Long time ago somebody posted a response to a pic of one of those and asked if it was the rarely seen "Marquis de Sade model?" :D Shifty?

If I didn't say it, I wish I had. IIRC, I had identified it as the U.S.S. Nimitz.

I seem to recall that in order for me to fit in one of those, I would have to remove my head. And that makes it very difficult to see where you are going.

Toyota Corona. Later version of the first one I took a ride in.

My brother in law wrecked his Rally Nova and replaced it with a used 70ish Toyota Corona. The one pictured is probably late 70s.

According to Wikipedia, that generation was introduced in 1973. The previous generation was produced until 1973, as that was the iteration we bought new.

That's right, it's a 1978 Toyota Corona it's modern equivalent would be the ubiquitous Camry.

Is it a Holden Ute or a converted G8?  Would it be legal to register one here yet?
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,804
Damned cross posting. LOL. I also guessed Holden el camino, whatever it is called. Also wondering how it is here.

It's a Holden Maloo, the GM ute from Australia. I don't know the history of how it got to the US (didn't get a chance to speak with the owner), but I can tell you it's LHD and has a supercharged LS3 under the bonnet.

    Quite unique!

There were a few RHD Skylines at the show, as well. A Lambo or two, one Ferrari, a bunch of other high-dollar German iron, some classic and contemporary American muscle, and this:

    Yep.

Watched the owner back it in and raise the bed. Says it is used as a work truck - and, that it wears a plow in the winter.

20 years too soon for the market, and technologically 20 years too late. Subaru cracked the AWD passenger car market because they managed to combine utility, fuel economy and price into a functional package. This...this....THING....didn't.

sigh...why do *I* always have to do the British cars. Where's magnette?

This blivet is a 50-ish Jaguar Mark V Drophead Coupe, probably a 3.5 liter. Many trees were felled and a number of cows were sacrificed.
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,177
Yep, but not a 3.5 liter. More like 5.7, it has a SBC.
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
Oh, great, worse yet. Destroy the one thing the car could brag about--a quiet dignified elegance. I sure hope they put some railroad ties into that frame. :p
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,755
    Functional landau bars anyway
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
They were really a pre-war car, like the MG TC was. Once the XK120 came out, nobody looked back at the old Mark Vs. You couldn't give them away for many years, but now if in really fine fettle, a Mark V cab can bring pretty good money. A real niche market though. Wouldn't be an easy sell.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,755
I imagine it would be like restoring an early MB Adenauer.
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
In some ways worse, in some ways easier I suppose. It's a lot more primitive than an Adenauer, so that might make it easier---but no doubt there's a lot of wood framing in the doors and cowl, and that can be a devil.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,755
At least with an Adenauer cabrio or 300S/SC you might break even or come out ahead, I suspect the Jag is going to be tough if you do it to a high level.
