Another hint - it was made for over 40 years, and somebody's trying to revive it:

The only Belgian make I could think of was Minerva and they haven't made a car since the 1930s.
I got a short list of Belgian manufacturers from Wikipedia and figured it out from their but couldn't find any photos of the roadster in your pic. I'll hold off for a while to see if anybody knows it offhand (doubtful).

Since you got it, I'll let the other know: it's a 1948 Imperia TA-8. Here's some more info on that exact car.

    Here's more info about Imperia.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imperia_(car)
They had a 1 km roof top test track, like Fiat.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Besides the roadster the TA8 came as two door FHC>

I believe the Imperia's claim to fame as a marque is that it may be the first ever car with a fully automatic transmission, or so I've read.

    G'day

A Honda S 600. I know that it was front engined and drove the rear wheels through a chain drive (motorcycle heritage). However, I have never figured out how they routed the drive chains.

    Cheers

Not seeing your link Lemko, even when I paste the URL in the address bar. Could just be me though.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,492
    Nothing for me either
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Yup that's the rare Honda S600 in coupe form. It was seldom seen in the US, the roadster was rare but I have never seen the Coupe.

I imagine they routed the chains through the hump in the center of the car. I read that the tunnel for the chains was "sealed."

That's a Dodge or Plymouth of early 70s ('70-'73) vintage. That split grille is pretty distinctive but I can't quite place it.

    I'm pretty sure that it's a '72 Plymouth Fury.

I'm 6foot 3 and I tried to get in one of these once - it was ok if you weren't against a kerb and if the tarmac was clean enough to lie down on...
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,233
I didn't see the posts on this until today but I have seen a photo of that TA8 before - its in the great George Geogarno Encyclopedia of Motorcars. I thought I had actually seen one of these cars at the motor museum in Brussels about twenty years ago but I only took a few photos in those pre digital days and it isn't one of them as I have just found the rest, although I am amazed at what I did see that day and will go back to see the place again.

Imperia also built the British Standard Vanguard under licence from about 1948 to 52 - they had one of those at that museum.
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,129
Seems like Imperia did a lot of building other folk's designs, lots of agreements over the years.

FWIW, it's a 1970 Marcos GT 3.0 powered by a (British) Ford V6. Some were exported to the US but not very many. I believe they were fairly popular in Britain.

Yup, that's John Lennon's psychedelic 1965 Roll-Royce Silver Cloud S2 but the little 1965 Radford Mini belongs to George Harrison.

I once spotted Lennon and his family in a considerably less psychedelic Mercedes 300 TD wagon, being driven in Manhattan ca. 1980.

Good Story and that MB was probably his last car as it says in this article his memoirs state he and Yoko were looking to get an MB wagon:

    John Lennon's Chrysler

    He also owned this gem:

John Lennon also had a more inconspicouous 1972 Chrysler Town and Country wagon:

Surely that Rolls is a Phantom -either a late V or an early VI ?
  • bhill2bhill2 Member Posts: 2,602
Yeah, it must be a Phantom because of the suicide rear doors.

Thats the WaterCar Panther Amphibious Jeep. Gashtly is you ask me. Yeah it might be able to go in the water, but how is it a rock crawling? If I want an amphibious veichle I'll dig up an old DUKW and work on it.

lol, good job Odie. We were near "Duck" country yesterday passing the turnoffs for the Dells. Would never want one of those in my garage.

Did you check their website? Looked like they were flying, but I'd hate to hit some chop.

The DAF appears to be a 33 rather than the earlier Daffodil, I think.
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,233
If it wasn't for the German plates (which look fake somehow) I would have thought this was David Jannsen in Harry O ? Anyway, the car is an Austin Healey Sprite - probably a Mark III I think.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,492
Funny plates, from Hamburg, makes me think of a rental car as HH is also used by Europcar. Maybe they were switched off something else for filming.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,480
it is a DAF 33. Maybe they called it a Daffodil too?

Close, it's a 1961 Austin-Healey Sprite Mk. II (replacement for the Frog Eye). Not as distinctive as its forebear but still big fun to drive and it had an uprated 1100cc motor.

I don't know a thing about the movie which was a 1963 flick entitled Ferien vom Ich (Vacation From Myself). The rest of the cars in it seem to have been German with a notable exception>

    '62 Impala.

    I like '62 Bel Air Sport Coupes, even when they're not 409's . ;)

Rarely seen, bone-stock. They're the bubbletop on the '62 body.

I've never heard of the film either, but based on the two photos, I bet the guy in the Sprite meets a girl travelling in the Chevy (with too much luggage) - much misunderstanding, but true love blossoms, roll end credits....
