I bet the car is highly waxed and he's not wearing shoes and the tires are inflated to 92 psi. :P Man, this is livin' on the edge!

This is a wagon version of the Trabant 50 replacing the Zwickau P70 in about 1959 - the more familiar shaped, later Trabant is the car parked next to it. Can't be that many in Maryland...
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Yup, it's an FSO Trabant P50.

an ex-gf had the non si version when new and yes, it was like driving a topless Civic. She liked it though and I liked her so her choice in cars was the least of my concerns.

Hard to believe this was the replacement in the line up for the much loved CRX.

Exactly. It went in a totally different direction.

Somewhere on the internet I once saw a picture of a red Honda Civic with its side mirrors removed and replaced by small video cameras. I think that is what was done here for better gas mileage.

I like it. If it has close to the interior room of the new CRV (which I doubt it will) I shall put it on the list. i like small, but only so little my wife will go I think.

More likely, it will be CRV on the small side (or X3 if some unexpected windfall comes in) with maybe the next Sante fe for a "big" car.

FSO ? I thought they were Polish - whereas the Trabant was East German
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
My bad, the company that made Trabants was VEB Sachsenring AG of Zwickau, (East)Germany. Perhaps I got confused with the FSV Zwickau soccer team.

In the tight slot between the Sonata and the Genesis sedan, I hardly see the point. Just get a Genesis, it looks better, RWD, 333hp, and the same mpg on the highway.

I'm afraid all this will do is allow Hyundai to increase Genesis prices to create a price slot for the Azera.

I'll just take one and let others have the rest...the 63 Ford Squire (Fairlane?) at far left.
  • tmarttmart Member Posts: 2,399
Can't miss the 56 Bird or the Mercury Turnpike Cruiser. AMC in front of the Merc.
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
Why do I expect a giant lizard to step on all that? :P
  • tmarttmart Member Posts: 2,399
I could be wrong, but this might be Mercury and not a Ford. The tail lights don't look right for a Ford...but it could be due to being a wagon.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,397
ask lexus about the ES and GS.

some people want bigger/more luxurious but don't want the RWD experience (ask TJ about that!). think Avalon here.

so, similar size, maybe price, but covering both ends of the spectrum.

I think a lot of people expected Genesis to be a separate brand, but the coupe isn't really nice enough to belong to an upscale brand, and 2 models are not enough.

Is it a 1961 Ford Wagon with the "ears" above the taillights?

They look round to me, but it's a small pic.

Rear side windows don't wrap around, which is what makes me think Fairlane.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
IMCDB sez the wagon is a '63 Ford Fairlane Squire. Here's a better look>

    image

I don't think anyone has ID'ed the two-tone parked next to the Fairlane...'56 Mercury Monterey?

I was thinking 1955 Mercury. Can't tell if it's Montclair with the "armrests" outside the windows on the doors or a Monterey coupe.

Next to the T-Bird are a '63 Plymouth and a '61 Rambler. Did anyone get the year of the red Mercury Turnpike Cruiser?? I think it is most likely a '58 (although there were a few '57s with the bug-eye addition for quad headlights).
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
IMCDB calls the Turnpike Cruiser a '57 and they say the Rambler is a '60, they think the Plymouth is a '63 and the tu-tone Merc is a '55 Monterey.

Rambler's a '61, wrong tail lights for a '60. How do I know? That's Grandma's car! Always something good from the bakery when that car was in our driveway :)
  • lostwrench1lostwrench1 Member Posts: 1,165
I'll go with a 61. The 60 had a two piece rear bumper.

Rather beat-up 1962 Ford Galaxie, black 1963 Chevrolet Impala, 1955 Ford, 1965 Pontiac LeMans or GTO, 1961 Ford Galaxie Sunliner convertible.
  • wgraferwgrafer Member Posts: 592
Lemko - Better take a closer look (through the '62) at the tail lights on your "1955" Ford!!!!!!!
  • tmarttmart Member Posts: 2,399
    It's a 56.

Looks like a Hyundai Pony, I am guessing the 1975 original.

Canada got an updated version starting around 1983 or so:

    image

These have been featured on a couple "Red Green" episodes (one I think where he tapes them up side by side to make a "Hummer")

Edit: Just found a pic...ah, what Ontario does to a car:
