And an unlovable Suzuki X-90 next to it.

I cannot begin to tell you how much I loathe those Suzukis.
What did they do to you to earn that enmity?

When they were first on the market here I saw one at a new-car show. It was just hideous. Looked like it needed a wind-up key on the back. I couldn't believe anyone would actually buy one.
Well, you almost knew someone who did. Wife and I briefly talked about getting one for her son when he turned 16. The combination of AWD and only 2 seats was somewhat enticing.

I remember the Suzuki X 90 - it was on sale here from 1995-7 but not many sold - although a few years ago they were still about. Some had hideous colour schemes too including metallic lilac or purple usually with stripes decals.

Yeah, I think Suzuki wanted to position it for the females.

What they failed to realize is that the tough girls were buying Jeep Wranglers or lifted 4x4's, even then.

I remember back in the day, the radio station in the small town where my mom lives had a couple X90s as their promo vehicles (odd, as a Suzuki dealer must have been 90 minutes away at least). My brother liked those, and Samurais, but he'd have modded it if he got one. I want to say one was red, one blue or purple.

I like it compared to the aggressive faux butch designs of modern times, anyway. No leering eyes, no gaping grille, no slashed about creasing. It's not pretending to be anything, it's just a fun runabout.

Somewhat grainy pic maybe from newsprint, but I thought the very "1975" assortment of cars was amusing:

Found this in the Ruscha collection at the Getty Museum, from June of 1966. I thought I knew what the convertible was, until I didn't.

Was thinking Peugeot 404, but the wing window doesn't look right.

Oddly, the pic doesn't load in the post, but I can open it via right click.

No, I'm pretty sure that's an Oldsmobile.

That side strip travels from the front fender toward the rear of the car going very close to the front door handle and then continues onto the rear door. Then the big clue. It "jumps over" the rear door handle and continues toward the rear of the car at a higher elevation. 1967 Plymouth Fury III.

I agree, Olds, earlier version of the RFK Chappaquiddick car.

No. Here's the brochure pic of the 1967 Fury III. The car in the original pic isn't this.

Guessing a Hudson. Whatever it is, the rear view looks like it was copied from a 52/54 Ford!

Thats a Hawker Hunter - I built an Airfix Kit of one once

I'll leave the car as its a Brit

    Armstrong-Siddeley something
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,672
Yup an Armstrong-Siddeley Sapphire ca. early-mid 50s. Sapphire was also the name of the turbo-jet used in early versions of the Hawker Hunter.

Yes, they followed it up with the Star Sapphire which looks pretty much the same but with a shorter radiator grille and different wing profile. Armstrong Siddeley were ultimately part of Hawker Siddeley and stopped manufacture of cars in 1960 apart from a few failed launches of some prototypes that never got to production

Spokane, 1983 or so. The Arbys sign is still there, I also notice an old fashioned directional sign with the old way Spokane used to label streets, with the directional label a prefix in front of the street number and name (S. 123 Main St instead of 123 S. Main St etc)
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,533
nice early gen 3 Camaro in the center. and the brown truck under the Motel sign looks like a Scout to me.

The red VW is a '66-'69, it has the flatter hubcaps and the "1300" badge on the .lid.

Here's one from 1962 taken in the Bunker Hill section of Los Angeles, via the Huntington Library. This pic should expand nicely. I have discovered that British cars seemed to do better on either coast than in Middle America, not surprising I suppose when you consider they had to come over by ship.

Thats a great picture at Bunker Hill - really great colour and the house looks like the Addams family summer bungalow.

I think the red car is a 54 Mercury but no idea as to the model

The Brit is an Austin and at first I thought an A50 Cambridge but the bonnet looks too long for that so it could be the six cylinder version making it an A90 Westminster - from the windscreen back they were pretty much the same car I think
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,533
Can’t tell if hat a Plymouth TC3 or Dodge 024. Gill looks like dodge but picture is dark on my iPad.

Nice Granada 2 door across the street.

The British cars also sold WAY better on the coasts than in the middle. They were very rare in Cincinnati.

    @tjc78

I think this is an early 80's Mercury Capri although I have no idea about the model or exact year - not a car we got here so a bit outside my comfort zone really

The black car is an 85 Dodge Charger. @stickguy was close, not sure when they changed the name. It was a brand new car in that picture (Mom's). That was my bike, lol

Can any one identify the rear corner peaking out ahead of the Charger?

Roughly the same location, modern times - you can "travel" down the street in google maps and see the vintage sign.

    I agree about the Scout.

That 54 Mercury (Monterey, I guess) looks really rough for a not insanely old car in California. Maybe a transplant.

My grandparents had a similar car back in the day. And with the age gaps in the family, those kids aren't my aunts/uncles or parents, they are cousins:

    Maybe an 80-83 Mirada/Cordoba? Or a Panther LTD/Grand Marquis?

A view of the old ferry across the Severn Estuary at the head of the Bristol Channel between Wales and England - the bridge was completed in about 1964 I think. EDIT - it opened in 1966 so this picture must be a year or two older

Not much of any real interest here but one has come a bit further.

    Should expand with a click

Panther, yes. 1980 Mark VI Givenchy. Pop's car. Almost burned to a crisp in the driveway one morning while warming up to take me to school.

Is that the cornering light lit? Looks like the light fixture has two sections. One neat thing about Ford's take on cornering lights is that there was a time delay from when the turn signal cancelled and the cornering light turned off. That gave a little more time to make a manuever and have the area lit. With GM cars, the cornering light cancelled immediately with the turn signal.

No that's a running light. The cornering lamp is behind (lol we are having cornering light discussions in two threads).

Yes, the delay was nice. It was shortened over time. My box Panthers stayed on longer than my 2004 MGM.

I can't remember the 79 if it had a delay or not. It probably did.
