought this photo was interesting because the cars in it range from the 1940s to the late 50s or perhaps the early 60s. I think the earliest car is the tall black one that's third in the leftmost lane.

What's the newest?

For me the interesting thing in that pic is how the federal govt "Canada Immigration" signage is in English only. While the locale might not have many French-language speakers, for decades now everything the feds have done here has been in both official languages. You haven't lived until you attend some event in an English-speaking part of Canada where a local federal MP is compelled to break into badly broken French in the middle of a speech.

So nobody got the Ferrari Sergio? Very interesting-looking design from about 6 years ago.

That's a Lancia Flavia ca. mid 60s, perhaps a Zagato Sport.

I think that Canadian border crossing is now known as the "truck crossing " (Pac Highway) just east of Peace Arch at the WA/BC border. The old car at left is definitely prewar, gives me a 39-40 Ford vibe. Newest car maybe the Lark?

Close, it's a 1969 Lancia Fulvio Sport Zagato. I just love the design of that car.

Really?.... it's one of my least favorite Lancias, it looks kind of blob-like. I'm generally not a fan of Zagato designs. There are some exceptions>

Yup, I think the Studebaker Lark (introduced early 1959) is the newest car visible. The Lark beat the Big 3 introduction of their "compact cars" by nine months.

BTW-Hemmings identifies the locale as Douglas BC.

...and Rambler beat the Lark out in 58 with its American. The retooling of the bigger Rambler in 58 was also prescient on George Romney's part.

not sure of exact year but will guess it is a 1970 Javelin. Wonder if it really was used as a trooper chase car (and if not that one, ones like it)? Predated the Mustang LX 5.0 by a good 20 years!

I remember those. That's an Alabama Dept of Public Safety 1972 Javelin SST. Or a tribute car?

One of the car magazines back then claimed that Javelin had a handling and speed problem at upper limits because of friction with the protruding front body lines. Don't really know personally.

I can believe that. I was able to drive many new domestic cars in the 70's and even more that were just 2 or 3 years old. They all handled like pigs at speeds from 100 to 110 mph. They were all stock Detroit iron as delivered by the dealer. Brakes, shocks, tires, heavy and bad aero. I never believed claims back then that a bone-stock Super Bee or Malibu SS could hit 140 to 150 (!) mph. And even if true (not true) how did the driver live to tell about it? How many lanes of freeway did it take up to keep it on the highway?

I don't like driving my Cutlass at 70 these days. Back years ago I could and guess I got used to it because I was driving it a lot, but now it is a little spooky.

Honestly the caption and story were vague about the year but definite in stating that they were deployed by the ASP.

related to that BMW, I saw "racing in the rain" Saturday. Lead actor (human, not the dog) had the same car throughout the movie (about 12 years elapsed). A really nice looking steel blue color BMW 3.0CSI. Love that car.

Close, it's the USDM version of the 2500 sold as the BMW Bavaria
. The Bavaria was basically a 2500 into which they shoehorned a 2800 I-6. This was said to be the brainchild of US importer Max Hoffman, the same man who created the 2002 by putting the motor from the larger BMW 2000 into the 1602.

The E9 family that includes the 2500/2800/Bavaria and 3.0 Si (which replaced the Bavaria here were known as the Neue Six cars.

Yup, it's a 1950 Jaguar XK-120 OTS. OTS in Jaguar-speak was short for Open Two Seater which is what we call a Roadster. The OTS was sold alongside another open model, the XK-120 DHC (Drop-Head Coupe) which had a folding top and a less minimal windshield.>



The traditional roadster or OTS was supposedly more amenable for racing being slightly lighter and with an easily removable windshield. A decade late when the E-Type was introduced it came either as a FHC (Fixed Head Coupe) or a Roadster which had a folding top that did not have to be assembled for weather protection (as on the OTS) and a more or less permanent windshield frame.

79-80 Ford Fiesta. One of my dad’s friends had a silver w/black interior, ac, am/fm radio. It was a good driving little car with a surprisingly supple ride for its size.

when I was a senior in HS one of my friends mom got one. Orange I think with the stripe. I drove it once. Loved it. fun little car.

Oh, a mid-60s Gordon-Keeble, one of several GT designs of the era to use American V8
power (Chevy 327 IIRC). Like most it had Italian coachwork...Touring perhaps.

I was the Gordon Keeble poster. I'm fascinated by those cars. I like the styling inside and out, and from all reports they were pretty well sorted almost right from the start. The 327 Chevy engine under the hood must make it scoot along nicely.
