think the setting for Animal House was supposed to be Faber College ("Knowledge is Good") in 1962... So... all of the cars should technically be '62 models or earlier..

If that's so, my guess was right about the Conti being a '61 or '62 model. To be fair to Fintail, the '63 to '65 cars were the same from the side, changes were in the grillework.

The Lincoln in Animal House was a '64. It's easy to identify when you see rear shots of the car in the movie. It's odd as the movie was set in 1962. If we assume it was fall of 1962, the newest the car could be is a 1963 model. Flounder's brother must've been a real big shot at Ford to get a new 1964 Lincoln in fall of 1962.

I'm not sure, but the ambulance looks like it might be a 1951-54 Packard.

    Is that an older Volvo?

When I was a kid my neighbor has a car that looked like that, so that's why I'm guessing Volvo.

Very good, Imidazol97! According to the website I pulled that pic from, it was a 1951 Plymouth Cranbrook. AFAIK, there's very little to distinguish the Plymouths, stylewise, from 1949-52, although I'm sure there are enthusiasts that could.
  • imidazol97imidazol97 Member Posts: 27,687
The "Plymouth" was because of those unique taillights with the button reflector at the top (which used to popular addons into taillights) but the year I tried to match up by the shape of the rear window and side window. People I used to mow grass for had a "Cranberry" in their garage. I recall it often wouldn't start because Chrysler products were susceptible to humidity getting into the distributor I suppose and wouldn't start.

I love seeing these old cars although the foreign ones posted remind me I didn't pay any attention to those.

The actor in front of the busted Plymouth is of course James Widdoes who played Delta's chapter President Robert Hoover. :P

Yup, I didn't think anyone would bet that one unless you came along.

The Panhard 24 like so many cars of that era borrows heavily from the Chevy Corvair yet mages to look fairly modern.

Pf means Pinafarina? I can see that, because the car resembles a BMW 507..

Pininfarina had nothing to do with the beautiful 507 which was designed by Albrecht Goertz, who also styled the original Datsun 240Z.

Is it a '61 Ferrari 250 GT California? Reminds me of the red one that took a beating in the movie Ferris Bueller. Of course that was a kit if I recall.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
    '61 Ferrari 250 GT California?

Actually you're close, it's the Spider California's immediate successor, the '65 275GTS (not to be confused with the 275 GTB/4 NART Spider).

PF recapitulated the 275 GTS' design a year later when the Fiat 125 Sports Spider was introduced.

Saturn Astra. Hopefully GM will leave it as a straight rebadge of the Opel original and resist the temptation to dumb it down for the US market, and bring over the panorama windshield while they're at it.

It's bugging me because the link says it's a BMW.. Is it a 700?

    Thanks
  • andre1969andre1969 Member Posts: 26,038
I don't think it's a BMW, but I've seen pics of them before. I think it's some kind of Eastern European make that tried to ape the 1957 Ford Thunderbird. I want to say it's a DAF? I think it's some 3-letter name. I think they were made around 1960-62.
  • bumpybumpy Member Posts: 4,425
No one wanted to tag the electric Nissan Hypermini, probably because it's exceptionally obscure. Nissan built just over 200 of them circa 2000.

I'd guess it's a 1958 Ford medium duty truck. F600 or something like that?
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,477
I'm pretty sure that's an Auto Union 1000SP ca. 1960

    I think you're right Fintail:

Looks like an upmodel Yaris for Europe. That one probably has the center console as standard.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Actually I think that's the Corolla, which is now named Auris or something like that? It's slightly bigger than the Yaris, the C-pillar is very different.

I'm not sure, but I think it's actually a Mercury. The smaller trucks had different hoods, but the only difference on the bigger ones seems to be the badging.
  • bumpybumpy Member Posts: 4,425
Yep, the Yaris is a B-segment car.

Goodness I hope that was tongue-in-cheek. I really do.

Honestly, that's a Hitler and the Easter Bunny comparison. The Astra is gorgeous and the Compass is the automotive equivalent of me throwing a bucket of nails and glue on a bit of chipboard.
