Yeah the Bueller car looks too wide to be an MG...that's just the story I've read.
I know about Corvette based Daytona replicas anyway.
And even when that movie was made, a California would have been worth too much to ruin in a movie. As a kid, I knew it had to be some kind of special effects.
There was a dumb kids movie about 10 years ago set in South America...the bad guys (of course) had a kind of grungy black fintail that got hit by a train...that really irked me. It crashed pretty well though, the rear crumple zone was proven, and the back windshield popped out as intended.
I can understand why no one wanted to name the 2002 Bravada. It was emblematic of GM's pathetic management that the last new Oldsmobile would be a Trailblazer with a body kit.
When GM intro'd the Fiero they announced that it was intended to be a "commuter car" but enthusiasts began clamoring for sportscar performance to match the mid-engined layout and styling.
The sports car performance didn't arrive until late in the run with the introduction of the V6 and revised front suspension. Previously power came from the GM Iron Duke I-4 (Citation, Celebrity etc.) and the front suspension was pure Chevette.
For some reason a cult has built up around these cars even though at best it's performance was marginal compared to it's competitor from Toyota, the redoubtable first gen MR-2.
I had one of these. Bought it new in 84, I had the first black one in the area. Body was all bolt on fiberglass and flexable panels over what they called a space frame. The gas tank sat under the console between the seats. It was a fun car. One of the most fun things were when you hit about 60 mph you could actually feel the car suck down to the road about an inch. The 3 bad things I hated about the car were: 1. hard to turn in the snow it always wanted to go straight, 2. in the rain if you hit a big puddle it would come up on to your windshield. 3. too low, you would constantly get cut off in parkway traffic larger cars couldn't see you. I got cutoff 3 times one morning by the same woman and got cutoff a few more times that night. Next day I traded it in on an 85 Mercury Grande Marque.
That was the first generation, the face-lift came later and made it look less square in the B-pillar area.
Early models with the Iron Duke had some engine fires, and IIRC GM's "fix" was simply to use a bigger oil filter to increase the oil capacity.
So right from the start the car had an iffy reputation. A co-worker of mine had a 2M4 model and really struggled to sell it. The V6 was better but still didn't perform all that well.
I think the Solistice is a better 2 seater, even for its day.
Yep, it's hard to keep Lancia model names straight. the picture shows a Lancia Fulvia Berlina GTE, a rare sight in North America, we're more familiar with the Fulvia Coupe, a FWD pioneer from the 60s.

You've got the right make but the FB car was a replica of the fabled 250GT Spider California and that's not what 6163 is. Close, but no cigar Mike.

The California like in Ferris Bueller was much sexier. I always assumed it was supposed to be a LWB car, too. It was a decent enough replica for a mainstream movie
I've heard it's actually an MGB under all that!

Rocky, this one is all yours.
I love the way GM takes Opels and says "hey look!... at the new car we designed" (Malibu MAXX)
#6175 is not a Saab, but that is the proper mindset.
Yep, it's the PF Cabrio, a '62, so one of the last of the line.
I thought the Spider California replicas were Corvette based.

I always feared they REALLY destroyed such a rare Ferrari.

THis one is a formula model. Dual pipes, so it should be a 2M6 (V6).
I don't think I have ever even sat in one. WOnder what they are like?

Let's see, correct title is Toyota FJ, isn't it? No cruiser to be found!
Just a 4Runner underneath anyway.
