    The original M3?
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,483
First M5, or is it some Alpina variant?

    Pic is in England certainly.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,163
    I'm going with an Alpina..

It could be an M5, but if it is, it's a Euro model.. The '88 M5 in the US had the diving board bumpers...

You could get E36 M3s as a sedan model for one or two years.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Yep, it's the first M5, based on the E28 chassis (ca. '88-'89). I once got a ride in one, what an amazing car, it made the SHO I owned at the time seem pokey!

Even Magnette might not know this one, although he can probably get the red car in the background.

It has some of that dumpy early 50s German flair...

Is the red car a Glas 1300/GT?
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
I 'spect the red car is a (BMW)Glas GT it has the same greenhouse.
You are on the right track, the white car is German, ca. 1952.

Veritas ( I think), and as it is a cabriolet and you advise it is quite late (1952) I would assume it is one of the ones made at the Nurnburgring, and sometimes called the Veritas - Nurnburgring as a result. The red car would be a Glas....
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,163
That's true... I think the E36 M3 sedan was '97-'98.. The original E30 and the E46 have only been available as coupes..

The original M5 was only available in the USA for one year.. 1988.. Came in any color you wanted, as long as it was black...

The new body style came out in 1989..

Re the E28 M5 -the D prefix on the registration would indicate it was issued in the twelve months commencing August 1986. M5 was sold from late 1984, in Germany, but probably not here until a year or so later...

You could hold a new years eve ball under the bonnet/hood of a car like that Citation - try changing the fan belt on a classic Mini.....
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Yesiree, that is a 1952 Veritas Nurburgring. Veritas made mostly race cars.

    Nice call Magnette.

Ford Taunus (not Taurus- Taunus, like the hills in Germany) wagon, late 70s.

Also, Ford Cortina wore the same body, IIRC

    You're on the ball Finnie, it's a 1980 Taunus L Break.

Ah, you've never experienced the misfortune of lifting the hood of a Citation. For all that space, the engine compartment is a miscegnation of staggering proportions- everything placed so that you have to just about disassemble the car to do anything. The Mini is easier to work on.
  • bumpybumpy Member Posts: 4,425
    Fargo, aka Candian Dodge clone.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Good eye Bumpy, it's a '53 Fargo. I have no idea why so many brands had separate nameplates in Canada during the 50s and 60s.

Fargo doersn't even sound Canadian. :confuse:

    Plymouth Fury?

Right brand, wrong model, that's an '83 Plymouth Caravelle (remember them?) :P .

Wasn't the Caravelle one of those LWB K-car spinoffs (like the Dodge 600)?
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
I think the '83 Caravelle pictured came off the same RWD platform as the Dodge Diplomat, a later one was on the LWB K-car chassis.
    This is an '85>

ah yeah that's what I am thinking of. What a fine car.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,483
Nice...earlier W111 cabrio, probably a 220SE from the early 60s. Mirror is on the door, so maybe 1963-64.

Car behind it is either a W108/109 or a W114/115 - I am on a lower res display at the moment and can't make out many details.

Ain't that sweet, I'm particularly fond of those ivory hues they used on German cars of that era.

Andy's that's a Daimler, but I always forget what they called those little things.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Hey Kev, long time no hear. Yep, it's a Daimler SP-250, a little Brit sportster with as 2.5 V8. It was the car all of us Sports Car Guys wanted in the early 60s, because of it's V8 power, but none of us but bought because it was so ugly.

It's other claim to fame was that it was discontinued after
Jaguar bought Daimler. Jag's beancounters figured it cost more to make than the XK-E!

    2001 BMW 330ci/E46, 2008 BMW 335i conv/E93

  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,233
What was really good was that they went on to put the 2.5 V8 into the Jag Mk II and created the Daimler 2-1/2 litre which was a smoother car than the Jag 2.4, nearly the same performance as the 3.4, and had better interior trim, being a Daimler...
    A seriously underated car

  • seminole_kevseminole_kev Member Posts: 1,696
Yeah, haven't really been around the past year. New job and other stuff.

Did pick up a 2007 VW GTI (5-door model with DSG) a few days ago, which brought me back to the board for a bit. Hope things have been well for ya.

Magnette - I'm still more partial to the 3.4L Mark II though ;-)
