"One thing I did noticed that I cannot find anyone talking about is Honda has reduced the size of the engines in the Pilot and Odyssey from a 255hp to a 244hp? I haven't compared the performance of these engines, however, I am curious if anyone knows why this is since this 255hp engine was just upgraded in 2005?"
SAE just updated their standard for determining "hp" and the numbers were updated to reflect the new method. Nothing changed with the engine.
I think the engine is the same, they just got the information recalculated based on some new method of calculating put out by the industry recently. You will notice it with most of the new cars if you compare them to the previous year's model. There was some info on this several weeks back.
06 pilots are hitting the lots around the 17th, the salesman are working the 05's like they won't see another payday until they are just a memory. if you ask about an 06, they quote an 05. salesman told me they will probably be offered up $3500 from where you can get an 05 now. msrp goes up about $800. does anyone know what happened to market price when the year end transitioned for the ridgeline or some of the other models. i find it incredibly hard to believe they can get that much premium.
They can offer the 06 Pilot for $3500 more, but they will only get a few takers and then everyone will be back in normal sales mode. If they wipe out their inventory of 05's by heavy discounting you remove a big chunk of 06 buyers. The new features do not warrant a heavy demand. I am looking at leasing thus my need for 06 with hopefully higher residuals. Wait for the 1st few weeks dust to settle and I am sure you will be at $500 over invoice.
My wife owns a 2003 Pilot EX. I just saw the 06 Pilot came in to the dealer last Saturday when I sent my Accord in for servicing. Man, the 06 Pilot looks great! The tail lights look like MDX and I especially like the front look. The leather seats look awesome! Honda definitely listened to Pilot onwers' complaints and updated the leather seats. Overall the 06 Pilot has a lot more quality look than my wife's 03 Pilot. I'm just a little disappointed with the 03 Pilot interior quality . If I'm not planning to get a BMW for my wife that soon, I would be replacing the 03 Pilot with the 06 model. Well, my wife will roll down the 03 Pilot to me when she gets her new BMW.
Out of any major change to the 06 pilot, i really hope the dvd player gets bigger. Stopping and readusting is a pain . All rear passengers semm to complain to much about this.
That B9 tribeca looks to be the Pilots main competetor except for that 7 vs. 8 passnger seating. Its not easy to load up a pilot with 8 people. Someone has to be short or squished to accomplish this. Its a job more than a task. Does anyone else see this as a problem. Because the B9 is new, I pray it doesn't turn out to be a :lemon: .
The appearance of that Subaru is so mutated, that I strongly doubt it can compete with anything in the marketplace. It's just absurd to expect any vehicle that looks ugly to be succesful. The Aztec, as well as others, have proved that point all throughout history. The appearance of a vehicle is a major factor to its success. The Pilot will do well for the '06 model year, although a couple of extra mpg's for the AWD would have been sweet. The hybrid will sell great when it finally comes. Sorry, Subaru, but unless you're in Vermont or New Hampshire, the rest of the world isn't going to give you a second glance, especially in California.
So the Pilot has a standard subwoofer set in the rear of the cargo area, how does it sound? I'm a bit of an audiophile, and I wasn't able to crank it on the test drive of the '05 Pilot.
if you are an audiophile, you really won't find the stock EX stereo all that great. Its just OK. Not bad enough to warrant the cost and trouble of swapping in my book ... but I'm not all that picky, either.
'11 GMC Sierra 1500; '98 Alfa 156 2.0TS; '08 Maser QP; '67 Coronet R/T; '13 Fiat 500c; '20 S90 T6; '22 MB Sprinter 2500 4x4 diesel; '97 Suzuki R Wagon; '96 Opel Astra; '11 Mini Cooper S
So I test drove the 2005 AWD and liked the way it rode and handled but wanted to wait for the 2wd 2006 model. I was under the assumption that if the suspension, wheelbase, etc.. all stayed the same, the drive and ride would basically be identical. yesterday a dealer told me that I should come in and test the 2wd when they come in because they thought it WOULD handle and/or drive different than the 2005. They just vblowing smoke to get me into the dealership? Other than losing a couple hundred pounds off the AWD, isn't everything the same?
