54 Mercury Monterey me thinks. That is really really nice. If I had a collection this would be in it along with a 50 Ford and a 50 or 51 Merc. I think the Fords and Mercs from 1949 to 1954 were the best looking American cars ever made. 54-58 Chevys and 53-54 Buicks are my second choices. I'm saving a copy of this one..... :D

    It is a '54 Monterey.

Another Ferrari. Unless it's a 308, I've got no idea about the models.

    It is a '54 Monterey.

A '53 Monterey was used in the Desi Arnez/Lucille Ball movie The Long, Long Trailer. Anyone recall that movie? The trailer was a 32 footer, made by New Moon. I'd like to see the current Monterey pull that! :D LOL

Ferrari 500 Superfast, ca. 1965. Unusual looking, but kind of cool from some angles, a LWB big Ferrari. This was the very top of the line when new.

Behind it looks like a 250GT SWB.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Yes, the car in front is a 500 Superfast. I think the other black coupe is a close cousin of the SWB known as the 250GT Interim Berlinetta, it was a transition between the TDFs and the SWBs, the curvature of the top of the side window is different and IIRC it has the longer wheelbase
    of the 250 TDF.

I'm surprised you didn't mention the black Spider California that is also visible in the background. The red car is probably a 250GT LM.

    You're 1.5 for four, Fintail ;)

    Good timing...

Yeah, the red car is a 250 LM. It kinda looks like a Dino, but the wiper is a giveaway.

Z8 with a somehow odd looking hardtop. I don't know if that makes it special.

OK, I cheated...I see the dealer with that car is a stones throw from me.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Fin, AFAIK the hardtop is the optional OEM item for the Z8.

47 or 48 or 49 Buick, either a Roadmaster or Super. More than likely a Super since there isn't much chrome on the sides. I'll go with a Super.... :confuse:

From the wheels, I'd say that is one of the later non-Studebaker Avanti models...

    Early '80s?

(Really... I don't know.. the bumpers look like they would come from the original in the '60s... but, the wheels scream '80s)

1970 Chevrolet 4 door Impala or Caprice (had a 2 door Caprice once) Move, just a wild guess Killer Klowns from Outer Space..... I really have no idea.....

    It's an Impala...you got it

The pic is from the chase scene in "Marathon Man", where a [non-permissible content removed] war criminal flees in, what else, a fintail

That shot was undoubtedly made in my former neighborhood, the Uppper East Side (of Manhattan).

is correct. They went to a squared off headlight surround in the '64 and later editions of the Avanti.

Studebaker Avanti are decidedly not the original wheels which were stamped steel, covered by conical wheel disc covers.

I think they're from a '70s Volvo or Buick. :confuse:

Let see here, it's definetly a 1957 Buick, and since it only has 3 ports on the fenders then the model would be most likley a Special. As for the wheels, who knows, I checked the Old Card Manual Project http://www.tocmp.com/
website and no wire wheels were listed as an option but they could have been a dealer installed option.

    Your curveball is a "GMC Sprint" vintage mid-late 70s, I'd say about a '77.

The Sprint of course was a rebadged Chevy El Camino.

You're correct about the '57 Bick Special.

close, the Sprint name was changed to something else that goes with the El Camino thyme. Think Spanish....

"There's something about an aqua Volvo, man."

    "Go to your room."

You're right, that was shameful... Think how many years I've been waiting to say that again...

My question is, what year was that wagon, anyway?

Studebaker Daytona. I'm going to with a '64 which would make it a Lark Daytona (the Lark name was dropped for '65).

You were right the first time, it's a '65...ergo a Studebaker Daytona V8. The wheel's on the right because it was sold in South Africa.

Kyfdx is right, it's a '60. '58s and '59s had chrome strips on the trunk and of course the '61s & 62s had the Ducktail rear.

Andre, I am going to have to take you out to the woodshed and have you punished severely if you persist in comparing Mustangs and Camaros to the likes of K-Cars and Miradas.

Well, okay, if you must. And yeah, you're right, a Mustang with a Pinto 4 or Fairmont 6, or a Camaro that was mainly cannibalizing its engines from the Citation and Celebrity was a real class act compared to one of them K-cars! :P
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,462
I kinda liked the 85-88 Cressida

Big fan of the Cressida's as well. Was a real foreshadowing of things to come in the form of Lexus and Acura.

I think it's earlier because of the wheels -- '72, '73 or '74 is my guess.
