Finally got to drive an EOS today with DSG and Sports Pkg. Put a deposit down and ordered one with the Luxury pkg, DSG and Park distance control. It's white with beigh interior. Should arrive before Thanksgiving. I thought the turbo four had plenty of power and acceleration. The V6 should really move, but I don't know when it's coming.

I sat in the Eos with my wife today and she liked it a lot. We are going to go back there one day when we both have off and drive the demo model they have in stock.

It was a dark blue with kind of a cream or parchment colored interior with kind of medium dark wood. Looked very nice although the wood was too shiny.

I'll be glad when we get our Eos's and then this forum will get more interesting.

Test drove one last week--got my sight draft from USAA and will purchase on Monday when they're expected in. My dealer got three 2.0 (two manuals, one auto). I wanted the V-6 but it's not a real stick shift so I'm getting grey with grey leather, sports package, navigation system for about $34K. Can't wait!!!!
  • bigeosfanbigeosfan Member Posts: 1
How are you getting a Sports Pkg and NAV for $34k? Did you get manual or auto?

Is anyone paying less than MSRP? How can this negotiated?
Does anyone know a dealer in California offering less then MSRP?
  • eoslovereoslover Member Posts: 10
I paid close to MSRP but not under.
  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
So that means you paid over MSRP?
  • eoslovereoslover Member Posts: 10
The exact color combo and options were on the car and it was available now. I was willing to pay what I did with no regrets. I love this car!

Has anyone heard about the service directive from VW that the EOS should not be power car washed because the power spray may damage the roof seals? I was told of this by the service director at my local VW dealership. This just seems hard to believe you have to wash the EOS only by hand.
  • limiteddriverlimiteddriver Member Posts: 234
Power wash and automatic car wash aren't the same.

The most recent discussions about buying and pricing have been moved to the new Volkswagen Eos: Prices Paid & Buying Experience discussion.

Now that I finally own my Jetta, I'm sort of missing that car payment, so I'm thinking about the Eos -- I hope that those of you who've bought one will post about your buying experience so I'll know what to expect.

Actually the buying experience went quite well for me. I had previously shown interest in the Eos when the demo came in and they followed up with me when they got 4 cars in. It was the last day of the month and I was heading to a trip overseas the next day. I told them I did not have much time. Went in to take a look at the car, told them I wanted it and I would pay $x with trade and told the salesperson to call me if they could do and I would return with the check later in the day. He called and said they could do it for $1200 more than what I wanted and said, if they couldn't do it then I'll deal with it in 2 weeks when I get back. They called right back and said deal. I picked up the car a couple hours later. I think I came out with a good deal as I got over kelley blue book trade on my Audi.

Is it just me or does it seem like you can only get heated seats ont he sport package?

I can't seem to select heated seats and the luxury package.
  • flheatflheat Member Posts: 46
There are a lot of bugs in the "build your Eos"; yes the heated seats are part of both the sport and luxury packages.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,754
heated front seats are standard when you get anything other than the base model.

That's what's been attracting me to this car (other than the droptop hardtop, of course). For $29,990 you get alot of standard stuff like 12-way power driver's seat, heated seats, dual-zone climate control, mp3 cd player, cruise, etc, etc. I don't think I'd be looking for any options, personally. Ok, maybe I'd miss the steering wheel controls, but I don't wanna pay $3k to get them.

Since I'm not quite ready to deal with a sales rep in the showroom, I'm wondering if the moonroof has a shade (doubt it) or is it highly tinted. I mainly ask because living in Dallas I know from experience that without the moonroof sunshade, it would be unbearable.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,273
The specs on the VW website say the moonroof includes a manual sunshade...

There is a shade, the moon roof is tinted dark, and it is huge...also it tilts...This car rocks, I've had it for ten days.
  • limiteddriverlimiteddriver Member Posts: 234
Mine should arrive before Thanksgiving. Please tell us if you've had any problems. Another owner reported rain leaking in at the driver's pillar. Do you have Park Distance Control? TIA
  • rfeldman2rfeldman2 Member Posts: 2
So far no leaks to report, but I've only washed it, hasn't been in the rain yet! I don't have the park distance control on mine. The car handles great, I have no complaints so far. Bought it on Sept 15.

We've given up on finding a Cabrio that doesn't have some sort of problem....or seven. We were wondering where the Eos is made? Thanks.
  • bigchiefbigchief Member Posts: 6
I have not found one to try out yet. Are there any tall people out there who own one now that think it has good leg room?
  • flheatflheat Member Posts: 46
It is being built at the Volkswagen Autoeuropa plant in Palmela, Portugal. It sounds like it will be a high quality plant as this is the only major employer in the town and their livelihood rides on its success.
  • flheatflheat Member Posts: 46
Not only will a 6'2" person fit in the front seat, but his head will just brush the roof when seated in the back. I just had a 6'2" person back there tonight and he commented how much room he had.
  • cdgchicdgchi Member Posts: 8
I'm 6'6" and every so often my wife lets me drive her EOS. There is ample legroom for me and lots of headroom. When the top is down I have no trouble sitting in the back.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,754
I concur with the above. I tried one on for size at the auto show with the top up and down and was quite comfy (a bit over 6'5").

I didn't get in the back seat, though. With the front set to where I would drive it, there was no room left back there.