Earlier in the year, I had earlier heard speculation (from a Honda dealer salesman) that the 2006 Pilot stereo would have a audio input plug (to allow an Mp3 player to play on the stereo system). I have not read anything about this and guess that it didn't happen. Anyone know this for certain?
I just got back from the dealer and saw an 06 EX, Cloth interior, AWD. Looks nice! The changes are subtle, but I like them. Since it came w/o leather, I noticed that it looks like you can add XM radio, which I've come to love in my wife's accord. I was curious if anyone who's seen an 06 EX-L would care to comment on the radio display (w/o nav). I wonder if its larger to display the XM info, or in the Nav models they put song info on the Nav display when not in use. Also, has any one seen what the dash looks like at night? I hated the green back light and hoped they do white like in the accords. This is just my personal preferences, but I was just curious.
4WD EXL with Navi for 31900? Is this out of door price for 2006? Out Of Door price means: Vehicle price Including Destination, sales Tax, Title, Registration, Documentation, and all other fees. Which state and dealer is this form?
No, it is just for the car. With MSRP >35000 for 4WD EXL with Navi I think it is a good deal. It is from Mississippi. But I still do not know the invoice price, so I can not judge how good or bad the quote is. In addition, none of the Pilots are available, so this is just a quote.
Based on the ratio of the 2005 invoice price to the 2005 MSRP for an EXL-NAV, I would estimate that the invoice price for a 2006 EXL-NAV is likely to be about $31,700 (not including the $550 destination charge). So, $31,900 is probably within a couple hundred of invoice, which seems like a great deal this early on in the buying season.
What are the exact improvements to the seats? I did sit in an 06 today and it seemed that the seats gave a tad more room and were a bit more comfy. The old ones seemed to have extra padding that hit just behind my knee and moved my legs too close to the wheel. I am talking about 05 and 06 leather seats here.
I spent some time w/ an 05 Nav it while it appears to be a solid Nav system it didn't have any of the "additional" features that I found on other cars systems. Trip computer, displaying radio channels, etc. I believe the Nav on the 05 MDX has some of these types of features. Has anyone played w/ the new Nav to see how it has been improved?
Just went to my local dealer in Benton Harbor, MI and fell in love with the new 06 - Leather is high quality, with rich, wide (and straight) stiching. - Seats were very comfortable - 10" DVD is sweet - Standard fog lamps and composite HD's are cool - Front grill styling is just like Ridgeline ( adds some much needed style) - Clear rear light covers are hot and current - 24mpg highway
Just sharing and need some help on pricing this out (MSRP was $33K)
Never owned a Honda, drove and previewed (Nissan Path, 4runner, Freestyle, Explorer) I think this is the car for my family(wife)
The '06 seats are much more substantial than the '03, '04 & '05 seats; similar to those in the Acura MDX. The seat cushion is 2" longer which gives better support to my thighs. The prior seats have a tendency to become lumpy and misshapen. Ours are just plain uncomfortable; not enough padding. After two hours we're stiff. Honda is going to have to deal with this situation for certified used Pilots. No one wants a Pilot with misshapen & lumpy front seats. Dlr hasn't responded to my request as yet. It's simple to swap out the front seats. What is the big deal? I'll gladly pay for the '06 seats rather than continuing to suffer. Pilot is an excellent vehicle in every other respect except for those terrible front buckets.
Yes, they are using the same Navi system as in the Odyssey and it is a larger screen and voice activated. The full specs and photos were put up on Honda's website for the 06 Pilot yesterday.
Anybody know how we can find what the invoice pricing is on the new 06 Pilots. I see the MSRP and know that the 05 invoice was about 3000 less than sticker so I am assuming the 06 will be pretty close to the same...but before I start haggling next week, I would love to know exactly what that invoice price is.
