    I see a 1957 Chevrolet wagon (green with white trim) :P .

...can't make out the car in the foreground, though (the round taillight & the subtle fin suggest some late 50's Ford, though :confuse: )
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Yep that's a '62 Olds and I guess that could be a '57, or thereabouts, Chevy wagon.

From what I can see, I'd say the wagon is a 1957 Chevrolet 210 Townsman or something like that.
  • imidazol97imidazol97 Member Posts: 27,676
I didn't pay attention to the car in the driveway because it was dark on my LCD screen because of the angle.
    1957 BelAir Wagon
1956 Ford (1955 Ford maybe) by taillight.

    Ascari?

    Too many mid-engined "supercars" look similar.(IMHO :P )
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Nope, it's not an Ascari either, it's the new Keating SKR, a British-made, Chevy V8-powered sports car. Details here.

Peugeot 402 Decapotable ca. 1938 - makes the retractable hardtop fad look passe

And that 1938 Peugeot 402 is for sale for $295,000.

    Straightline
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,429
I thought it looked familiar...it's been on ebay a few times too.

It's a cool car and worth a nice chunk of change...I dunno about 300K though.
  • andre1969andre1969 Member Posts: 26,023
does the top on that Peugeot actually stow in one section? If so, that's really impressive for the era. Do they make any retractable hardtops nowadays with a one-piece top? All the ones that pop into my mind have a top that folds into sections, and looks kinda awkward in the up position.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
was that top powered, it seems unlikely back in'38. Must've been a real bear to put up manually. I love that word decapotable ("headless"?).

That is a great name for a car.

Can you imagine any current automaker calling their car the decapotable.

Yes please take a test drive in our fabulous Mercedes SL550 Decapotable.

Or try out the new Citroen Guillotine
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,429
I think it was "assisted" through some kind of counterbalance or something...from what I recall, the top can be retracted easily by one person.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,429
Yep, it went in one section, and I can't think of a retractable that does the same today. Trunks aren't long enough anymore.

Wrong decade (you're thinking of the original 924 with the VW-Audi engine), it's a 1987 Porsche 924S. IIRC the S was debuted around '86 or '87.

You are most likely right about them all but I can't tell if the Merc is a '52 or '53 and the Chebby could be either a '50, '51 or '52. It's was a lot easier to tel exact year after '55 or so.

That IS a nice looking dashboard.

Having owned a 1966 Spitfire for 5 years, I noticed the similarity straightaway.

However, it appears to be 1960's Triumph, but it's not a Spit/GT6, nor is it from a TR4/TR5/TR250/TR6, nor is it from a Stag.

Is this a Triumph Herald dash?? :confuse:
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
It does resemble a Spitfire dash but it wasn't from a Triumph. Think small ;)

  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
That's it, the dash is from a '67 Elan.

The Chevy is a 52. (Two piece windshield and thin chrome side piece over the rear wheel.)
The Mercury is a mix 52 and 53. It has the 52 side chrome not extending to the front door and the 53 trunk lid emblem.
  • imidazol97imidazol97 Member Posts: 27,676
I was wrong with '50. But every picture of a 52 Chev that has a thin metal strip on the rear fender also has it along the middle of the front door. This car has a bright piece along the rocker panel.

Since you note the Mercury has crossed features, maybe the Chev also is a mixture.

88 or 89 Prelude Si with 4-wheel steering (hence the fuzzy little chrome script on the B-pillar).

Nice car for the time, but I read once that the bodyshell on these was kinda flimsy.

You'd be hard pressed to find an unmolested version today (that hadn't been bought by a pimply-faced kid with a penchant for LOUD colors, big wings, booming radios, and no appreciation for good taste)

Triumph GT6 MKIII, probably my favorite version, with the sleeker front end and before the awful, huge rubber US bumpers were attached.

Great concept, but poor execution: lightweight, sleek coupe, lusty inline 6, but let down by typical British quality problems.

The Z4 & Z3 coupes come closest to these lately, but I'd bet GM could "coupify" the Solstice/Sky quickly & cheaply to attract non-poseur sportscar lovers. :D

I hate to correct you, but I believe it's a MkII and not a MkIII. The MkII had the little bubble taillights (which I kinda prefer) as opposed to the MkIII which had the arrow-shapped taillights mounted flat across the back.
  • karsickkarsick Member Posts: 312
 You got me on the GT6.
Apparently the styling updates for the MK2 GT6 mirror the updates to the MK3 Spitfire, and the MK3 updates for the GT6 match the MK4 facelift for the Spit.
Either way, I like that version of the GT6 (about a 1970)

I owned a 66 Mk2 Spit, and I forever swore off British cars since (unless a nice used McLaren F1 makes itself available for a good price :P )

With my TWO current British cars (one vintage, one daily driver), I can understand.
