Nice ad; it is indeed a 1954 Lagonda 3.0 litre. I had a Dinky of it in the same color...er colour.

    a 2006 Spyker? I need to know a lot in a hurry. :)
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,156
Wow, like getting a call from Roger Staubach, asking for football pointers ;)

Of course, there's wiki, but Spyker's such a small company there's not a lot of info around. Can't say I remember seeing one... :confuse:
    Sorry!

Yep, you got that part right. Somebody smashed one up 'round here and I may get to appraise it. Apparently there are all these crazy variants.

Seems to me I could have bought a Mitsubishi EVO and beat the pants off it for about 1/5th the price.

Yup, you can see the rear of a '65 Chevy Impala to the left of the '56 Chevy in the foreground. Oddly there are only a couple of other 1960s cars in this mid-60s shot which is dominated by 1950s cars of all kinds.

My guesses - 60 Rambler, UPS truck, early fifties Chevy van, 56 Chevy, 58 DeSoto, 58 Chevy, 65 Chevy, 62 dodge wagon, VW convertible and maybe areound a 60 Caddy in front of it? That's all I can really make out.
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,156
Also a '63-ish Falcon a couple back from the old Chevy van, and a '63 Dodge wagon to the right of the '65 Chevy.

Good job Berri - there's a '62-'63 red Ford Fairlane on extreme right, and the one in front of the red VW convertible is a '59 Oldsmobile.

And of course, the ubiquitous UPS "truck" is technically called a "Package Car".

    early fifties Chevy van,

I don't think so Berri, it's an early 50s Dodge, similar to this one>

There is another '65 Chevy besides the aforementioned Impala, it's behind the black (Dodge?) panel truck. Anybody see it?

Are you talking about the wagon with its butt sticking out behind the "package car"? It looks like it could qualify. Incidentally, as if it mattered, the '60 Rambler on the left at the front is an Ambassador.

Nope the white car behind the black panel truck and ahead of the white Falcon. Look at the bigger version of the photo and you'll see it's very recognizable

    Do you mean the Corvair?
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,774
these pictures make me eralize how radically styling changed in just a few years back in the old days, and it kept happening.

Now, 5-10 years isn't much of a difference. Even all 20 year old cars looks pretty modern. Not like 20 year old cars in a picture from 1955 or 1965!

The cut of the windows is absurd. Who is supposed to see out of that thing? It is after all, a car, not a garden sculpture. Well maybe that's why it's a "concept". :)

Here's a car I was once privileged to have in my possession, and in that color too.
I wonder if many made to the US?

  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,675
Triumph 2000 Roadster ca. late 40s, early 50s IIRC. Very few were imported to the USA; the first Triumph to catch on here was the TR-2.

Triumph 2000 or 1800 Roadster, late 40s. Yes they were imported here by Fergus Motors in New York, andys is right.

Americans either love them or loathe them. There seems to be no in-between attitude with this car over here.

But whether you like it or loathe it, it does bear the distinction of probably being the last car in the world ever built with a rumble seat. I'm sure the young lads in postwar England just loved helping their lady friends as they clambered over the rear fenders to get in. :)

Another distinction is that the car was designed by two people---one took the front half and the other the back end.

Not terribly valuable in the USA but usually a hit at the British car meets. It's basically a pre-war car in every respect, a wonderfully quirky British car.

    It's an Aston-Martin V12 Zagato. I'm not sure if it's a one-off or a limited edition like the original DB 4 Zagato.

Zagato ought to be ashamed of themselves , the standard-body A-M DB9 or DBS is a lot better looking.

    G'day

I've come in late on this one but think it is beautiful (if you can do something about those wheels. I like the Kammback.

At only GBP330,000 plus taxes, its a bargain... Well, perhaps not, but it is a very appealing car.

When we lived in Gloucestershire, I would regularly see an original DB4 Zagato in British Racing Green. The owner used it for popping into town and it was clearly well used.

    Cheers

The resolution on my monitor is not the best, but I will take the left side starting with the '61 Impala convertible (I cannot place that small piece of station wagon closest to the camera). Then comes a '64 Ford Galaxy 500XL (based on the bucket seats), what I think is a mid '60s Dodge Coronet, a '59 Ford (possibly a Fairlane 500 but not a Galaxy), and a '65 or so Cadillac Sedan DeVille. The rest on that side are lost to me. Coming toward the camera is a low line '55 Ford wagon, a '59 or '60 Studie Lark, a '57 Pontiac and I think a '56 Lincoln. To the right of the '55 wagon is a '59 Ford Galaxy. I will leave the rest for someone with a better monitor.

    Some guessses:

61 Chevy, 64 Ford, 63 Plymouth, 59 Ford, mid sixties Lincoln Continental, Renault Dalphine?, 64 Pontiac, 55 Ford wagon, 63 ish Studebaker, 59 Ford, 57 Pontiac, 57 Lincoln - about all I can make out.
  • berriberri Member Posts: 10,165
Yeah, that car next to the 64 Ford is either a 64 Plymouth or Dodge with that one year coupe roofline.
  • bhill2bhill2 Member Posts: 2,612
I am really interested in any guesses on the station wagon between the camera and the 61 Chevy. I can't even make a guess.

My guess on the white wagon in lower left is a '60-61 Plymouth Valiant wagon (looks like the style I recall, but not a lot to see).
The '64 Galaxie 500XL is a twin to one I had back in the day (in addition to the buckets, the dead giveaway is the small oval XL on the side trim near the rear.
After the '64 Plymouth and '59 Ford is a white '63 Pontiac 4-dr Hardtop followed by an English Ford and then another Pontiac , a 2-dr hardtop '64.

I see a few random ones like a '62 Olds parked on right, maybe a white '55 Imperial with the unique stand-up rear lights on the fenders, a '60 Pontiac, a 1st gen Corvair, etc., but my monitor is not helping.

1958 Dodge police car, '62 Pontiac 4-dr hardtop, and yet another '62 Pontiac (wagon).

As I recall, there were 8,000,000 stories in the Naked City, and this must have been one of them.

I can't remember Toody & Muldoon driving anything older than a '61 Plymouth as they drove down the ramp to the Cross Bronx Expressway.... but never as old as a '58.

You're right on all counts., Grafer. All kinds of interesting cars showed up in Naked City, shot in New York during the early 60s. The show had a deal with Pontiac so the cops always drove those but I don't recall any real NYPD Pontiacs from that era, let alone the 4dr H/Ts that the principal characters drove.

It being NY, some imports showed up including Porsches, R-Rs and the usual VWs and Dauphines. One episode featured a 300SL Roadster.

But I don't recognize the white grille surround, is that a tuner car, maybe Dinan or something?
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 269,007
Is that the 635CSi from the defunct dealership in Ontario? (juice...note the two doors, and that all E28 M5s were black..)

With those grills, that car could have been on Miami Vice!
