I preferred the Valiant because of its mini 57 Chrysler 300 look grill. I never liked the more horizontal Lancer look as well. I also liked the wagons even though they were a bit unique. The first Valiants were my favorite stylewise, but Valiant and Dart were great machines for many years.

The Lancer/Valiants of that era remind me of little birthday cakes. They seem decorated rather than styled.

Birthday cakes. Good analogy. I like it.

Did I miss the Mystery Car Pix annual reunion cruise to Tahiti?
  • wgraferwgrafer Member Posts: 592
Maybe everyone went to Chile or Haiti on Earthquake Relief Humanitarian missions. :confuse:
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
Note to Self: include lostwrench1 in next cruise memo list.

Well you have all been going strong for 24,825 posts---that's pretty impressive.

Must be close to a record here at Edmunds. (I'm not sure I know how to look that up). :confuse:

You want something more specific than "Peugeot"?

Does looking at the license plate count as cheating?

I like it, though. I see a good bit of Aston Martin there.

I want the name, and for bonus points, the future production car line it is supposed to inspire.
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,125
    ...not that that's saying much:

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
In that case it must not be a real Benz.

Profile resembles the E coupe, but the front end looks odd to me, more like the SLK model.

Must be a clone of some sort?
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,125
    Nope, it's a Benz.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,748
So... its not a late '90s CL?

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
In that case the thread title threw me off.

I'm going to say it's a CL500, the big coupe based off the S-class.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,464
MB C140 (almost certainly a S/CL500 or 500SEC if 92-93) of a wide year span, I will guess around 1996 as I think the trim is the later style. Not possible to tell exact year without factory wheels or interior details. Car apears to be in Florida, which would explain the nauseating wheels.
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,125
It's a '95, but nobody's listed the model name yet...
  • hudsonthedoghudsonthedog Member Posts: 552
    CL600
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,464
If it's an S600, it's been debadged. It could also be a Euro S420, but I don't know who would import such a thing.
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,125
Not a CL. I know I'm being picky here, but the name's what tripped me up.
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,125
Neither an S600 nor an S420...
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,464
Hmmm... it's not an SEC either as that suffix was only used for the C140 in 92-93...so maybe the owner is calling the car something else.
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,125
Now you see my problem. But you're right, it's not an SEC, not a CL, but MB gave it another name......

Doesn't the record belong to the long-lost IDLSWDY (I Don't Like SUV's, Why Do You?) forum?

The long lost IDLSWDY discussion topped out around 40,000 posts I think.

The Subaru Crew Meet the Members discussion is around 31,000 posts. High End Luxury Cars has 25k. Real-World Trade-In Values has 39k. And I think the current leader is Stories from the Sales Frontlines with 51,000 posts. I may have missed one or two biggies.

You guys are slacking off. :D

I haven't a clue. If it's a 1995, it is a C210 badged S420/500/600 (called "S-class coupe" back in the day), other than that, I couldn't tell ya. It doesn't appear to be tuned, and C140s generally didn't fall into tuner hands anyway.
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,125
You got it, I was looking for the 'Coupe' name (it's an S500), I always thought 2-door Ss were either CLs or SECs, I had never heard of an S 'Coupe'. MB only did that for a few years in the mid-90s.

Yeah, well, okay....not FAIR. These guys post PICTURES!

There should be separate categories for awards, like the Oscars.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,464
Yeah, 1994-1997, the name replaced "SEC" and was replaced by "CL" . They weren't badged "coupe" of course, so it was kind of a funny thing.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
I don't know why they call it the OS CARS anyway. I've never seen SYNC or OnStar win any awards, and Toyota's software gets at best, a Razzie.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Subaru Crew Meet the Members discussion is around 31,000 posts

And note that it's actually "Meet the Members II", so that's our 2nd thread. ;)

Soon to be teapots in a Turkish market. Or the right front fender on your 2012 Hyundai.

Think of it this way, as a form of consolation....old car molecules cannot be destroyed. Somewhere, out there, molecules from a 1928 Studebaker might indeed still be doing their thing in another modern automobile.

Personally, I would thumbs down the bunch except the Pontiac, like a Roman emperor. :P

The Pontiac on the right looks like a '70 Bonneville..

Interesting. Had me confused cause its not the US English spelling of "liter."

I guess cause the pontiac comes from down under? (could be GTO, by the by)

Work, and the efforts of my reluctant MG Magnette to defeat me, have rather precluded looking at the computer much - still never mind. While you are thinking about the engine - I'm hopeless at those - I will try to find a couple of pictures to post...

DKW F-junior, also sold as an Auto Union.
  • stephen987stephen987 Member Posts: 1,994
    Dove GTR4
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,229
Yes - here it was sold as the DKW Junior - they only sold the little coupe thing that looked like a Thunderbird as an Auto Union, at that stage.
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,229
Yes - the Triumph TR4 converted into a hatchback coupe along the lines of a Harrington Sunbeam Alpine - Dove were a firm of Triumph dealers in Wimbledon, South London, but it was quite expensive and not many were sold.

    Riley Pathfinder?
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,229
Hello Fintail - yes it's the old Riley RMH Pathfinder (known at the time as the Ditchfinder, because they took a while to get the rear suspension right). Later they switched over to the Riley 2.6, which was similar but had the Austin engine as in the Wolseley 6/90, so the old Riley twin cam 2.4 engine was no more.
