My Taurus had completely different wheels than any of those.

    I had these:

In 95 they changed the finish and put them on the SE model

I remember those machined finished wheels - IIRC the 95 LX or SE also had a different (more clear) headlight style.

Are you saying the normies don't discuss minuscule details of 30 year old family sedans? :)

I can get going about Ford Tempo details, little differences in MBs as the 80s progressed etc

Looks like the greenhouse of a Dart/Valiant sedan just above/behind the MG at right,

I’m like that with the Panthers. Woodgrain pattern differences, climate fonts, etc.

    It’s in our blood!

Taurus SHO models like my '92 wore various different wheels. Mine wore these good-looking five spokers>

The SHO, BTW was a great engine in search of a good car. :o

I think the plate is wrong. I don't see the 'teeth' what characterize the '52 grille. I'll go with texases' answer of '51.

That's why I left it out.

It's on display at Kruse auctions in Auburn, IN. I'll guess they know their stuff. ;)

They need a new plate. This is a '52:

Those look frumpy compared to the 55 and newer Chevys. And no V8! 6, Torque or Powerglide. YeeHaw!

When I was in high school and my sister was attending college (and commuting to and from home) my father bought himself an old beater to drive to work so that my sister could have the family car. It was a '51 Chevy with Powerglide. For those who are not familiar with the original Powerglide, in Drive it didn't shift. 115 hp straight six with a single-speed automatic. FWIW it did have a 'Low' position for those occasions when you wanted to, you know, actually accelerate, but you had to manually shift into and out of it. It was the first car I learned to drive. That transmission did provide me valuable performance expectations for driving the family car ('60 Falcon with Ford-O-Matic.)

This car was in it's time the smallest offered here for sale and was even Road Tested by Motor magazine...

  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,465
Maybe a mid 50s Vauxhall Velox beside it?
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,229
    Hi Fin

Yes, its a Vauxhall Velox (or its sister the Wyvern) and an Austin A30 in the distance.

The slightly smaller car is a Brutsch Mopetta which was marketed here in 1957/8 in the wake of the Suez oil crisis when we last had petrol rationing but despite not needing a reverse gear as there was handle to turn it round it never caught on.. It had a 50cc moped engine

I have seen one at a car show and they look like a fairground ride that has escaped...

That is an apt description! That's just a bumper car with the rubber removed. LOL

The driver's attire suits the car - his MG-TC must be in the shop.

Like a lot of Euro cars of the 50-s it shows a lot of influence from Detroit styling (wide windshield two-tone
    paint).

Porsche 356A bringing up the rear in left lane. Nearby in middle lane is a 1959 Mercury and to it's right a '59 Buick.

What's the convertible with the exposed spare, second row from right? Thought it might be a Metropolitan, but tail lights and top are wrong (and it looks too big).

The 59 Buick looks huge next to the others. Of the GM siblings, what automatic in 59 would you prefer, Dynaflow, Powerglide, or Hydramatic?

There' a white convertible with the top down in the 2nd lane from the left not quite parallel with the back of the commuter train.
    I think it's a 58 Cadillac.

Car on the shoulder at right 48-49 Cadillac. Kaiser between it and a 58 Impala
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,125
Could be the '54 Hudson. Seems too blocky to be a T-Bird.

  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,465
I agree it might not be a T-Bird, proportions don't look right, not sure if it is distortion in the pic or another car like the Hudson.
  • tmarttmart Member Posts: 2,402

I can kinda see a Tbird resemblance BUT the taillights appear square not round! At some point the Falcon had square taillights. Granted I’ve never seen one with a Conti kit though.

Anyone see anything later than 1959? I don't see any, but if it was taken that year, a lot of people were driving new cars.

Came across this picture today of Custer, SD from what appears to be the late 1960s. I had never heard of that community before. This one expands quite well.

"6 window" Chrysler Newport, next to the Torino. Oldie in the middle is probably a just-prewar or just-postwar Chevy.

Chevys- Gold 1962 on left next to a white over blue '60. Both are low end (Biscayne or 110/210/)
