Can anyone ID this lucky (unlucky) car? I'd like to know the rest of the story about how it got there...

Looks like a MB 124 wagon (E class) wearing BMW wheel covers.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,486
One of those GMC Envoys, right?

Oh yeah, the Lark Wagonaire. Innovation, 40 years later.
  • imidazol97imidazol97 Member Posts: 27,689
Both discontinued the removable roof because of leaks, usw.

    #7937 is a Studebaker Wagonaire ca. 1964.

Studebaker Wagonaire is right and it's 1963.

Growl... that would be the most recent generation of Nissan Silvia, also known as the Nissan 200SX in some markets.

Only six cylinders, but rear-wheel-drive and not too heavy, IIRC. This generation is much more gorgeous than the one preceding it (which the US got as the 240SX, I believe)

This car was one of my dream cars growing up so it is none other than a Ferrari F-355 ;)

    Rocky

P.S. This car along with 512TR is my favoritest Ferrari's
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,486
    Hehehe....it's actually a Ferrari 348...ca. 1989
  • bumpybumpy Member Posts: 4,425
#7923 is an '88 Opel Manta dressed up to resemble the Group A racers of that time. #7925 is an S15 Silvia. Silvias were always 4-cylinder, except for the US-market '87-88 200SX SE which had the VG30E V6.
  • rockyleerockylee Member Posts: 14,017
Yeah thats right, I was close though. I like the 355 a bit better.

    Rocky
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,486
355 was a better car too, IIRC 348 wasn't a quality item, it used lots of Fiat bits.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Man, where was I? I knew that one, my buddy Ed (lark6 here on Edmunds) would kill me if I missed that one.

did not pace the 1991 Indy 500.

Dodge Stealth based on the Mitsubishi 3000 platform. People were up in arms about a Japanese car pacing the "Great American Race" so they used a prototype Dodge Viper instead.
  • rockyleerockylee Member Posts: 14,017
Thanx bumpy....If I was rich enough I'd have a lime green or black one. Like a 94-96 model Twin Turbo of course. ;)

  • bumpybumpy Member Posts: 4,425
They're not all that expensive now. The best one in the world shouldn't be more than $10,000. If you're aspiring to Cadillacs and overpriced trucks, it's well within your reach. It's not a MkIV Supra TT, after all.
  • rockyleerockylee Member Posts: 14,017
Well to get one in mint' with low miles will run you $15-18K. I almost bought a black 95' TT for $18K but was a hour-half late. It had like 17K miles on it

I'm sure I'll be way off but I'll guess anyways a Bugatti Vector ? :confuse:

  • bumpybumpy Member Posts: 4,425
    "Bugatti Vector"? Jeez, Rocky.

Our car is close to a Vector W8, but the front clip is wrong. It's certainly not a Bugatti Veyron.
  • rockyleerockylee Member Posts: 14,017
Hey it was a honest guess. The rear 3/4 view made my gut guess that way ?

I'd like to know what it is though.... :)

GM extending a big middle finger to the United States.

Dangit, there must be a problem with my browser. I can't get GM's middle finger to come up! :confuse:
  • rockyleerockylee Member Posts: 14,017
I saw this the other day it is Chinese car made by GM, right ? Buick Royaum ? :)

Yeah where is that middle finger at ? :P

  • bumpybumpy Member Posts: 4,425
is GM offering a big spiffy RWD Buick like that in China while we get stuck with the dumpy FWD Lucerne as Buick's flagbarge.
  • andre1969andre1969 Member Posts: 26,038
but I'm guessing that this big, spiffy Buick looks more like this one. Not so much like this one? :)
  • bumpybumpy Member Posts: 4,425
    but I guess not.

  • andre1969andre1969 Member Posts: 26,038
It's a higher trim level of the Grand Prix, like maybe a GT or GTP? I'd guess a 1988-90? I know the SE model didn't have the extra lights mounted inboard of the headlights.
  • rockyleerockylee Member Posts: 14,017
That's my guess also. My MOM had a Emerald Green 1993 GP 2-door coupe special edition with the little lights at the front. I drove it quite often after I graduated H.S.

I think it had either a 3.1 or 3.4 in it ? It was pretty sporty. They did make a turbocharged one in the early 90's if my memory serves me correct. Moms had HUD, just like my 92' Bonneville SSEi

    Rocky

    P.S. Dream-car, not in those days....I was a Cam-Am fan. :P
  • andre1969andre1969 Member Posts: 26,038
Wait, I just realized something...back then, wasn't the SE a higher level of Grand Prix than it is today? Around 1988-90 they might have had a hierarchy like base, LE, and SE.

I think the GT and GTP designations came out later.
  • bumpybumpy Member Posts: 4,425
#7970 is a 1990 Turbo Grand Prix (no trim line letters). The turbo was dropped for 1991 and the trim spec became SLE.

    image
Note the hood louvers and the ridiculous number of buttons on the steering wheel. Too bad GM didn't combine the turbo with the AWD from the Pontiac 6000. :(
  • subearusubearu Member Posts: 3,613
dowh, I was too late in seeing this thread, I knew it was a turbo! oh well.

btw, I had an '89 GP, no trim level back then on the base model. And it had the inboard 'fog' lamps as well.

    What if a Mustang and a 3rd-gen RX-7 had a baby?

  • gsemikegsemike Member Posts: 2,420
Was Pontiac ahead of their time in offering a steering wheel mounted blackberry?
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
It is indeed the Chinese Market Buick Royaum, essentially a rebadged Holden Caprice/Statesman. It's not clear to me if Holden makes them in Oz and exports them to the PRC or GM
makes them in China alongside other Buick models.

The General now sells more Buick badged vehicles in China than in the USA according to the Autoextremist.

ROFL at that steering wheel, hilarious
  • imidazol97imidazol97 Member Posts: 27,689
Between the steering wheel buttons and the buttons on the dash, some on each side of the cluster sun shield, it really looks dated, now. Although the last Civic dash I looked at was a close 2nd.

I thought the little Chrysler (Hint) Pentastar on the front (very hard to see though, would have given it away. But if not I will give you all a big hint, it is a Dodge from 1986.

I though some would have put the Honda Dualnote / Acura DN-X from 2003, but the Veyron was a good guess.

That wheel is awful. GM should offer a public apology for that travesty.

The GM10s were sort of a bust, they came out with 3 big coupes at a time when everyone was buying sedans. Then the sedans they came out with didn't look quite right, because there weren't meant to be 4 doors from the get-go.

so Odie what is your mystery machine? I'm pretty sure I've seen it somewhere in the duPont Registry in the mid 90s, just can't pinpoint it.
