Looks like a '59 Pontiac, a '55 or so VW, a '59 Ford, a '57 Ford Wagon, and a '58 or so Auto Union DKW 1000...can't quite make out the black GM car on my screen....
I think the black one is a '57 Cadillac. I tried like heck to see the one just left of the '59 Pontiac, but I give up (definitely GM, could be a '59 Olds, but can't see enough to positively i.d.) Good job!
Still moderately common in the UK when I moved there in 1990........ The Rancho actually looked like a good idea .....
An aesthetically pleasing design with an eminently practical rear end (there was even a pair of optional rear facing seats to make it into a seven seater), but marred by the fact that the whole thing was based on a Simca 1100 engine and sheet metal. I would have owned one at the time had the opportunity arisen, and I always like tho think that the rear ends might live on as garden sheds and chicken coops.
Nice job Jwilliams2. I think the '59 Ford is almost certainly a Galaxie, note the formal roofline.
The FWD 1000 was badged as an Auto Union or as a DKW but not IIRC as both although technically DKW was the fourth ring of AU (the others were Audi, Horch and Wanderer).
Good call on the '57 Cadillac. My first thought was '57 Chevrolet but if you look closely you can see the curve on the bumper matches those of the Cadillacs>
Yup it's the V10-powered Porsche Carrera GT. It's evidently a brilliant, if hideously expensive, car but I always thought it deserved a more distinctive name. The Carrera name has regularly appeared on 356 and 911 variants since the mid 50s yet this car is related to neither and certainly never raced in the fabled Carrera Panamericana.
They should have called it the "Porsche Nurburgring".
Mike Valentine of radar detector fame has a yellow one. I've seen it a couple of times.. Just your basic 6-speed transmission. No F1 style automated manual available...
I'm stumped...my first instinct was Ford as well, but I don't see any blue ovals.
Since you called me out, could it be a Brazilian model? If so, it's before my time, but it would be Ford, Chevy, Fiat, or VW (the 4 dominant brands back then), and again I'd lean towards Ford.
Certainly wouldn't look bad on a Civic, but I think this goes to a larger car from the other Japanese auto maker, you know which one, the one that has some ties to Subaru.
Yep, but I saw it earlier - 2012 Camry. Folks jumping all over it as more terrible bland stuff, but I don't have a problem with it. Better looking than the Accord and 6 to me, close to others.
"Toyota on Monday said the new Camry will be officially unveiled August 23 in a series of four simultaneous reveals around the U.S. The new Camry Hybrid was unofficially revealed to the public on Inside Line in a series of spy photos late last week. The 2012 Camry goes on sale in the fall."
From the left Possibly a Riley (pre or immediately post war) Austin A 30 (early 1950's) matt greyish Austin A 55 Cambridge (about 1960) (or Morris or Riley equivalent - badge engineering rules!) black Ford Consul (est 1958) red Motorcycle uncertain, but possibly BSA from compact shape Vauxhall Velox?? That's a rough guess as the Cambridge could be any of several British Motor Corporation products
Correct on both counts! In regard to the Sphinx, apparantly in 1912 a journalist wrote of the Siddeley Deasey on one of its road tests that its performance was "as silent and inscrutable as the Sphinx". This provided J D Siddeley with the inspiration to use the Sphinx as the Siddeley Deasey Trade mark:
Many different versions of the Sphinx have been used on the hood over the years, with different sizes, shapes, and some being removable while others were fixed.
Very impressive Graham. I don't think anyone else could've gotten so many. Boy were 1950's British cars frumpy! I'm surprised there isn't a Minor in that group.
Yes, big 'un indeed. 1967 Chrysler. Looks too plain to be a New Yorker, I will guess from the badge on the front fender (based on length because I can't read it) that it is a Newport Custom.

Many different versions of the Sphinx have been used on the hood over the years, with different sizes, shapes, and some being removable while others were fixed.
Jet age influence in 50s car design and trim was subtle and rarely seen.
A time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing.
From the left, thats a Rover, pre-war - not sure of model grey Austin A35 Black Austin A55 Cambridge MkII Red Ford Consul 2 - an earlier one not a 375 I thnk the black car on the right might be a Singer 1500 - or a SInger Hunter By the shops we have another BMC Farina deign - either a MOrris Oxford V or another Austin Cambridge A55 Mk II gery roof car facing away from us is a Rover P4 - probably an early one, so more than likely a 75 And the van is an Austin A35 too....
The jet engine part of the postwar Armstrong Siddeley mascot is a reference to the jet engines that they were building - part of the Hawker Siddeley group.... Hence the name of their last range of cars - Sapphire... the engines were called that too, I think.
I'll take a few others on the left: parked is a '52 Dodge, behind the '58 Ford looks like a '55 Ford, coming at us looks like a '53 Pontiac followed by a '54 Ford convertible.

Sorta odd considering Porsche invented the twin-clutch tranny, first seen in 962 endurance racers.
The PDK is available on every current Porsche model and it's a good bet their next exotic will have it too.

It looks sort of like a MkII Escort. However there are also similarities to a Hillman Avenger 2 door. I'm guessing late 1960's or early 1970's

I'm used to the later Corcel, which seemed (a lot) bigger than that. It competed against the VW Passat, both being angular hatches.
The size threw me off.

As a kid I liked the Passat. That sunken rear window was neat.

I have the B-52s front and center on my mind because they will perform at Freeman Stage (near Fenwick Island, DE) next Wednesday.
I am SOOO going.
Take that to the concert and have them autograph it. How cool would that be?
