Ford Country Squire for sure, can't see enough of the front to know what year but I think it's a '65.
  • berriberri Member Posts: 10,165
Isn't is sort of ironic how Ford dominated the station wagon business for so many years but fell flat on its face when minivans came around? I guess they put all of their talent into SUVs instead.
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
Judging by the hubcaps, it's a 1966 Ford Country Squire. My girlfriend's first car was a 1966 Ford Galaxie 500 sedan with those same hubcaps.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Geez Lemko, you are good, not many people, me included, could tell a '65 drom a '66
especially from that angle. It's a '66 Ford Country Squire/390.

That's an AC 428, with body by Frua.
  • wgraferwgrafer Member Posts: 592
Did somebody tap the bumper in the middle? Or is this the designer's intentional "obvious flaw"??? :P
  • stephen987stephen987 Member Posts: 1,994
Twin bumperettes, actually. The camera angle is bad. Here's a better angle:

That's right, it looks quite a bit like the near contemporary Frua-bodied Maserati Mistral. There was a convertible version of the AC 428.

You guys are slipping, it took youse four whole hours to tag this one! :P

I must apologize for my sluggishness. I have been offline most of the day. :) As penance, I offer the aforementioned Maserati Mistral:

Both cars have the same exquisite proportions, and some of the same overwrought details.

I'll take a guess and say it's the new Ford Fiesta.

Is this a MG? model 1100?? The side marker lights make it a 1968 (if US specs).
  • colloquorcolloquor Member Posts: 482
MG1100 or an '68 or '69 Austin America.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Yup, it's a ' 69 Austin America, essentially a re-badged Austin/MG11100 with a standard automatic transmission designed for the US market. It didn't sell well, was horribly unreliable and was soon withdrawn from US sale. There's a wrecked one at a scrap yard near me.

Looks like an Opel Rekord wagon ca, 1960...houses in the background look kinda Swedish.

    Opel Rekord wagon ca, 1960

More or less, the photo is captioned 1962 Opel Olympia Caravan but
the Rekord was originally a subset of the Olympia so perhaps it is an Olympia Rekord.

Definitely German...the little upkick behind the door is like a BMW 507, so that's my guess :shades:
  • stephen987stephen987 Member Posts: 1,994
I agree it's German--the Becker radio in the middle gives it away. Also, based on the steering wheel, it's clearly not a Mercedes. Since the 503 doesn't have the kink, I'm inclined to endorse your response--make that two votes for the BMW 507.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
    BMW 507 is correct guys.

VW Multivan as it is generally called in Spain. Let's have a look to vw.uk to see her name in the UK. Transporter? Caravelle? Escape? Or may be California?
    link :shades:

Of course, offered with a choice of gas but mostly diesel engines.

The roofline reminds me of an early 70's Mazda RX-2, but the nose doesn't. Perhaps JDM version?
  • stephen987stephen987 Member Posts: 1,994
That's, um, interesting. To me the roofline calls to mind the first-generation Toyota Carina. But, again, the nose doesn't, in any way, shape or form.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Yup, oddly enough it is sold in Europe as the Volkswagen California Biker
even though it is not sold anywhere in the USA. This superb camper van has no relation to the MoPar-based contraption (VW Routan) sold here. According to Dan Neil of the LA Times the AWD diesel version is is a modern day Westfalia.

I think it sounds very cool and I don't even like vans and campers.

    2010 Ford Taurus SHO.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,345
I also first thought mazda, but the nose doesnt ring a bell. Not an RX-2?

My other guess is an early Subaru. But I doubt it, based on the plates (what does James Bond have to do with it?)

Well, it seems to be for the Australian market, and doesn't have the JDM spec mirrors, and I don't recognise it as something we got here in UK. It looks a bit like a version of the Mitsubishi Colt, to me, especially along the flank. They assembled various Mitsubishis in Australia, I think, and I wonder if it's one of those. The nose reminded me of the Honda 1200, (I think) but the rest of it doesn't.

Me neither; but my wife keeps announcing me she would like a camper when retired.

I know what it is, but I'll leave the answer to others...

    Here are two hints.

    1. Look very closely at the hood emblem; it's a make you recognize and you probably passed a dozen cars from this company on your drive to work today.

    2. The engine is air cooled.
