How'd that 504 sneak into the country?

Well that was Watt it was ...

I must say the £113,000 price might be a bit steep though

    Somewhere in Germany

Peugeot 504 bottom right - left of that John Belushi driving an Audi 100
    - and behind the two following Benzes there is an NSU - I think the oval headlights mean its a 1000 or 1200 (or its successor the 110 / 120 )

Are the 4 similar cars sporting rectangular headlamps Ford Taunus models?

Yes, I think the rectangle light cars are various P7 Ford Taunus

I'll point out the only non-German which is the Peugeot 504 in lower left, it's next to a black Audi 100 and there's
a BMW Neue Klasse next to that which is one of several. The Bimmer is probably a 2002 (note blacked out grille).I'm not sure about the third car on the left which I think is a Ford Capri (2300?)

    @andys120

The Peugeot is registered in Saarbruken (SR) which is practically in France, and indeed Saar was occupied by France for much of the century after both WW1 & WW2 (the latter until 1956)

I think the third car on the left -behind the fintail - is an Opel Commodore

I knew someone who had an Audi 100 LS from about 1972 - one of our neighbours in Wales - and it was a comfortable car and very stylish...
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,229
The other thing with those Audis looking at that picture is how much more glass there was - most modern cars look more like a Hummer or something compared with anything from the 70s - although I appreciate the accident protection is the reason..

White 60 Ford wagon in the background along with the mid 50s Rambler wagon beside it look right at home with sports cars

Wow, a BMW 507 in the foreground. Had to be rare back then.

The red #87 is a "Spridget" (the MG Midget and second gen Healey Sprite were rebadged versions of the same car). I think it faces a pair of big Healey's. There is a Porsche 356A Speedster past them.

It is hilarious how huge those cars look compared to all of the little roadsters, Minis, etc.

I think the car with it's nose in the pic @ bottom right is a 1958-62 C1 Corvette. Up at the top row is a TR-3 next to the Rambler wagon and to the right a Bugeye Sprite next to a big 40s GM convertible (another extreme size contrast.)

Newest cars: the black Buick (a '62) or the 'vette (could be a '62)

Yup, too early for a Tiger White car on left near the Mini is an MG-A. The number 113 car is a Jag, most likely an XK-120 (I don't think many XK-140s were raced).

Speaking of racing cars, some of these might be a challenge (I think I posted this some time ago, but maybe long enough ago where nobody remembers):

    67 and 68 Camaros.

    Fintail of course.

Is the white racer a Chapperelle?

I was going to guess Chaparral, too, but it’s not a match for the pics I can find.

This is one I found interesting-looking, apparently from the New York City area, May 1965 as noted on the pic.

    Row of parked cars-left-to -right: mid-60s Dodge Dart ,1957 Ford,1959 Plymouth,1959 Chevy.

Also tail end of an orange /brown 1958 Chevy and a white '63 Plymouth nearby<blockquote class="Quote"

Fintail is odd in that mix of Chevy Powered vehicles, so is the small single seater next to it which is likely a Formula Vee or Formula Ford.

The bigger race car is likely a Can-Am car, most of those had big-block Chevrolet V8s but I don't know if it's a Chapparal/Chevy.

The four-door is a 1963 Ford Galaxie 500XL. You know what the convertible is!

My last two convertibles have had the same black/ red colors

1961 Ford Galaxie Town Victoria. Parked.
    1960 Ford Sunliner. Parked.

I think the car in the foreground is a relatively basic 65 Ford "Custom" (or Custom 500) two door sedan.

The Sunliner has the same dog dish caps as my dad's wagon, but the wagon also had thick beauty rings. The 61 in front of it also appears to have basic wheel covers.

In the New York picture, the bronze car whose rear end is sticking out on the other side of the white '63 Plymouth is kind of a rare sight; a '62 Ambassador.

Oh, my bad, I mistook the four door in the pic w the '60 Sunliner for a '63 Galaxie. What was I thinking, it is definitely 1961 MY!

An observation: the 1960 full size Fords were the only ones of that era not to have the full round taillights. IIRC that was true until the advent of the Mustang in 1964-5

Today, doing something like this in a Presidential motorcade might lead to rioting and arrests. I thought this one was rather amusing. Expands for a better look.

I think this is in Paris... Should expand

Ferrari must be a 250GT SWB, now no doubt worth many times more than every other vehicle in the pic combined.
  • ab348ab348 Member Posts: 20,323
Is that a Ferrari 250GT? Whatever, I’ll take it and the rest of you can fight over what remains.

The 250GT/SWB was one of the greatest Ferraris ever made. The alloy-bodied version was extremely successful in racing and the progenitor of the 250GTO as well as the 260GTCalifornia Spider. The presence of bumpers indicates that the pictured car is the steel-bodied "street version.

Stirling Moss won the Goodwood Trophy in 1963 listening to music on the car radio in the aluminum alloy race car.

Yes, that 250GT is probably now worth a few of the apartments in those blocks never, mind the cars...

For the record the white car preceding is a Simca 1000 and the blue one following is another - an Aronde...

Another 1966 Ruscha pic from the Getty Museum which expands some. Amazing what you might find in the parking lot of a walk-up apartment on Sunset Blvd back then.

I did some homework since I know little about Hooper & Co. The only "Empress" body car I could find was this Daimler>

It doesn't look it but this Daimler is postwar (1951).

I could find no pix of any Bentley R with that same shape of C-post.
