There are pictures on netcarshow.com of both the Maybach Zeppelin 57 S and the 62 S, and it sounds like these will be ............... very limited in number as a special edition to the run of the mill Maybach. Both very expensive...
Well China is an interesting market in that there isn't really strong brand identification, except maybe to Rolls Royce and Mercedes.
Buick sells well in China because they have no prejudice against American cars, for instance. They only had to suffer under Mao, not under Detroit in the 1980s. :P

As a one time practioner of advertising its strange to me that China has developed into a manufacturing/exporting superpower without developing any brand names widely recognized out side its borders. Probably the most recognized is the name of a pretty good beer, "Tsingtao", but almost everything else they make has someone else's name on it.
I think some Maybachs must go to China...when I was at the AMG facility, there was a contingent of (mainland) Chinese people being taken for rides and being allowed to drive a fleet of high end AMG and Maybach models. New money is new money no matter where it lives, and it tends to value impact over style. No doubt RR, MB, and BMW are extremely positive brands there.
Wasn't there an old royal family connection to Buick? And I think pre-commie China admired American products as a whole. There's a future for some American brands there.
I think it might be a quality issue. China is a legitimate manufacturing superpower, but if we are honest, most of the items are not of the best quality. If desirable products can be made, perhaps those brands will gain recognition.
Kind of like postwar Japan, but with a nice dose of social and envionmental injustice. For Japan, something happened maybe in the 70s that made the brands become wanted. That's what hasn't happened yet for China.
Circa 1961 Studebaker Champ pickup, (Studebaker used the front portion of the compact Lark as the cab) and a 1965 Plymouth Fury. I guess a Fury II by what little trim I can see.
Yup, it's a Studebaker Champ (1960-64), which indeed was a Lark front end grafted onto a half-ton Pickup chassis, the result being a surprisingly good looking truck which was arguably better proportioned than the Lark cars.
I don't know the exact trim of the Plymouth behind it but it is a '65 Fury of some kind.
Iy looks a bit like a Ford Model A (1927-31) but cars didn't look that different back then so it could be a contemporary Studebaker, Hudson, Chevy, Whippet etc.
It was almost impossible to tell the exact year because they didn't change the styling from year to year but your pic is definitely of a late 20s/early 30s car.
It's a good thing I wan't around back then, I'm not sure I could tell a Packard from a Hudson but I think you guys are right, This '31 Chevy looks similar, Model A's have curvier grille shapes.
Comments
But I still can't tell if it's standalone or if they will have a Maybach 57 Zeppelin and Maybach 62 Zeppelin.
More interesting links at the Straightline story. (Semi "safe" link, unless you scroll down beyond the first pic).
Interesting pictures by the way....
