Yep, there's a black Minor 1000, these were somewhat popular on the East Coast in the early 60s, esp. convertibles. There's another black car and two light colored ones as well as a blue panel van. Going...going....

OK, I can't place the other black car (on the other side of the gas pump). One of the light colored cars is an Isetta, a 300 I think. The blue panel van is, of course, a barn door VW van. I'm not sure which other light colored car you mean but unless it's the Beetle, I don't know.

Yup the light colored cars are a VW Beetle and an Isetta (presumably a BMW, I don't think they sold many Isos in the US). The black car near the gas pump
is another Dauphine, the little Renaults actually outsold the Beetle in 1959 (the photo is likely from '59-'60).

The VW Transporter van is probably the parts runner for Imported Cars of Westport. Next to the Transporter is a phone booth and beyond is a blue car which looks like it could be a '49-'52 Ford or perhaps a MoPar of the same vintage.

Well, it's a M151 Ford Multi-Utility Tactical Truck (MUTT), and they were made from 1959 all the way up to 1982. It's hard to tell what year this is. Maybe someone has an idea?
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,108
You got ir, it's a '74 MUTT. It looked older to me...

That one was pretty easy and with low traffic at the time in this forum, I was able to sneak in with the guess. :shades:

This is going to be the new Ford Kuga in Europe, but not sure what you call it over there.

I remember LA in those days. In this case it must have been taken in or after 1964 (from the Chevy partially visible on the left). I suspect that the white car whose back end you see behind the van is of a '65 Chrysler, but I can't tell for sure. As far as further identification, I will take the '61 Chevy just to the right (picture view) of the van and leave the rest for others.

Looks like a mid 60's Voltswagon.
  • berriberri Member Posts: 10,165
Maybe around a 63 Dodge Dart, then a 60 and 64 Chevy on the hill.

Actually, the "Voltswagen" appears to be a Boyertown van on a Ford chassis. A local bakery and Mr. Softee ice cream used those trucks around here back in the day.

Since that Chrysler behind the VoltsWagon is a '65, I'd say the pic is from very late '64 or '65. And on extended view behind the Dodge Dart is a white '64 or '65 Mustang fender peeking out!

Looks like an early 80's Toyota Celica
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,430
That one is a Toyota AE86 "Trueno" (I can see the badge :shades: ), sold in NA as the Corolla GTS, impossible to find a nice stock one anymore. Toyota made something cool once.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,430
Something cool and JDM which will never be possible in the US due to prudish import laws
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Mid 80's Toyota Trueno (I can read the plate ;) ), it was called the Toyota Corolla Sport in the USA and fondly remembered by RWD fans everywhere as the AE86, which popularized the DOHC motor and drift-racing.

Yeah - andy saw the badge too - its a Toyota Apex Trueno, 1986, and the only one I've ever seen - not sold here, of course, although the Corolla it came from was in different forms... JDM grey import.
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,229
The first one is JDM only, so a grey import and again I haven't seen another although I think NA got something like this under different badges at about the same time.

Were not going anywhere else with this one, so it's a Toyota MkII X100 Grande 260 (I don't think it is known as a Corolla MkII). The X100 is the eighth generation MkII, I understand that it is a JDM only model which we therefore only see as a grey import. Here it is from the rear

That looks a bit like the Camry-based Lexus ES 300 sold in the US and Australia 1996-2001, Wikipedia sez it was the JDM Toyota Windom.

First-gen Chevy Monte Carlo (I'll guess '72), the only one I really liked, even if the fan shroud had to be, what, 6' long? :P

Hard to tell from the back, but it's a 1970-72 Chevrolet Monte Carlo - the first and the best. The little bumperettes on the back lead me to think it's a 1972 model.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
It's a 1970 Chevy Monte Carlo SS /454-LS5. They did a great job of disguising the side marker lights on those.

    That's what I meant - yeah it's a '48.

I did cheat a bit though. I knew it was postwar but had to look at some photos to find the proper trim on the hood.

Porsche 924. I don't think those wheels were standard ... did they come from a 928?

The 924 was released in '76 or '77 here in the US. I remember doing a school project on it when I was in 8th grade ('77-'78).

Cd of 0.36, which was really slippery at the time, IIRC.

I think that's the 924S, which was the last 924, a 944 engine in a 924 body, which would make those wheels stock.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 265,955
I think those wheels are stock.... they called them "phone dials"..

The FT-86 will be called the GT 86 in some markets, a tip of the hat to the 2000GT and that AE86.

To be fair, though, Subaru deserves the credit.

I thought the 924S had the lace type alloy wheels.

Correct on all counts, The "phone dial" wheels were exclusive to the 924S which was essentially a 944 with the 924 body. I came close to buying one in 1987. Those wheels were the same pattern as used on the 928.

The pictured car is a Euro model, lacking the round side markers used on US versions.