Here are my calculations, and I think I am pretty darn close with the EX-L 2WD with NAV.
2006 EX-L 4WD with NAV: Base Invoice + Freight = $32,796
How I arrived at this number? Take the old Base MSRP ($34,320) and take the 06 MSRP ($35,245) on collegehillshonda website . The difference is approximately $925. .
2006 EX-L 2WD with NAV: Base Invoice + Freight = $31,146
How I arrived at this number? Take the Base MSRP for EX-L 2WD with NAV ($34,045) and the Base MSRP for EX-L 4WD with NAV ($35,245) which was on collegehillshonda website . The difference is approximately $1,200.
$31,900 for a 4WD EX-L with NAV dosent sound right. Is this freight included? The Invoice including freight for this vehicle is $32,346. Unless the dealer is selling below Invoice and dipping into his 3% holdback of ($1054)?
$31,900 for a 2WD EX-L with NAV sounds about right. The dealer's asking $750 over Invoice.
Hey, I could be wrong. But do let us know if $31,900 includes freight?
Can someone help me to figure out the invoice price for- 2006 Pilot 2WD RES? Destination, taxes and License? What would be the good price for me to pay for one?
I am very impressed with the styling changes made to the Pilot for 2006. I plan to buy a vehicle this Spring and the Pilot just jumped to the head of my list!
I'm wondering if they've addressed some of the common issues with the 05 models such as excessive road noise, door seals, sloshing gas, etc.? Does anyone know if they made improvements in these "under the skin" areas?
I may just have to wait on the early buyers to post their experiences. This forum is a great sorce of info for buyers. Thanks to all who offer their knowledge and experience to the rest of us! It's a great help!
I don't think so. They hide all 06 for their 2005.
And, I just visit a dealer in NJ today, they said they don't have any 2006 pilot yet,I have to wait at least 2 week, then I told them I can make a deal right now, if they make a good offer for 2006. After that, He said they have two 06 in warehouse for inspection and I can go back tomorrow to test drive. At the end, he can only offer MSRP less 500. Then , I say good bye.
Basically 05 model, you can buy $3000-$3500 less than the 06 model. For example: 4WD 2005 EXL Navi or RES for $28000-$29000 plus Tax & License. 4WD 2006 EXL Navi or RES for $31500-$33200 plus Tax & License.
Yes But IMO,only one year depreciation will cost you $3000 and up. And you can get a lot of new stuff in 06 model like side curtain airbag and etc..... Seems it is worth to do it.
Thanks. I sent the dealer an e-mail, so hopefully he will be in touch in a couple days when he is back at the office. I am looking to get an EX-L NAV 4WD. My estimate of the invoice price was a few hundred lower than yours. I took the ratio of last year's invoice price to last year's MSRP and multiplied this times this year's MSRP to get an estimate of this year's invoice price. Anyways, I guess we should know pretty soon what the actual invoice price is. Thanks again for pointing me to the dealer you are using.
I just started negotiating for '06 EXL, 4WD w/ Nav. The salesman just called me with an initial price of $33,995- just a starting point he said. Kelley Blue Book website has invoice for similar '05 at $31,421 and actual price consumers are paying at $31,732. '06 MSRP is $925 over '05 MSRP, so I figure if I add the $925 to the $31,732 for a total of $32,657 that would be a good price to pay. I'm going to call and offer $32,000 and see where it goes. I'll keep you posted.
For the person who asked about the outdoor temp., the salesman says the '06 does show the outdoor temp.
Thanks alexasha for the info. I was also wondering if running boards are an available option. I see side steps as an option but not the running boards. Anybody know???

Kinda like how Enron did its counting. They did the counting, and apparently 1+1 equaled somewhere around a billion.

Any info on warranty changes for 2006? Or is no info = no change?

Your price should be as follows: (Includes TTL)
EX-L with NAV 4WD should be around $34,162.38 +/- $25.
EX-L with NAV 2WD should be around $32,926.38 +/- $25.
Let me know how the deal works out.

I am not sure as to which state you are in. I am paying $700 over Invoice for
06 Pilot 4WD with NAV.
You can figure out as to what the Invoice price on the 06 Pilot 2WD RES would be. Refer to post #340.

Does anybody know more about it. What devices is it compatible with?

Thanks again!
