1985-89 Dodge Aries, but I can't narrow the year down beyond that. Looks like it was originally some kind of security car, or gov't car, so probably some stripper model, maybe an Aries America?
Yeah, those things were custom-made. After factory convertibles went away, a niche market sprang up in the late 70's that would transform a closed car into a convertible. I read somewhere that the conversion could easily run around $10K, so obviously, most of the conversions were Caddies and Lincolns. I don't think too many people would buy a $5-6K Caprice and then throw another $10K into it to chop it back then!
I'd be curious to see that Lincoln vert from other angles. That top looks like it came off of something GM-ish...perhaps a '71-76 full-size, but something about it makes me think of the top on my '67 Catalina!
As for the year, I really can't tell these things apart in the 70's, but 1979 is probably a pretty good guess. 1979 was the last year Lincoln, or any of the domestics, built a car that big, and as a result, I think a lot of people rushed out to buy them, plus there were the commemorative final editions and such.
Stephen is right, it is a 1979 Lincoln Town Coupe Convertible, it's Brooklyn NY-based owner claims only 4 convertibles were made that year. I think that sounds a bit low but here's another angle on it>
They actually had a base model that was just a Lincoln Continental... sedan or coupe... No Town involved... My mother had a '72, then a '76 coupe... and my stepfather had a matching '76 coupe (though in a different color).
52-54 Ford wagon, 58 Ford wagon, maybe a British Daimler cab, 60 Impala, 62 Ford cab, hey Andre looks like a 60 Dodge wagon, early 60's Falcon, Checker cab, 58 Buick, 63 Impala wagon, 59 T-Bird - can't really make the rest out on my computer screen.
Yeah, I had some trouble making out the images on the top of the screen. I think Chrysler went heavy fleet sales in 59 IIRC. Too bad, because the quality on those models had finally overcome the 57 fiasco. I'm thinking, was Chrysler ever really effectively managed? Maybe in the 40's and before? Hard to say on Iaccoca. He and his team pulled Mopar out of the gutter with a loan from Uncle, but didn't really seem to chart it on to a stronger future course. They may not have had the money though which may ironically become the same situation with the (for all practical purposes) FIAT takeover today.
The white T-Bird in front of the Desoto cab is a 1960, isn't it?
The car to the right of the phantom looks like another 58 Ford. The picture over ran the margins a little. I inserted width="650" height="353" before the last greater than sign to adjust the size down to 650 pixels width.
Thanks for the picture image change. It now looks like the T-Bird has three rows of taillights which would make it a 60 as you stated. Is the other cab next to it a 63 Ford? It looks like the tail light fender may be more rounded than the 62 behind it?Now that 60 Impala next to the 62 Ford cab looks like one of those short lived flat top 4 dr hardtops with the big wraparound rear window. I always liked that look on the 59/60 Impala for whatever reasons. Totally irrational, but I can't help it! Long shot, but that revealed car front by the curb to the right of the Rolls - maybe a 56 Chevy? Blow that picture up a bit more and maybe Andre is driving the Dodge wagon?
Yep, that is the 2011 Peugeot RCZ. It's not a concept but a preview of an upcoming model that will include a Diesel-Electric Hybrid variant which should ge a zillion MPH.
I'm not that well-versed in my Buicks from that era, but I think it might be a '63. For some reason I'm thinking the '64 had a more peaked grille, and headlights that were more integrated. As for the trim level, I can't remember if they called the wagon "LeSabre Estate" or just "Estate"
...I believe Buick's largest wagon model from 1964 thru 1969 was the 121" wheelbase Sportwagon based on the intermediate-sized chassis. The Special Deluxe wagon was on a smaller 116" wheelbase.
Andre is correct - this is indeed a '63 Buick LeSabre. They were offered in both 6 and 8 passenger versions, and they also came in a more upscale 'Invicta' version.

A guy I went to college with had one of those as his third or fourth four wheeler after he totaled the others.

BTW, looks like a decent '56 Buick behind it!
I learned to drive on that '72 coupe...

The cab in front of the black Falcon isn't a Checker, it's a '59 DeSoto. DeSotos were popular NYC cabs in the 40s and 50s.

You can find a few more shots of it and lots of other Fiats at Hudson's CarSpace page (this one came from his FLUFreakOut album).
