EDIT - It's just dawned on me that is not a Ford Popular - its an Anglia E494A. Everything I said about the Popular would apply in respect of fittings or the lack of them but this model was made 1948-53 before the Popular... There are a couple of differences but the only obvious one would be that the boot lid had an Anglia badge whereas the later one had a Popular badge so this picture doesn't help as that isn't visible. I can only tell because it occurred to me that it is registered in Essex (VX) with a number which would be too early for 1953 which is cheating really but NVX was issued in November 1948
Dagenham is of course in Essex so most Ford publicity shots were taken with Essex registrations
Yes, Ford were in a timewarp here until the sixties - this pick up from 1950 was a type which had a brake pedal where the throttle should be and vice versa until about 1954

Hahah; that wouldn't be awkward or anything!

This is an odd shot of a badly run-down part of New York taken in the 1980s. It's not surprising that there are no eighties cars but the oldies from the 50's and 60s are in seemingly nice shape except for the Rambler American wagon (Late 60s?)
57 Ford Fairlane 500 two-door post sedan has a broken taillight. The backup portion is cracked out of the rest. Side windows look like they've been damaged or replaced with plexiglass.
Well that certainly explains the lack of 1980s (or 70s) cars. The majority are '60s numbers, left to right. '62 Pontiac convertible/'62-3 Chevy/'65-66 Mustang Coupe/mid 60s(?)Rambler American/63-7 ChevyII or Nova. Who would park a decent covert in that area? There's two nice ones. Most likely taken in the South Bronx IMO.
There's a website for the Fordson E83W truck and it goes into all this - I've lifted a summary here. Full website is on http://www.e83w.co.uk/e83w.htm - it includes articles about "utility" conversions - basically crew buses or similar and there is even a Road Test described although the performance figures won't be rivalling anything with a V8...
There are actually still quite a few of these trucks preserved and they show up at shows.
It's what you get used to I suppose - I had a relative who had an old Morris Six and it had a right hand gear shift - ie it was between the (RHD) driver's seat and the door and I've driven several Hillmans with RHD right hand handbrakes
Found it! It is a NY Times photo dated September 3, 1968.
Was there a story behind it? Not an area I would want to walk around, day or night.
The photo is one of many interesting photos taken of NYC by Neal Boenzi. If anyone has an interest in NYC, it is worth the time and effort to search for the NYC photos taken by him.
In Airstream land, the MB Ponton (looks like a 4cyl car) and apparent Ford Taunus P1 12M driving by at the top make me think the pic isn't in North America.
"Tango 7" at Fort Lewis. I loved driving that thing. One day was dispatched to pick up a WAC at the bus station and bring her to the Fort. Found not one but twelve WACs needing transport. I had ten sitting in the back were there were long benches, one sitting in the passenger seat, and one sitting on the engine cover. What a fun ride that was.
If you blow this up, you might be able to get make/model> Those are stamped steel Rallye II wheels styled to look like "mags", they were seen on many cars as OEM back in the day

I'm not sure what AMC called those. Olds offered them as SSI wheels. Chevy called them SS wheels, at least in 1970. Others referred to them as Magnum 500 wheels. They came in many variations, either with a trim ring or fully chromed. They were made by Motor Wheel in Lansing, Mi.

I think they were known as Rallye II wheels at Pontiac where they were optional on several models.
IIRC Magnum 500s were slightly different and usually had chromed spokes and rims. Under the tarp is an AMX ca. '68-'69. Some at Hemmings think it has a 390 V8.

Yup, it's a 390. The rear fender call-out gives it away.

Canadian version of the Ford Econoline pick up. Not familiar with the name on the front, but Econoline is on the door.
Blow it up and you can read the name on front. it's "Mercury". Looks like they just took the roof off the bsck of the van version. Did we get that?
Sorry, but I tried that and still couldn’t read Mercury. I knew it started with an M and ended with a Y, and the letter count was right, but the rest of the letters didn’t look like ercury to my old eyes.
IIRC there was a well-known drag racer based on the Econ pickup. They made a scale model kit of it. Can you imagine the skill required to get any traction in a vehicle with 2/3 of the weight up front?

Something odd is going on in the grille of that Inca Orange BMW 2002 (later model w 5mph bumpers). Can't tell if the Ivy Green Mustang is a 1967 or a '68.

Mustang is 1967. It has a horizontal bar in the middle of the grill through the Mustang emblem.
