Obviously a revolutionary concept in auto design that was brutally suppressed by the tanning salon industry. :P

    Some sort of Rambler.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Van on the way left looks like a VW Sharan.

I usually recognize European cars that are sold in Brazil, but the car in the fore front likely never made it there.

Not bad. Any guess on the year? Wrecked cars are always a challenge but it keeps us sharp!

    Late 60's perhaps '67 or '68.

69, so close enough. A Rambler American, slowly being recycled by mother nature.

It's a JDM car from the late 60s/ early70s judging from the plate, the mirror locations and the alloy wheels which appear to Cromadoras which were optional on everything from Fiats to BMWs. Then there's the color and the blackout hood.

It could be a Mazda or Datsun of some sort, I just can't pin it down. :confuse:

It just came to me, it's an Isuzu Bellet GT-R (ca. '69-'73).

You had going for a bit there Lemko. ;)

You're right (both times!), it's a 1947 Talbot-Lago Record T26, body by Graber of Switzerland.

I think I see a Hundai 'H', so is this the new Veloster?? Pretty good looking, but I wouldn't want to see the repair bills from a rear-end crash.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
It has an odd 3 door configuration. This funny ad got censored by overly sensitive folks:

Pretty funny but a little over the top for a car ad. Kinda gets in the way of what the point of an advert is.

If only they had kept the rear engine rear drive configuration of the original concept, I could easily live with the looks. :(

That would be a Kaiser Darrin DKF-161....I believe it's based on a Henry J chassis....
  • wgraferwgrafer Member Posts: 592
    Yes it is a Kaiser-Darrin! 1954!!!
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
Ah, sliding doors---another revolutionary automotive concept suppressed by the patio door industry! :P Not a bad looking car except for the front end.

Some of the later ones had a 300hp Cadillac V8, and weighing around 2500 lbs, should have been a kick to drive...... And the doors were truly unique!
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
Yes but not from the factory. Darrin bought the leftover cars (they didn't sell very well because they cost more than a Corvette!) and installed the Cadillac V8s. The factory did make an engine switch, however, installing the Willys 6 cylinder 90 HP engine in place of the Henry J 80 HP one. These cars are fairly valuable now, but in stock form I wouldn't imagine them to be all that much fun to drive. An interesting collectible for someone's hobby, however.

Hey now, sliding doors make a lot more sense than those idiotic gullwing things. :P
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
Yeah but can you imagine the leakage, rust, rattle and jamming issues with a sliding door that goes *inside* the fender? Or collision repair?
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
I saw a Darrin that had been re-engined with a 6 liter LS6 (Corvette V8) at a rod and custom show but even that wasn't as crazy as the Citroen DS with an LS6 and RWD at the same show!

Don't know the movie (there have been so many), but the car is a Citroën Traction Avant.
Looks to be a lateish one, so maybe around 1950?
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
The still is from Love in the Afternoon (1957) and you're right, the car in the center is a late version of the groundbreaking Traction-Avant, a 1949 Citroen 11 Legere.

There are a couple of other cars of the same vintage parked to the right curb, care to try those?

Cars at the curb, from leftmost - looks like a Citroen 2CV commercial, then an early 50s Ford Vedette and what looks like an early Renault 4CV
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Good job Fin. IMCDB sez the Vedette is a '49 (I don't know how they can tell).

I'd guess that the red '65 Pontiac is a LeMans based on the whitewalls and the H/T coupe body.

Did you notice the rust showing around the headlights of the '57 Ford?

Is that a '64 Mercury turning right at the extreme lower left of the photo?
