Ford F100 ca. 1965, hubcaps from a later model I believe
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,671
The F100 is a '64, I dunno about the hub caps, perhaps they're optional extra "Full Wheel Covers".

I had a set of hubcaps like that for my Galaxie...they were originally from a mid 70s F-series, the PO of the car liked the smooth look more than the ribbed originals. I think that old pickup would have caps similar to a period car, they were busier.

Yup, it strikes me as pretty good-looking compared to a Tempo...or most Russian cars. I see a little Audi 90 too, around the C Pillar.

Andy - I know. I've owned a 1960 Triumph TR3A, a 1964 TR4, and a 1967 (Titled as a 1968) GT6 - all new at the time. As one who owned and lived with these cars for over a decade, I can't believe what they're selling for today. The "Big TRs" as they were called, were fun, but crude. At least the later TR250, TR5 (in Europe), and the TR6 brought a nice smooth Inline 6 from the Triumph Vitesse sedan. The TR4's 4-cylinder was derived from a Ferguson-Ford tractor - it was a wet-sleeve engine, very torquey, but crude even compared to other engines at the time. Actually, I preferred the Spit GT6 over either the TR3A or the TR4 - from my own personal experience in ownership.

Armstrong-Siddeley Hurricane, 1946/9. A-S named this range after aircraft their factory had produced during the war, so you got Lancaster, Hurricane, Typhoon and Whitley.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,671
That's right, the car with the P-A type headlights is a '46 Armstrong Siddely Hurricane. Hurricanes and Typhoons were made by Hawker, Lancasters by Avro, did they become part of Armstrong Siddely (makers of the Whitley)?

Actually they're full disc covers from a 1971-72 Ford Galaxie/LTD. They were later used on trucks with a diffent center. Ford tended to use hubcaps from older car models later on their trucks. I remember seeing 1970s Broncos using hubcaps from the 1966 Ford Galaxie/LTD.

This goes back to when NASCAR was about stock cars.

Extra points if you can ID the drivewr as well as make/model of the car>

61 Ford Starliner, which was a Galaxie sub-class
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,494
Did the truck caps have a full black center?
  • tmarttmart Member Posts: 2,402
Since Fintail correctly named the year and model, I'll go for the driver, Fred Lorenson.
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
Well, the centers on the 1971-72 Ford Galaxie/LTD were plastic - black background, with a gold elongated Ford crest embedded in clear plactic. The trucks used the same wheel disc, but the center was metal with an embossed Ford crest bisected by a line against a black background.

Oh, OK. I have seen a few variations. When I bought my Galaxie the PO had like 12 hubcaps for it, 8 of those 70s kind, and the stock set (one with a missing plastic center, so I never used them).

The 70s ones looked OK on the Galaxie though, at least in my 16 year old eyes.

1959 Buick, I dunno the models

I've seen names Invicta, LeSabre, Electra, but I sure don't know which is which.

I'm not sure what model this is:

The '59s were really versatile and durable. The vehicle offers full 11-passenger comfort.

It just so happens that I spotted a '61 Starliner HT at the Ford Racing Exhibit at the Barrett-Jackson preview this PM. It did indeed wear both Starliner and Galaxie badges.

This particular car looked bone stock right down to the column shifted A/T but someone had substituted a SOHC 427 for the original motor. :surprise:

IIRC the 427 didn't find it's way into production Fords until '64 or so and I don't think the SOHC version ever went into a production car, it was an experimental motor.
    Even GT-40 MkII's made do with push-rod big-blocks.

No takers on the psuedo-Facel? Here's a hint, like the Facel it's French and obviously heavily influenced by American styling trends (note wrap around front glass, fins and pillarless h/t).

It's the same make as the sedan with the flat windshield.

The white sedan in the background is a Peugeot 203...that smaller car can't be a Peugeot can it?
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,671
Yikes! My bad, Fin. The white sedan is indeed a Pug 203 (early-mid 5os). I had it confused with another top-selling French model of trhe era.

    Good call.

If it is French (looks Italian to me), maybe SIMCA...although I know very little of their model lineup.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,671
That's it, Kev it's a 1958 Simca Aronde Plein Ciel, the Grand Touring coupe based on the popular Simca Aronde sedan.

Perhaps someone who knows French could translate Plein Ciel for us (I think Ciel=Sky).

Plein = "full" in French, I think.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,671
"Full Sky" would be an odd appelation for a hardtop but they did make a convertible version.

those pushrod 427's were good enough to beat another f brand back in the 60's. i saw the winning big mark at the henry ford museum a few years ago. too bad the fibreglass was showing it's age.

I couldn't tell you what the trailer is, but the woody wagon looks like a 1949-50 DeSoto.
  • andre1969andre1969 Member Posts: 26,038
I think that DeSoto is a 1950. IIRC, the 1949 DeSoto had the grille "teeth" all the way across, while the 1950 had a metal part in the middle dividing the grille in two, kind of like having a body-colored chive stuck in its "teeth".

As for the trailer, I'm going out on a limb and guessing 1957 Airstream? The only reason I say that is because my next-door neighbor let her son store a trailer similar to that in her back yard for at least a decade. I just thought it was some junky little no-name brand, but as I watched it finally get dragged out of the mud with a pickup truck and a chain, he mentioned to me that it was a 1957 Airstream! I always thought Airstreams were a bit more exotic looking, or at least Twinkie-esque in shape, but maybe they started off with these other things?
