Weird one. At first I thought it was a Citroen 15 Familiale, but the roofline's wrong and the headlights are in the wrong spot.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
I am pretty sure it is French though, it just has that look to it, early postwar. It's not a Citroen, yeah.
  • jlbljlbl Member Posts: 1,333
Name starting with a S? Hubcaps are typically French. There is a French brand just popping out and in my mind.

Salmson S4E sedan? 1938-1951. This one might be just postwar, because of the suicide front doors. Renault bought the factory in 1957.

Salmson S4E Cabriolet of the same epoque would get L4 cyl, 2300 cc, 85 hp at 3400 rpm, 1350kg, 135 km/h max. There is a nice pic of one of these in the Tampa Bay Automobile Museum at
    Salmson S4E Cabriolet

Pretty good guess my friend but, sorry, it isn't a Salmson.

Is this a Talbot Lago of some sort? Perhaps some version of the 2.7 litre Baby?
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Yes, it's a 1950 Talbot-Lago T26. There were a lot of different looking T26s, including a monoposto F1 car, as well as coupes, convertibles and sedans with coachwork by Falaschi et Figoni, Sauotchik etc.. The caption didn't give a coachbuilder for this one but it looks like a Chapron to me which would account for the resemblance to a Citroen.

Let's see, was Clint Eastwood in it? And did it feature a 1972 Ford Gran Torino?? I can't remember the name of the movie, but I think it just came out on DVD yesterday...

It would help if the pics were kept to a smaller size so they wouldn't skew the page.

Gran Torino? Get off my lawn.... :shades:

Right Stephen, the very popular Indian version of the Millecento as sold as the Premier Padmini.

Actually I think the blue car across the street is not a Maruti, but a Tata Indicar. We had the latter here for a while as the Rover Cityrover...
  • stephen987stephen987 Member Posts: 1,994
Maruti builds older Suzuki designs. The car I was thinking of is based on the Suzuki Alto and now goes by the name of "Maruti Alto."

But magnette may be correct in identifying it as a Tata instead.

This is a Skoda Favorit, cica 1990/95, I would think, and the plate is Hungarian..

Because of the white walls, I'll go with the 1948 Studebaker Commander.

Sorry, incomplete answer, the complete name is 1947 Studebaker Commander Regal Deluxe Land Cruiser Sedan :P

Looks like a 1967 Chrysler - has to be a New Yorker due to the fancy front fender inserts that look like cornering lights. What show was this from? The passenger seems to be shirtless...

Maybe a 1983 Ford Fairmont Futura??? And the red one behind looks like a 1961 Ford.

More like a 1978 Ford Fairmont Futura. The caption doesn't say whether it's a Futura but with that dorky roofline it'd have to be. ;)

The white over red Ford is certainly a '61and the formal roofline says it's a Galaxy.

    "Dorky" roofline?

The Futura was a comparatively upscale model, as demonstrated by the fact that it shared its roofline with a much more expensive model:

    image

Of course, the Futura still had the lousy non-adjustable seats as the rest of the Fairmont line, and offered the same range of powertrains: 88hp Pinto four, 85hp 3.3L six, or 131hp 5.0 V8. By 1980 there was also a turbo version of the Pinto engine, offered with automatic only.

Do you suppose there are any left on the road today? One of those with a newer (hotter) 5.0 and some Mustang suspension upgrades would be a nice sleeper, and it would certainly be a more modern drive than the '77 T-bird.

That's my problem with it Stephen, it's a pretend Thunderbird. Detroit had a bad habit in those days of slathering it's ordinary cars with visual cues connoting "luxury". The 1970s was the high water mark of these kitschy faux-luxury but ordinary cars with their padded roofs, upright hood ornaments opera windows and lights..YUK! :lemon:

FWIW that Fairmont is not too extreme compared to many.

I don't disagree at all. Still, compare it to the regular two-door Fairmont:

I think my biggest complaint about the 2-door sedan version of the Fairmont is that it's just too nondescript. It has a boxy, efficient-yet-boring look about it, and you can tell that front-end was designed by the same stylists who jumped ship to Mopar and styled the 1981 Reliant/Aries (and facelifted the Aspen/Volare for 1980). I think the quad headlight setup dressed these cars up considerably. IIRC, with the Mercury Zephyr, the 2-door sedan came standard with quads, and was a fairly attractive car.

Personally, I don't mind that "basket handle" roofline, either, which was meant to evoke memories of those old 1955-56 Ford Crown Victoria hardtops.

In 1984-85, the small LTD, which was basically a tarted up Fairmont, could be ordered in LX form, which came with a relatively hot 165 hp 302 V-8. It was a pretty decent performer for its time, but I think they only made around 3500.

That thing looks familiar...WA plates...a crazy friend of my mom's had one like that when I was a kid, same color I am pretty sure. I don't know what happened to it, but somehow the trunk became full of mold and maggots. It was pretty gross.

I can't hit reply due to the arcane and anachronistic page size formatting of this site....but in that pic I see an E-type roadster (suffering from what happens to me in most open cars - head higher than windshield), an Audi 80/Fox, a MB W114/115, and a mid 70s Torino wagon.
