When I was in high school and my sister was attending college (and commuting to and from home) my father bought himself an old beater to drive to work so that my sister could have the family car. It was a '51 Chevy with Powerglide. For those who are not familiar with the original Powerglide, in Drive it didn't shift. 115 hp straight six with a single-speed automatic. FWIW it did have a 'Low' position for those occasions when you wanted to, you know, actually accelerate, but you had to manually shift into and out of it. It was the first car I learned to drive. That transmission did provide me valuable performance expectations for driving the family car ('60 Falcon with Ford-O-Matic.)

Yes, its a Vauxhall Velox (or its sister the Wyvern) and an Austin A30 in the distance.
The slightly smaller car is a Brutsch Mopetta which was marketed here in 1957/8 in the wake of the Suez oil crisis when we last had petrol rationing but despite not needing a reverse gear as there was handle to turn it round it never caught on.. It had a 50cc moped engine
I have seen one at a car show and they look like a fairground ride that has escaped...
What's the convertible with the exposed spare, second row from right? Thought it might be a Metropolitan, but tail lights and top are wrong (and it looks too big).
There' a white convertible with the top down in the 2nd lane from the left not quite parallel with the back of the commuter train. I think it's a 58 Cadillac.

I can kinda see a Tbird resemblance BUT the taillights appear square not round! At some point the Falcon had square taillights. Granted I’ve never seen one with a Conti kit though.
Came across this picture today of Custer, SD from what appears to be the late 1960s. I had never heard of that community before. This one expands quite well.

My Taurus had completely different wheels than any of those.
I had these:
In 95 they changed the finish and put them on the SE model

Are you saying the normies don't discuss minuscule details of 30 year old family sedans?
I can get going about Ford Tempo details, little differences in MBs as the 80s progressed etc
I’m like that with the Panthers. Woodgrain pattern differences, climate fonts, etc.
It’s in our blood!

The SHO, BTW was a great engine in search of a good car.

Where is the front plate? Don’t see it on my screen!
It's on display at Kruse auctions in Auburn, IN. I'll guess they know their stuff.

Those look frumpy compared to the 55 and newer Chevys. And no V8! 6, Torque or Powerglide. YeeHaw!

Like a lot of Euro cars of the 50-s it shows a lot of influence from Detroit styling (wide windshield two-tone
