I've got a buddy in CA who bought one of those last year. I don't remember what year it was, but he got it with something like 120K on the odometer.

Nice car, but quite cramped inside.

Is that a Griffith? no, wait....a Cheetah!!

    Okay, I'm guessing......

Yeah, I've heard that the J30 is more of a 4-door two-seater! I thought they were decent looking at the time, but they had too much of a family resemblance to the much cheaper Altima. Infiniti had a bad habit of doing that back then, making cars that, while totally unrelated to cheaper Nissans, still looked too much like them. I remember that M-30 coupe/convertible, wasn't a bad looking car, but it looked kinda like a 2-door Maxima. Maybe it was the same platform?

And then the G-20 looked an awful lot like a Sentra to me. The only one that seemed really unique at the time was the Q45, which was kind of an interesting blend of Jaguar and 1992 Crown Vic! :P

The M30 was RWD.. built off the Skyline platform, I think.. as the J30 might have been (not sure)..

The G20 pretty much was a Sentra.... though a very nice one!

The original Q45 did resemble a Crown Vic, but was a really neat car.. They ruined the looks, when they added the grill to the later models...

Oh I agree, that original Q was a looker. And IIRC, it actually came out before the '82 Crown Vic, so they can't be accused of copying Ford, despite my comment about their similarity. Heck, maybe Ford copied Infiniti!

A lot of people complained about the '92 Crown Vic not having a grille, so they tacked one on for '93. I wonder if the Q- had the same problem...people not liking the grille-less design? Didn't seem to hurt the Taurus for the first 10 years of its life, though! :confuse:

    Good guess Mr.S. that's a Continuation Cheetah, they're still
    making replicas.

Late 70's Ford Wagon. My parents bought one from my grandparents when my brother was born. My father use to tell us kids it was the fastest car in Grand Rapids *Grin*

You're a little off on the era and those big Ford wagons had a specific model name.

That's a 1973-78 Ford Country Squire wagon. The 1971-72 models had different taillights and non-5 mph bumpers.
  • andre1969andre1969 Member Posts: 26,051
I can't tell the difference in the years from that angle. '73-78 all look the same to me. Now up front, they did change the appearance of the fascia, giving them a more pretentious look with a grille reminiscent of the T-bird, and a hidden headlight option.

Maybe it's a 75 to 77? That one is based on the LTD. Were they still calling them Country Squires? They were ridiculously popular on Long Island when they were new.

You nailed it Mike, it's a '76 LTD Country Squire. Yep the Yacht Clubs and Golf Clubs of the Guyland were paved with 'em. ;)

Kinda sad how that 4 door was pieced together, while the Ford Explorer just looked more like a ground-up design (even though it wasn't). Ford ate GM's lunch for a decade or so in the SUV segment.

The Infiniti M30 and J30 were the middle two generations of the Nissan Leopard, derived from the Cedric/Gloria of the time. The G20 was a rebadged Primera, basically a European-market replacement for the Bluebird/Stanza/Altima and a size larger than the Sentra. The Q45 was a renosed short-wheelbase Nissan President.

    Renault something in the teens...17?

Most Euro 70s cars were pretty crap just like those in NA.

    Close enough, it's a Renault 15TL ca. 1971-76.

1973 BMW 2002 Cabriolet. BMW contracted out the cabrio to coachbuilding firm BAUR from Stuttgart.

Not a full cabrio as the canvas roof is removable, a rollover bar (which acts as a C pillar) stays in place, which I'm guessing is for structural rigidity.

Second-gen MR2. Sporty, but also kinda porky compared to what came before and after it.
  • andre1969andre1969 Member Posts: 26,051
Little 2-seaters were never really my thing, but I think that's my favorite style of MR-2. The first one looked like a bad imitation of a Fiero (regardless of which one came first...I just thought the Fiero was a good looking car, even if it didn't have the quality or mechanicals to back it up) and the latest one looks like a bad imitation of a Porsche.

Is the 2nd-gen actually chunkier than the current model? Considering the current trend of slapping on more pounds onto the cars with a trowel, that would surprise me.
  • bumpybumpy Member Posts: 4,425
Yep, first-gen was around 2350 pounds, 2nd was larger and weighed around 2800 pounds, and 3rd went back to the size of the original and down to 2200 pounds.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,672
Actually there is no current model, at least not in the USA. The MR2 is no longer sold here.

The third gen Mister Two may have shed too much weight in that it was too bare bones and had the storage space of an Elise.

Matchbox made a E30 Baur, I had a red one and a blue one.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,672
I imagine Matchbox made a lot more of those than BMW ever did, I've never even seen one.

Saab 900S Sedan with Riken 5 star mags. Appears to be 1993 (last year of this gen) because of the black window trim.

That's essentially correct except that it's a 900i (UK model) presimably close to what was sold here as the 900S.

Wasn't '94 the last year for this style?

No 1994 saw the new redesigned 900 on our shores.

Wow time flies by, it was 13 years ago that a new Saab appeared. :surprise:

BMW 2002 without a dought. I had one while I was stationed at Wiesbaden Air Base in Germany. Great car but not super fast. About 180 to 200 Kilo top end. Handles like a slot car just don't hit anything while at speed.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
That's a Renault Clio sedan, still sold brand new in the Brazilian market. Saw plenty of them when I visited earlier this month.

You want funky, check out a Twingo.

    54 Dodge?

It can't be a '54 Dodge, Dodge went to a one piece windsheild in '53. The grillework doesn't look right for a '49-'52 Dodge.

I looks to me a bit like a '49-'51 Mercury.

have a one-piece windshield or a two-piece? I can't tell from that pic. I think it's too upright and stodgy looking to be a '49-51 Merc though. Makes me think more of a '49-52 Plymouth.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,517
    It's the Long Long Trailer

I think the mystery car looks more Mercury-ish than anything too
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,672
Andre, I can see the center post of the windshield, that's definitely a two-piece. It could be a Plymouth but I think the MoPar windshields of the day were taller, like this:

    1952 Plymouth Cranbrook>

    I'm sticking with Mercury.

What about the car ahead of it and the convertible pulling the trailer?

that Lucy and Ricky,er I mean Tacy and Mickey or whatever their names were in that movie, is a '53 Mercury. I forget how the trim levels for Mercury ran back then...something like Monterrey/Montclair/Park Lane? As for the car that you can only see the rear part of, it looks kinda '46-48 GM-ish to me, but I can't narrow it down beyond that.

And yeah, I can start to see a bit of '49-51 Mercury in that third car back. I guess the reason that I was thinking it wasn't a Merc is because most Mercs I see have been slammed a bit, and tend to pick up DeSoto teeth along the way! It's easy to forget what a stock Merc looked like.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,672
You've definitely nailed the '51 Ambassador but I think you're wrong on the '54 Dodge, take another look, even if you can't see the center post in the windshield you can see that the windshield isn't wide enough.

    It looks more like this>
