Occasionally two-toned, which matches the sweep of the front wings (fenders)and running boards very well, this is a 1947 example which must be pretty close in age to the one in question, which is a Bristol 400.
The first wave of British-German hybrids. Fast forward around 60 years, and you have Vauxhalls and British Fords with German design, BMW engines in Morgans, VW-Bentleys, and BMW-Rolls.
A bit hard for a foreigner. Perversely, I did not see the title but had figured out that it looked like Chicago. The single headlights on the two door hardtop middle of frame might suggest 1957, but I am stretching it to put a name to any of them...
There is a Beer truck to the right and a coal truck in centre of image.
Sympathies to Graham ('bit hard for a foreigner'). Probably just as hard for me to tell the difference between a '47 and a '48 Bristol!
I'll try a few, just the moving ones... -Coming at us a '55 Plymouth 2-dr sedan, a '57 Ford, and a '55 Plymouth wagon. -Going away a '54 Chevy, a '56 Cadillac, and a '51 Plymouth wagon.
I'll have some of those refreshments too, thank you. I think that the car at the upper right is a '56 Chevy. Can anyone identify the car behind it? Oh, and I will hazard a guess that the one whose rear end can be seen beside the coal truck is a '55 Mercury.

Yes, the two-tone car at the upper right is a '56 Chevy, probably a Bel Air and it's curious to me that it's the only hardtop in this 1957 photo. The car behind it is a '52-'54 Ford.
The car next to the collier looks like a '55 or '56 Merc to me as well.
Well, I'll start with the pale blue Simca 1000 facing to the left in the background, and beyond it, framed by the three vertical lines of the lamp or whatever it is there is a blue Simca Aronde. Do you think the dark grey car in the distance, above the red bit, and blocked by the blurred woman, is a Peugeot 403 convertible, as driven by Colombo?
MG TA, Sunbeam, probably an Alpine but possibly a Tiger, Citroen 2CV. Can't properly place the first car background left, but maybe a Volvo or Peugot? Next to it is a Simca 1100 and next to that a Mk1 Ford Cortina.
That first car in the background on the left is a Panhard PL17 - and I think the extra chrome strip across the front of the bonnet means it is a PL17 Grand Standing - a sort of deluxe trim.
Me too.......been a while since I've seen one , but they used to be everywhere. It'd be easy to tell from the front. You knew when you were meeting one at night because the headlights were so narrowly spaced.
The blue Simca is a 1000 - rear engined square little saloon - third car in on one of my model photos above - the Simca 1100 was a different thing altogether with front wheel drive and a hatchback body...
As for the slightly out of period blue roadster, I'll leave that for you guys.
And don't forget about the Esprit's Auxiliary Heating System, also called "engine fire". If you look on the Lotus Owners website, you will see on the masthead a "Fire Marshal" who keeps track of these incidents in order to help make the cars safer.
It is a Biscuter, although this particular one is a Voisin according to the badge - only because it comes from a set of French models, and Voisin did make it under licence.
I tend to collect obscure model cars, or models of less fashionable ones - hence the Ford Vedette, the Simca Ariane, the Renault Juvaquatre but best of all the Sachsenring P240 which I found for only a couple of pounds in a shop in London a few weeks ago...
Re the Lucas smoke, my MG Magnette is actually being rewired at the moment, as the 1955 wiring has given too many problems - really it is too unreliable, but having done that I have got rid of the flashing indicators, and resurrected the old semaphore ones - they are still legal here for cars of that age, and will pass our MOT test, but of course are not totally suitable for regular use on busy modern roads - however for generally fair weather use, I can manage with them supplemented by handsignals - the right indicators - which are more important here than those on the left - packed up in the Spring and I have managed ok without so I think semaphore trafficators will be an improvement....

I'm surprised to see a coal truck in a 1957 photo, I think they disappeared in NYC around 1950 (most were prewar chain-drive Macks.)

The funky sedan next to the Simca 1000?/1100? is indeed a Panhard PL17 Grand Standing.
The light blue roadster with the Folded windshield sure loooks like an MG-TC or PA but seen from another angle it is clearly neither>

I guess I'll put that down to fat finger trouble on my part then..... :shades:
Yup, circa 1935, the same vintage as the MG-PA.

Clearly a posed image as both headlights are closed at the same time; British auto-electrical circuits left something (usually a lot) to be desired!
