1953-ish Packard Caribbean? Odd coincidence - my brother just bought a '51 Packard 4-door this morning! Any thoughts on hints for the care and upkeep of a '51 Packard? I know, his is not anything special, except he learned to drive in one...
I think Texases is very close with "53-ish", but I gotta go with 1954 for 2 reasons: 1. Most '53s were not 2-tone, and I think the 'Packard' script on the rear fender indicates '54 as the '53 did not have it.
You're on the nose Hudson, it's a 2005 MG ZT 260 SE with a Mustang 4.6L V8. It's based on the FWD Rover 75 but was re-engineered for RWD and V8 power by Prodrive.
Sorry I did NOT get a picture of this. Last week I was at the airport in Ulan Baatar ( Mongolia, long story) and saw a very strange car that I cannot identify.
The front reminded me of a new Beetle, the rear window had a reverse angle to it, and the door panels had raised horizontal ribbing -- the whole thing looked like a heavily revised Citroen.
It did not have a maker's marque on it -- or at least it looked like the place for one had been replaced by something else...unless there is a car company that starts with a W????
Yep, my first thought when I read Guyfuson's post was that it was probably a Wartburg, Tatra or GAZ (the one that replicates the Prinz) since Iron Curtain cars should be prevalent in Mongolia but when I got to the part about the reverse slant of the rear window I figured it might be an Ami since the Citroen double Chevron could resemble a "W" and it does have corrugations on the side.
If it wasn't for the reverse backlight I'd say it was a 2CV.
If it was a big car, it might have been a Renault Vel Satis or Avantime. But those are both pretty unusual and expensive cars for Mongolia, plus the rear window isn't actually reverse-angled--the shape of the C-pillar just makes it look that way.
I was thinking of an Avantime, but the sides aren't corrugated. However, the shock of something weird might blur perceptions. An Avantime in Mongolia would be about as odd as an Ami, I would think. It sure was a daring thing.
Aaah French cars...always original, nobody wants to copy those!
If Toyota can make a fake Mercedes, why not Nissan? :shades:
Last night on the news I saw a C4C lineup at a dealer, and a decent looking 85-88 Cressida was in the lineup. I actually felt a little bad about it for a second...but one has to remember, any car like that to be worth the trade-in value would have to be in concours condition, and they are not rare, just decent old cars, probably moreso than an old Q.
There was also a first series Legend in the lineup...but most of those I see anymore are burning oil noticeably, so it probably had issues.
Inevitably there will be some decent older cars that will get clunkered due to this program, which is too bad and sad in our car enthusiast eyes, but I guess that's life!
I'd probably only truly feel bad if I saw an old MB being clunked, especially W126...and even then, there are plenty of nice ones out there, and those parts will definitely be recycled...so I could get over it.
I'd imagine for vehicles with strong used parts markets - like older German cars, they will be parted out. There's always been demand for nice old MB interior pieces, small trim, lenses, etc, as some owners like DIY upgrades. It'd be foolish to waste those small parts.
Actually it is not Korean, it'll be made in Rosario, Argentina for the South American market. Rumor has it the Chevy Agile may replace the lackluster Korean-built Chevy Aveo.
I just saw that car on Autoblog,, It's from Brazil but I can't remember the name. I know they were saying they did not like the looks of it as compared to the new Aveo. I (personally) think the styling is very similar to a lot of the newer CUV's.
60 Chevy (either Bel Air or Biscayne, not sure), 57 or 58 Chevy pickup, 57 Chevy sedan and 57 or 58 Caddy. I can't really make out the car by the semi from my computer screen.
The '60 Chevy is probably a Biscayne, it looks really plain, the '57 is a Bel Air, note side trim and white walls. The pickup is a Chevy too ('56 or '57?). Obviously Chevrolet Division had the deal to supply cars for Lassie that year.

Any ideas/photo links?

Reverse backlight has the key...maybe it was, I can't think of anything else.
And that may be a good thing in this case. :P
I wonder how a 1960s Citroen would end up in Mongolia.

That's it, it's a 1958 Toyopet Crown. I thought only British cars were so retrograde as to include a starter crank in 1958. :surprise:

I'm guessing ... Chevy Agile. Probably a Korean derivative of something in the GM stable.