I am 6' 1" and there is plenty of room (though the top is usually down), just got mine Sept 30th so it's only been a few days. The moon roof is full cabin size so with the shade pulled back it gives an extra couple inches.
The steering wheel pulls pretty far back (just found out today) so now with the seat back it rocks, the seat goes pretty low so it feels almost like a formula ford, your shoulders are at door level like F1.
I was looking at BMW 3's or Audi A4 cab and after driving this I was hooked. I have a Dodge ram & Yukon so I didn't want another SUV but the mileage was not that great on the other cars, when the turbo kicks in this thing really rockets!
So I guess you could say I like it, my Dual Sport motorcycle is feeling lonely in the garage.

I saw that there is a paddle steering wheel for the eos, I have the triptronic so I wonder if anyknows if you can retro that wheel?
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,754
well, you really don't even need one made for the Eos. I read a writeup of someone who bought BMW paddle shifters and modded his Lincoln LS to use them. No LS came with paddle shifters, so it was a matter of tapping into the console shifter and running wires through the dash and steering column, cutting up the column to accept the paddles, etc.

The idea is they already have them in Europe & Canada so you don't need to butcher it up, it's plug and play.
I wonder if I can contact a Canadian VW dealers parts dept and order the pieces.
The install I saw for the Touareg just replaced the cowl, also the switch assembly, remove dummy switches and put in the real ones, then running a cable under the carpet to the trans, pretty straight forward.
  • esellsesells Member Posts: 18
Does anyone have experience with an online VW accessories site, want to be able to browse wheels etc.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,754
It would only be plug and play if the wiring was already in the steering column. And if it was already in the column, then why wouldn't it have the paddles? I think its a much bigger job than you imagine, but I could certainly be wrong.

Out in the rain today. It wasn't a hard rain, but the wipers were running on variable. No leaks today. I'll wait for the pouring rain on the highway before I say my car is leak-free. It was sitting in the rain last Saturday, there was water in the driver's pillar, but absolutely none got into the car. Cute splash of water on the ground when I opened the door, but dry inside.

    Couple of things to note:

    1. When you open the door handle, the window rolls down ever so slightly, and rolls up on...locking the door I think. Could be a source of any leaks.
    2. If you don't "double-tap" the top-down lever when rolling it up, the seals on the windows may not seal fully. Last Saturday I put the top up quickly when I arrived. Probably forgot. I didn't use the top today...and it's dry.
  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
The partial roll down of the windows is now basicly a standard feature on cars with frameless windows.

It actually prevents leaks as the window can form a tighter seal with the roof when it rolls up into the pocket in the top of the roof.
  • esellsesells Member Posts: 18
I just wish that there was an electronic detector in the handle that when touched it rolled down, sometimes you forget to open it slow and the window pops
  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
Yeah that has always been a problem with those style of doors. I had the same issue with my MINI for the first couple of weeks I owned it. It just becomes a reflex after a while.

Please don't get me wrong. I like the car and I think it is probably the best value among the retractable hard tops. But this really depends upon the body proportions and how upright the person sits in the seat. I know someone about 5'9" to 5'10" that sits rather upright in the back seat, but their head is firmly against the roof (but not uncomfortable for a short trip). At the same time a friend over 6' does not touch the roof and is comfortable (at least for shorter trips - don't know about long drives on the highway. No one I know would guess this by looking at the two people - that is they appear to have typical builds. I don't know of anyone with a front seat issue. It seems to be a nice car.

I agree, the controls on the wheels would've been nice but I got the automatic with the radio upgrade.

I've owned my Eos since Aug 16th and it's rained once here since in Ca. I have to say it did leak from the driver side A pillar! I took it to the dealer and they said it was missing some trim inside that area and claim to have fixed it. I also reported that when hand washing with a very light shower, water drops leak inside through the back passenger windows. They claim that a "few" drops are expected and "OK". I'm taking my car back to the dealer tomorrow to take another look at those back windows because while I was washing it yesterday, there seemed to be more water drops than before they supposedly made adjustments. It hasn't rained here since so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
  • esellsesells Member Posts: 18
We are getting our first rain/snow this afternoon so it will be interesting to see if there is any leakage. Seems to be a lot of water in the door jambs but that may be by design and it's not in the car upolstery.
    Tune in tomorrow
  • limiteddriverlimiteddriver Member Posts: 234
I think if I had a dealer that said leaks are normal I'd try to find another dealer.
  • limiteddriverlimiteddriver Member Posts: 234
    Has anyone added any?

The 2.3 is about to arrive. I got a call from 2 dealers to tell me the 3.2 would be here in about 3 weeks. Interestingly, I went to check prices on Carsdirect.com. They sent me to 2 dealers in my area who would sell me the 3.2 at $1000 UNDER sticker! The price quote I got for the 3.2 with the technology package and the nav system was 39.5K. Apparently there were none being shipped right now with the upgraded Dynaudio system. Otherwise , it is fully loaded. The only other real option is the sport package with the 18" wheels, and that was only another $600. Check out Carsdirect.com before you go to the local dealer. As a "walk-in" the dealer who agreed to sell me the car at $1000 under sticker was getting $3,000 over sticker for the same car!
  • heymjoheymjo Member Posts: 8
My dealer is telling me that if I want to install the nav system and upgraded audio system as an aftermarket it MAY void the electrical warranty. Does anyone know of this is true or is it just another sales ploy to ensure that I buy the nav system through Volkswagen? I would prefer an aftermarket, but don't want to take a chance that if there is a problem with he top and it is electrical, they will claim it is not covered because I tampered with he electrical system by installing my own aftermarket nav/radio.
