The nose looks like it has the stacked headlights of a '65, not the side-by-side ones with the lower grille line of a '64.
  • andre1969andre1969 Member Posts: 26,023
actually, the more I look at it, I think it is a '64. While it does have a bit of forward thrust, that makes me think of the '65, it looks like it was smashed into that shape. It also does appear to have a bit of outline of the outer headlight in the shape of the fender. Also, the hood appears to have more creases on it, while the '65 just had one crease down the center.

And in looking at pics online, I've found some '64 Tempests with those three chrome hash marks, but no '65's.

Almost looks Hemi-esque. Didn't Ford make a few 427 racecars with Hemi heads?
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,419
I think thats right, and the car sure looks like a 66 Galaxie, from what I can see.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Close enough guys, it's a '66 Ford Galaxie 500XL with one of the ultra rare 427 SOHC motors. The guy holding the hose is Astronaut Gordon Cooper. The other guy is Jacques Passino major domo of Ford Total Performance.

Ford wanted to run the 427 "Cammer" in NASCAR but they were outlawed. Some were allowed for certain NHRA Classes and a very few were installed in street machnes.

That just screams "Chrysler 300" with that grill. Too much.

Here's a better shot. You hardly notice the grill - it's not quite as big as Jay's chin. :)

  • imidazol97imidazol97 Member Posts: 27,675
The angle of the camera above level with the hood minimizes the hood's gross size.
    > Jay's chin.
I find the legs more distracting than his chin.

Oh, I see his legs are also in the picture. :shades: I hadn't noticed them.

Jooks like a Jag Mk V with the XK8. Landau bars seem to be upside down :confuse:

Yep it's a 1951 MkV and a '98 XK8. I don't know what explains the weird landau irons but those old British convertible top mechanisms were never particularly logical.

I think the black car is an early Lancia Flavia and the white car is a Fiat 125. (Could be a 124 though).
  • jlbljlbl Member Posts: 1,333
I cannot reach the replay button. Andy, the white car looks like a Fiat 125, produced between 1967-1982. With double squared headlights this 125 should be close to the later production year. The black one is indeed a Lancia, but I cannot remember the model.

Stephen had got it early, but I couldn't see his post either. Magic still operating in the web…?

  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Stephen is right on both counts, the Lancia is a '61 Flavia Berlina.

    '59 Ford, looks like a two-door. Would be, let's see, a 352 with a 3-speed I would guess.

Great pic of the Ford - what's the story behind it?
  • berriberri Member Posts: 10,165
I miss those old fashion revolving MARS lights on the roof. I think the Michigan Highway Patrol may still use them?
  • imidazol97imidazol97 Member Posts: 27,675
Wasn't the motor called a 352 cu in Interceptor?

    Answer:
Introduced in 1958 as part of the Interceptor line of Ford V8 engines, the Ford 352 of 351.9 cu in (5.8 L) actual displacement was the replacement for the Lincoln Y-block. It is a 332 with 3.5 inches (88.90 mm) stroke and a 4 inches (101.60 mm) bore, and was rated from 208 bhp (155.1 kW) with a 2-barrel carburetor to over 300 bhp (223.7 kW) on the 4-barrel models. When these engines were introduced, they were called Interceptor V-8 on the base models and Interceptor Special V-8 on the 4-barrel models.[3] The Interceptor was the base-performance engine in 1958. For the 1959 model year, the FE engine series was renamed the Thunderbird V-8 and the Thunderbird Special V-8.[4]. When installed in Mercury vehicles, these engines were named "Marauder". This series of engines usually weighed over 650 lb (290 kg).[

Buick Riviera, for sure. I'm guessing 1967?
  • wgraferwgrafer Member Posts: 592
Buick Riviera for sure, but I've got to go with 1968 (1st year of side marker lights).
  • imidazol97imidazol97 Member Posts: 27,675
Telling some years of Rivieras apart is like identifying early VW Beetles. There isn't much difference.

Actually it's easy to tell a '68-'69 from a '66 or '67 Riv. The earlier cars have much smaller, finely shaped bumpers. I'll admit it's very hard to tell within those two year groupings which is which.

    This is a '67>image

For my money the cleanly detailed, ultra-sleek '66-'67 Rivs were the best of 'em all including the highly prized '63-'65 cars.

Quite a trio there. Inside there's a Charger ('66?) in yellow. In front is a somewhat tired-looking series one Studebaker Lark. Around the corner--Plymouth VIP?

Hmm, wonder if that dealer used to be one of those Stude-Benz dealerships?
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Yeah it would surprise me if that was once a Stu/Pack/Benz store, we had one in my home town.

Grand Marquis and a Town Car...

I'm going to guess '74 on both..

A few years ago there was an original Bronco making the rounds at the various Four Wheel drive magazines with a Cammer 427 installed.

I like the three pointed star atop the sign on the right at that dealer - reminds me of the star on the Stuttgart central train station.
  • mp67rivmp67riv Member Posts: 14
The 67 has the heavy chrome bar across the middle of the grille and the parking lights, while the grille on the 66 has a finer mesh without the chrome bar. I owned a 65 years ago, and currently have a 67. The Rivs of that era had sleek and classic styling, lots of power, and reasonably tight suspensions for such large cars...but I am admittedly somewhat biased!!

Yep, that's right. You can look at that picture and understand how FoMoCo ruined the luxury image of Lincoln. If you ask me, the silver GM is the better looking od the two, the Linc has too much junk tacked onto the front.
