That's a Toyota Corona, probably a 1970 or so....Looks good, most are rusted out by now....

Yup, it was 'Yoda's first major success.

Friend's mom had a Corona, unusual for 1970 Cincinnati.

    Great little car, though.
  • wgraferwgrafer Member Posts: 592
As usual, I could be wrong, but I bought a '70 Corona new, and as I recall, it did not look like this!
I believe this is a '69. The '70 did not have front vent windows, the front end was different, etc.

    G'day

I think it is a 1964-69 Toyota Crown Mk II.

    Sales Brochure here.

Aw, what does HE know? We are the experts here! ;)

His selling price is hysterically funny. Don't people look at price guides?
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,492
Fun car - drive it at all and destroy whatever value it does have. Toyota should buy it and put it in a museum.
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,129
Turns out they're both right, the older model went through early 1970, so there are TWO "1970 Coronas". Go figger...
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
Yes but we are more right because we know there are two :P

Looks like a Alfa Romeo Arna SL, mid 80's....Nissan partnered on this model....Arna stood for Alfa Romeo Nissan Autoveicoli....

Like it says on the Front and Side: Plymouth Fury.

    I'll guess 1964-65.

    1963 Plymouth Fury

Too bad they didn't put the year on there. Lemko's right, it's a '63 Fury with the legendary 426 Max Wedge under the hood

Looks like a '55 Chevy Conv, '53 ford, '54 Buick, another '55 Chevy, and further back another Chevy, an Olds, another Ford, a Mopar, and way back maybe a '50 Ford....
  • bhill2bhill2 Member Posts: 2,602
The white Chrysler on the right looks like a '56. That is the newest model I see, which sets the early end of the time frame for the picture. Anyone see anything newer?

2009 BMW 335i, 2003 Corvette cnv. (RIP 2001 Jaguar XK8 cnv and 1985 MB 380SE [the best of the lot])

No, nothing newer than the '56 Chrysler, but I sure don't see any Oldsmobiles. The white 2-dr hardtop parked on left looks like a '56 Buick to me...

Nope the picture was taken in '56 but it's odd how many '55 Chebbies show up. It appears that the top on that two-tone Bel Air 'vert already looks worn and discolored. I'd pitch a fit if I had a top look that bad in just a year.

I think the big truck is a GMC, or possibly a Chevy.

Yeah, but you would probably at least wash it once in a while. The whole thing looks filthy.....check the rest of the car......

I recall GM ragtops always being chintzier than its competitors. Did you ever notice how they'd bubble up during fast driving? They weren't as taut as Ford or Chrysler tops.
  • jwilliams2jwilliams2 Member Posts: 910

I agree. But the only convertible I had in the 50's was a '57 Ford Skyliner. No bubbles in that top. :P
  • berriberri Member Posts: 10,165
I imagine that top was "taut"!

57 Ford's were very cleanly designed cars inside and out. I thought they all looked good; sedans, hardtops, even wagons that year. As I recall though, they had a bad case of tinworm which may have helped the 57 Chevy become such a popular used car down the road.

NO! No! Put it away! One of the nastiest mistakes ever made. You are an Italian auto maker, have a sweet engine and are fabulous at making spirited cars with shocking build quality. So you go to a Japanese manufacturer with a proposition that they should design the car and you will build it.

You inherit the nasty Nissan Pulsar and screw a good engine into it, building it in Italy.

Whoever imagined that this would be a success was sadly mistaken.

    Cheers

Looks like a nasty old Fiat to me. Not the Argenta because of the twin round headlights, so it's an earlier 132 which has the same body shape.
I don't know them well enough to get the year accurately so I'll guess at late seventies?

No, it's definitely a Buick. Take another look. Check out the side molding shape swooping from the front down to just in front of the rear wheel and then over the rear wheel well on to the rear. No Olds had that shape.

They called it a "Sweep Spear" but I can't make it out on that car. It could certainly be a Buick but without a clear Buick cue I still think it's an Olds ('55 or '56).

Late seventies is a good guess they stopped making them in '81.

Actually a very pleasant car to dive but build quality...

The year is mysterious. There is some way to tell them by whether they had round lights with all same size, inner ones smaller, inner ones larger or rectangular (the prettiest).

They had a peculiar habit of trim pieces falling off in your hand

    Cheers

    1960 Plymouth Belvedere convertible
    1960 Plymouth Suburban station wagon
1957 Ford Custom or Custom 300
    1960 Chevrolet Impala convertible
    1960 Plymouth Suburban station wagon
    1957 Oldsmobile
    1955 Chevrolet Bel Air
    1958 Buick Special

I think I can make out the roof of a 1958-60 Ford Thunderbird in the background near the building.

Don't think it's a square bird. The rear side window is way too big. Could be a Galaxie though.

Sorry Lemko, you usually nail those 50s-60s cars but Berri is right, those are '59 Plymouths.
