That looks like a 1954 senior Packard. Not sure if it's a Patrician or a Four Hundred. Definately not a Clipper
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,672
It's a '54 Packard all right, the caption labels it an "Executive Sedan", I wouldn't know if that's just a descriptive or the factory nomenclature for a stretch limo.

Normally I don't like wire wheels on a big sedan but they look sharp on that car (most likely Kelsey-Hayes wires).

Late 70's... now, I'm going to say Opel Rekord, because IIRC the Opel Commodore (six-cylinder version) had a different, bigger front to make room for the engine.

    I'm not entirely sure though.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,672
    Nope it's a '77 Commodore GS.

but it's actually a shorty 1980s Toyota Land Cruiser. I forget what the platform code was for that generation, FJ60?

Ah yes the Duster. I had a (IRC a '76 Duster). It was one of the special edition Duster of that year. It was nicknamed the "convertriple". It had a sunroof and fold down rear seat and one other thing I can't remember.
  • bumpybumpy Member Posts: 4,425
Close enough. It's actually a 2JZ-GTE from the legendary MkIV Supra. 1JZ had a flat spark plug cover:

Is that a Buick 215 cid V-8? They were originally used in the early 1960s Buick Special. You can tell it's a Buick engine by the placement of the distributor. They used this engine in Rovers later on.
  • bumpybumpy Member Posts: 4,425
Buick 215 it is. Rover bought the design from GM around 1966 and went on to use it up until a year or three ago, so B_R gets to see it every day.

It might be amusing to list all the vehicles to have utilized
    the Buick Rover Aluminum V8:

Here are the ones I recall off the top of my head:

Range Rover SI, II & III
    Morgan Plus 8
    Rover 3500
    Rover 3500SD
Land Rover Discovery (see LR Gen I)

I know there were numerous others (TVR, Marcos)?), I just can't think of them now.

Yup I got a funny story about that engine from last week actually.

Guy calls service up and tells them his check engine light and oil light have popped on. He checked the oil saw that it was low and topped off. He said he could also see that there was an oil leak coming from some where but he could not really see where.

He could see oil covering the front diff and axle.

They set up an appointment for a couple of days later to check out the leak. When he dropped of the car he said he had to put another couple of quarts of oil in the motor so it is a BAD leak.

One of the techs checks the oil in it to see how low it is because he doesn't want to drive it in if it is real low. The oil is in the safe range so he starts it up and man is it knocking bad but it is only about 50 feet to his bay and how much more can it possibly hurt the engine right????

He pulls it in and gets it up on the lift and what do you see...

The number one driver's side rod hanging out of a fist sized hole of the oil pan.

The engine must have thrown a rod days ago and been running around on 7 cylinders ever since. The entire underside of the truck is covered in oil but there is still a a couple of quarts of oil in the bottom of the sump for the engine to pick up.

    Tough little engine there.

Land Rover Range Rover out to 2002
Defender in the US from 1993-1995 and 1997
Not sure when it was used in the rest of the world.

Thats all I can think of plus lots of TVRs and the Bowler Wildcat

I may have missed where it was mentioned, but didn't the MGB-GT V8 also use the Rover-Buick engine as well?
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,672

That's right Kev, IIRC the V8 powered MG was later called the MG-RV8 (1992-98).

Some sort of Ford with an intercooler turbo? =)
It's probably Austrailian and I've never been there. It looks kind of handsome in an upright Mitsubishi Montero sort of way.
  • bumpybumpy Member Posts: 4,425
Ford Territory, based on the Australian Ford Falcon. This one presumably gets the 350ish-hp 4-liter turbo I6 from the Falcon XRT6. If there is any justice in the world, the successor to this will also be the next Explorer.

There are all sorts of wacky trim names and special editions of JDM cars.

Toyota Chaser maybe? (though the back end looks more early-90s Nissan)
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,507
Yeah, looks it could be a Chaser...I was thinking a Soarer, but the lights are wrong.

Strange that it has a rear wiper...then again, for JDM I suspect it is normal.

At least the big 2.5 haven't stooped that low in making a sporty edition!

Looks like some kind of a version of an Austin Morris, if I'm correct.

It was my parent's first car except they had a 2 door station wagon.

Oh yes, just about everything bigger than a breadbox has a rear wiper in Japan. We would have seen it more over here, but the liddy light went right where the wiper motor would have been. I used to see a Datsun/Nissan 200SX hatchback with a rear wiper.
  • derrado1derrado1 Member Posts: 194
No, no, no... Lol good guess but the Territory is actually a handsome, modern-looking crossover. Not this piece of junk, which I would presume is JDM.

As for the EXCITING (!) car, that would be a Toyota Carina ED? IIRC, it was called a "four-door Celica". JDM only, of course.

    Bumpy, here's a Territory

Very handsome, well-proportioned car. They're a dime a dozen here but I still can't get over how... nice... they look. Very practical, too. Wow, here I am, gushing over a Ford and I've always said I was a GM man...

That's the Italian version of the Austin/Morris Maxi (late 60s-early 70s), the Innocenti 1300 IM3. They were manufactured under license by Innocenti SPa, then owned IIRC by Alejandro DeTomaso.

Innocenti also built versions of the Mini and Sprite.

Looks like a ZAZ 968, aka Zaporozec. A small rear engine Russian car iirc. I think it was based on the NSU Prinz.

When I was little I rode in one with my parent's friends.

You're really hot today Boomchek. It's a Zaprohets ZAZ 966
    CA. 1968.

I imagine you're right about it being NSU-derived. It looks very much like a Prinz and it was also rear-engined. They made this model in the USSR from 1968 to 1990.
