corvair convertible. And no clue what the oldie with red wheels is, but scary to think that at the time it was only 30-40 YO max, so equivalent today to parking next to an 85 or 95 Camry which would look perfectly normal and modern

I see a 63 Impala on the far left, a couple of rows up from the Mustang and a 62 Ford Ranch Wagon a few more rows up to the right of the red Bug.

I’m surprised how old those cars are, compared to the ‘65 Mustang.

They were all new cars when they got on the bus..

Yes, I was going to post how it isn't often you see a Mustang and a '30s (Ford?) Victoria coupe in the same pic.

I wonder if being in California adds to many of the cars being 6-10 years old when the pic was taken - at a time when many a 10 year old car was on the way to the scrapyard. Also for California several foreign cars in the mix, I see a couple of Hillmans among the usual suspects. Also a shoebox Ford woodie kind of center slight right.

The old timer in front appears to be a larger slightly fancier car of the era with a sidemount etc, perhaps a Buick or even a Stude. The Victoria style was popular within a few years each way of 1930.

Since not mentioned yet, a 60 Ford wagon parked a row closer than the red Bug, and another one in the row of cars past the leftmost yellow bus, to the right.

Innocenti 950 Spider, essentially an Austin-Healey Sprite rebodied by Innocenti.

Almost impossible to tell, without specific expertise, but it's roughly 1930 and a more substantial sized car than a Ford or Chevy etc, a middle/upper middle market car. I''ll wager a middle to senior Buick or something in that price segment.

Thanks for ignoring my repeated and honest request around 1970s kit cars, allegedly by U.S. Manta Cars.
Either the correct answer is too trivial, or your knowledge resp. willingness to help is too poor.
I will try my luck elsewhere.
    Bye.

When this group doesn’t respond it just means we don’t know. That means it’s extremely rare, maybe only a handful (or one) made.

  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
Yeah no clue on the kit car, if we don't have the slightest guess, we don't respond.

I see some kit car specific groups out there, especially on facebook where a lot of car enthusiast groups ended up (one of the few reasons I have an account in Zuck's fiefdom), maybe search for some there?

Great pix of Piccadilly. Reminds me of my Dinky Toys. Intersting to see a couple of Yank Tanks there. There's as '55-ish Caddy on the right. The white Jaguar could be a Daimler. Bodywork was identical to the Mk.II but under the hood was the same little (2.5L) V8 used in the Daimler SP-250 sports.

Anyone know what that white convertible on the left is?

I'm thinking the light colored sedan on the left side of the 59 Chevy is a Rover.

Convertible a (British) Ford perhaps, Zodiac/Zephyr etc, reminds me of a period Matchbox car. A comment where I found the pic stated the Caddy is likely a US embassy car due to the emblem on the roof. I was thinking maybe the Chevy was following, but there was a market for US cars there too, I have some period "Autocar" magazines with plenty of Yanks in the classifieds. The kind of car that might sell to a successful nightclub owner or similar, maybe.

I agree to the light colored car to the left (oncoming) of the Chevy is a Rover, with a Ford Anglia van between them.

It has to be at least 65 (or possibly late 64), because that's a 65 Mercury Comet nearest the camera.

@ autonarr - I live in but London and have been trying to find something in respect of your query but it is not really my strong suit - sorry. - if I find something I'll come back to you.

@fintail - Piccadilly Circus looks bit different now as it is no longer a roundabout.

@texases - the traffic was slow enough then to walk across- mainly due to the tourists really and they tidied it up to speed it up but there is actually a pedestrian subway below the statue (Eros) which links into the Underground station so you can cross below the traffic.

For New years eve since the 1960s they have boarded over Eros - he is actually made of Aluminium and Bronze so a bit vulnerable and the new year celebrations are nowadays are centred on the larger fountains inTrafalgar Square.

He's not even really called Eros - it is supposed to be Anteros but that was too posh for cockneys .

The whole thing is called the Shaftesbury Memorial Fountain in memory of a victorian politician .

And as anyone will tell you the arrow in Eros' s Bow points towards Shaftesbury Avenue - so it means the arrow will be buried there !

Interesting, it's no longer a traffic circle:

  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,229
At first I thought a Bentley because of the ridge down the middle of the bonnet which is not as sharp as a Rolls

Now I've Blown it up I can't see any radiator motif so no winged lady or winged "B"- and Radiator is not fluted.

IMO certainly a prewar car for the old timer. I wonder if there's any distortion that masks the radiator shell, I was thinking Rolls-Royce too. Definitely a British or at least British-bodied car.

Squadra Volante translates to Flying Squad for what it's worth.

Yeah. The Alfasud was a smaller cheapo car.

Those were considered quite the sports car-like sedan at the time despite the boxy, upright styling.

That's right Squadra Volante is Italian for Flying Squad. I assume they mostly pursued speeders. The car is a ca. 1966 Alfa Giulia Super. IMO it's about the coolest looking police cruiser ever.

I never drive in central London now - it is always quicker by underground or bus and we also have another network of the London Overground which is useful for commuting and reaching out suburbs.

I was in a nice pub around the corner from Lambeth North tube about two weeks back

    Good lunch too.

With Lambeth North, Waterloo, and a nearby bus stop our VRBO's location was very convenient for getting to the sights. Great vacation.
