Hemmings says it's an '86 Honda Prelude Si but from that angle it's identical to an'83-'87.

'65 or '66 Rambler Ambassador. I'm going to say '66 but right now I can't think about what the differences are.

I always thought (and really didn't like) how the front and rear doors on these cars look just like 180-degree-reverse images of each other, in 'cut'.

The doors might in fact be interchangeable---it's a cost-cutting measure that has been done in the past.

What we have here gentlemen, is your classic 3-box design.

    '65 or '66 Rambler Ambassador.

Yes and no, it's a '66 AMC Ambassador. IIRC by '66 the Rambler American was the compact in the AMC line and the Ambassador was the full sizer.

...and don't forget the "Classic" in the middle, although it looked really just like a cheaper Ambassador.

Ever see a '61 Ambassador? What's up with that? I always thought it looked like an Eastern bloc car or something...I mean, out there.

#31472 is an OSCA MT4 from the mid 50s.

OSCA was formed by the Maserati brothers after they lost control of the company that bears their name. Most MT4s were built as open race cars with minimal bodies like this one>

    image

A minority got closed berlinetta coachwork for use as street-going Gran Turismos like the black Vignale body shown in 31472.

The white car in front is a Volvo 122, from the early/mid '60s, the convertible whizzing by is a '61 Chevy Impala, and the gray wagon is a Chrysler (I will say '60 but may be off by a year or so). It looks like there is something at the curb next to the Chevy, but I can't even begin to identify it.

I think that Chrysler wagon may be a 59. The obstructed vehicle may be a 63 Chevy Impala.

I call that kind of custom look "douched out". It's not as somehow fun loving as a donk, it's just jerky. I bet that thing handles and rides terribly on those tires and wheels.

Can't see the front-end of the last car, so I don't know the year, but it appears to be a late 1940s Crosley with a sliding convertible roof. The white car in the center is a Crosley Hotshot circa 1950, the red vehicle is a Crosley pickup based on the sedan.

    That be the Dart...
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
You's guys got it. That's the name Fiat bought back. Much better than the Duster or Hornet.

"Dodge is resurrecting the Dart nameplate, which had a 16-year run from 1960-'76. It is unlikely that the younger buyers who are undoubtedly targeted by Dodge would have much recollection of the Dart name. But it should make more sense than the Duster, which was a Plymouth model (it's also used by the Romanian brand Dacia)."

aaaarrrrrrggggghhhhhh - and I just read that and promptly decided to change it to Duster.

Yes - the Dart it is.

greeaattt... love when they resurrect old names for a completely different car. A compact, FWD Dart. :lemon:

You can get decent money for a Hotshot these days ($20K?)

A Hotshot won the first ever race at Sebring (Index of Performance type race) and actually ran at Lemans in 1951, and was leading in its class when the generator blew up. Properly set up, they could go 90 mph. :surprise:

According to the front plate it's a Citroen. No idea what model OR the last time I saw one on the streets of America (but there's one on the Mentalist TV show).
  • robr2robr2 Member Posts: 8,805
    Well it's a Citroen DS5.

I cheated by accident. I checked the properties so I could see the photo full size and it has the answer.

    I cheated by accident.

I like that line since I heard a lot of them while a grad assistant many years ago. Seriously, appreciate your honesty about it and I always found Citroen an interesting make.

    I like it.

Then again I'm a fan of bustle back Sevilles and Imperials as well as the whole Cadillac Art & Science styling.
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
I like this design because it is very 'coherent'. You get a sense of what the designer's "message" is. I like the "speed lines", the beveled side panels for muscularity and that little rear "haunch" suggests something about to spring. The front/side scoops are I trust functional for the brakes. The A pillar trim is a bit...how do say...french?

I think Fezo walked across it one year. Ah, here's one taken from our van:

Hope the wind wasn't blowing. Like the Golden Gate, they'll close it down to light vehicles in gales, or make you convoy. Third longest suspension bridge in the world, opened to traffic on November 1, 1957. That photo was probably taken on the formal dedication weekend on June 25-28, 1958.

That's the opening of the Mackinac Bridge in June 1958 and commemorated with the crossing of 113 1958 Oldsmobile convertibles.
