Vancouver BC in maybe the mid 60s, let's make it challenging - you get a partial car or look through a fence, zooms well:

At one point BMW hinted that the Touring would be offered her in 2002 trim- along with the possibility of a five speed manual option for the 2002. Still, more than a few have made it over here. One odd thing about it is that the windshield is about an inch taller than that of a conventional '02.

Also in the pic, a Mercury Comet S-22 (the 3 taillights per side model), a Valiant and a '63 Chevy.

I think the car in the foreground is an earlier 60s Lancer or Valiant.

This is from a real estate listing - 2nd gen Lexus SC perhaps?

House is a couple blocks from me - a pleasant well maintained place listed for 3.6x its 2001 price, pretty typical.

    @fintail,
That's a heck of a good guess. The wheels look to be the correct style.
I never would have known where to start on that one.

Anyone know what this is? It was huge. I couldn't get a better angle to take a pic.

They must have a BIG garage for their militaria collection!

A nice lineup at Vancouver (BC) General Hospital, perhaps around 1960, zooms fine:

I've got to grab that white Jag because it's a Mark I, which is rarer than the Mark II; at least below the border.

Good eye on that Jag. The car next to it looks like a '59-ish Dodge. Blue car is maybe a Vauxhall sold in CDN
as a Pontiac. Ponton Mercedes on far right.

The blue car is an Envoy, a Canadian market Vauxhall Victor.

There are some cars in the background that should be identifiable too.

    @fintail,
There's a good clue in the front plate but I couldn't figure it out.

That's a Triumph Mayflower circa 1951-54 (here at least)
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,229
The Mayflower looked old even when it was launched.

That probably also applied to it's namesake when it turned up at Plymouth Rock

The car behind the Riv appears to be a Toyota Publica, which I don't think was ever sold in the USDM.

Kerrisdale, Vancouver BC, probably not before around 1967, zooms fine

Maybe a Corona behind the odd blue sedan?

'57-ish Pontiac on left. CDN Pontiacs used Chevy running gear and frames and had different model
names. White 70-ish Chevy behind it.

That’s a ‘58 Pontiac and a ‘67 Chevy. I’m confused by the Poncho as it looks like a Strato Chief except that it seems to have 4 stars on the fender scallop. I thought they were only on higher line models.

It's a bit confusing. Some Strato Chiefs did have 4 stars and some had 3, at least in '58.

In Kerrisdale, I think the car behind the blue sedan may be a Renault R10. Blue car is an Austin A95 Westminster from around 1960. Not sure about the car in the foreground, but the way the wipers park may be a clue.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,419
A very cool lifelike painting of a Greek restaurant in Vancouver with period cars, zooms well:

  • xwesxxwesx Member Posts: 17,688
Probably off, but I'm going to say a Honda CRX on the right and Plymouth Horizon in the middle. The one on the left is looking very familiar, but a name isn't coming to mind at the moment.

Nice Mercedes in the center. Must be brand new.

in the parking lot, next to a 68ish Nova, what looks to be an Opel Kadette.

MB is a W108, almost certainly a 250S or SE. From that brief period where MB badged most of its automatic cars.
  • sdasda Member Posts: 7,581
Automatic badging was common on cars made on other side of the pond. Dad’s 74 Ford Cortina EXE, 75 Renault 16 TL and 76 30 TS, mom’s 71 Audi 100 LS, all had ‘Automatic’ badges on the trunk lid. Funny, though, europeans pretty much frowned on a car that was automatic, so why badge a car to out you?

Perhaps it’s the equivalent of the “student driver” stickers showing up in cars today.

I think it was a prestige thing - the automatic was usually an expensive option, and those who'd be into it might not be luddite types who only want a manual. Show it off.

On Puget Sound in the mid 60s, apparently a promo pic, I believe this was a privately operated ferry - some unusual sights, zooms well:
