I have a question for this ordering process, if you are ordering a car based on the current finance/lease deals and then the car comes in 2 months later, are you hoping the finance/lease deals are as good or better or does BMW FS fix the finance deal once you order a car with a deposit?

    Hi all,

I'm looking at leasing a BMW and will be passing along numbers soon. Two questions before I begin my hunt though.

    1. With leases from BMW, is all maintenance included (3 years)?

    2. If I move, can I return my car to a different dealership upon the end of lease (Phoenix to Seattle)?

    Thank you!!

I take it you didn't get ANY discount. Even though the car is in "demand", there are dealers who will discount the car. The money factor and residual for 36 months and 15k miles is .00175 and 58%. Knowing Crevier, they will mark up the money factor. My suggestion is to shop around until you get the terms you want. If you already ordered the car, why don't you know any of your terms?

the dealership ordered it for me with out getting a deposit or me having to commit to anything. They simply ordered a car on word of mouth since i was a past customer

    Vonrauss:

I have been trying to establish relationships with internet departments, but my inquiries go no where. I get form emails back and little if any response to my follow-up emails. Is there any approach (or even specific dealership) that you can recommend me to here in So Cal?

    Thanks.
  • vonraussvonrauss Member Posts: 25
Certain dealerships are more inclined to respond to an e-mail inquiry than others. If you are getting little-to-no response, I recommend calling them and spending a couple of minutes on the phone (this is what they want you to do, because the powers of persuasion are greater on the phone). Tell them that you are VERY busy, and in-and-out of meetings all day, and that your preferred method of correspondence is e-mail. Once you engage them a couple of times, they should become comfortable with using e-mail instead of phone...

That being said, at the dealership where I ended up closing the deal I dealt almost exclusively over the phone. As long as you don't go in there an see them face-to-face, it shouldn't make that big of a difference when compared to e-mail. The main point is that you need to deal with the internet department only! So once you get that "generic" response with someone's name, call that person.

I recommend using something like Autobytel.com to set up you initial inquiries...

    How about 36 mo/10k mi?

Where do you get this information from (if you are allowed to say). I just want to give the dealer a solid basis for wanting the mf above. I appreciate all of your assistance.

I got a final offer for 328i coupe (sports, power seats, metallic, bmw assist):
    MSRP: $40,490
Inv: $37870 ($37,310 orig. inv price + $380 MACO + $180 training fee) Is this normal to add the MACO advertising fee $380 and BMW training fee $180 to the invoice price?
Selling price: $38,870 (not including acq. fee)
    Sales tax: 8.25%
    Terms: 36/12K
    Residual: 60%
Money Factor: Didn't say but I calculated to be around 0.00145
    Zero Down
    Zero deposit (current bmw customer)

Lease payment: $535.38 (incldg tax) monthly
Drive off in cash: $1800 (this includes acquisition fee $825 plus tax, tire fee $8.75, doc fee $45, 1st payment $535.38, and registration fee $318).
They are charging me $825 instead of the normal $625 for the acq. fee.

What do you think? $535.38/mth and $1800 drive off cash??? Can I negotiate further? NEED ANSWER ASAP!

    Thank you!

I think you miss calculated. The monthly payment is too high. What is the lease for, 36 month?
  • vonraussvonrauss Member Posts: 25
I agree with tcn2k. You can definitely do better.

To give you an idea, I bought a 328i sedan fully loaded (Premium, Navi, Xenons, etc) and put significantly less down, and my monthly payment is less than your's.
  • bmwfan07bmwfan07 Member Posts: 7
Ya the lease is for 36 mths. Yah, I realized the payment was too high. What do you guys think I should negotiate for? $500 including tax/mth or even lower? I don't have much time or choice...

    Thanks!
  • bmwfan07bmwfan07 Member Posts: 7
    Vonrauss,
Thanks for your comment! I read your success story and have a few questions.

    1) When you said Total Drive-off fee ~$870, was that a check/cash you paid that day? What did it comprise? First month payment and registration fee?

    2) All the fees you listed: the Acq. fee, Doc, DMV, and Tires, which was a total of $1023. Was it rolled into your monthly lease payment?

    3) Your cap cost $38700, this was base cap cost, right? Not adjusted cap cost?

    4) What kind of hidden fees will they throw in? and WHERE can you find them in your lease agreement?

    Thanks!
p.s. the car I want is kind of rare (because of the options I pick..leatherette but with power seats n bwm assist n sports) so not many dealerships have those.

    Hello,

I'm looking at the 2007 328i coupe with heated seats and satellite radio. I was wondering why the big difference between the web offer and the quote provided by my dealer. Is this a bad quote? I did not provide any credit info, so I guess the quote is preliminary. The difference is almost 5k for the term of the lease. Thanks.

    Web offer:

    MSRP: 37,270
Due at signing: 3,289 (1st month, deposit, cap x)
    Monthly: 389
    MF: ????
    Residual ????
    Term: 36 mos
    Miles: 10k
    Total Outlay: 16,904

    Dealer offer:

    MSRP: 37,090
Due at signing: 2,106 (1st month, deposit, other, no cap x)
    Monthly: 556
    MF: .00165
    Residual .60
    Term: 36 mos
    Miles: 12k
    Total Outlay: 21,556

    Difference between offers: 4,662
  • vikvaliantvikvaliant Member Posts: 4
The miles on the web offer is 10k and the miles the dealer is offering you is 12k. Here are the lease rates and residules for your vehicle:

    2007 BMW 328 Series 328i Sedan
    24 mo/15k mi – Residual Value 71% of MSRP – .00155 MF
    36 mo/15k mi – Residual Value 61% of MSRP – .00155 MF
    48 mo/15k mi – Residual Value 44% of MSRP – .00320 MF
    60 mo/15k mi – Residual Value 35% of MSRP – .00320 MF

Add 2% to Residual Value for 12k mi/yr and 3% for 10k mi/yr on all terms

"The miles on the web offer is 10k and the miles the dealer is offering you is 12k. Here are the lease rates and residules for your vehicle: "

Even if that were the difference, I could just request 10k miles, drive 2,000 more @ $0.20, and only end up paying $400. The difference between the offers is more than $4,000.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,590
    Possibilities..

    1) Taxes and fees.. Does your dealer's price include tax? Depending on where you live.. $1000-$2000.

    2) Selling price.. I don't know the selling price associated with the advertised deal, but it is most likely a discount of $700-$1000 from MSRP. I'd guess your dealer is using MSRP as the selling price.

    3) Acquisition fee.. advertised deal probably uses the $625 base, while your dealer is probably marking it up by the maximum $200.

    4) Mileage.. 12K/yr residual is 1% lower.. about $370. BTW, the difference between mileage allowances is 6000 miles, not 2000. (3yrs. X 2000mi.).

    5) Money factor.. the base money factor is .00125 on the coupe... Your dealer is marking it up the maximum amount to .00165.. That will add about $600 over the life of the lease. Edit: About $850 difference, not $600

I don't think your dealer is offering you a very good deal, but then... you already knew that.

    HI

I have been negotiating for a BMW328XI with the premium package, automatic, heated seats, and metallic paint. The MSRP is $40395 and the invoice is $37,260. The sales price is $38,440 ($37,260 + $480 dealer advertising and training + $700 dealer profit.)with no money down. Additionally there is a bank fee of $625, a doc fee of $45, an inspection sticker $10, and a tire tax of $10. ($1240 to be paid separate from the lease). For 36 months and 15K per year I got a lease payment of $545 per month which includes NY tax for Westchester (7.38%).

    My questions are:
    1. Is the $480 advertising and training fee negotiable?
Do I really have to pay it?
    2. Is the $700 over invoice a fair price?
    3. When I did the lease calculation I came up with $538.70 but the sales person said that I did not factor in that there is interest on the tax that I am paying over the lease period and that is why my calculation was not accurate(My calculation: RV $24,640.95 + Neg price minus RV over 36 months =$381.92 + Neg Price + RV taimes .00190 = $119.76 + NY tax $37.02 =$538.70). Is that a standard practice or B.S.?
    4. I am returning a BMW 325XI and will have to pay a disposition fee of $350. If I lease another BMW can I have that fee waived? Does it make a difference if I get the new car from the original dealer I got it from or another dealer in terms of not paying the disposition fee?

I APPRECIATE ANY HELP YOU CAN GIVE ME. THANKS
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,590
    1) Everything is negotiable.. That stated, at only $700 over invoice, your dealer may not be willing to come down any more.

    2) Seems cheap to me. I think the whole deal looks good.

    3) In NY state, the tax is calculated, then paid upfront (added to your cap cost, in this case), so the payment should be a little more, due to the money factor being applied... but, the difference is less than $3/mo. I'm not sure exactly how much the tax is.. ask the dealer, and that may account for the rest of the discrepancy.

    4) If your old lease is with BMWFS and the new one is, also, then you shouldn't have to pay a disposition fee.. I'd call BMWFS, in advance to verify.

What about the advertising and training fee of $480? Is that legit fee that has to be paid or a way to get more $ out of us consumers?

Thank you so much for your input. It is really appreciated. You guys do a great job helping all of us!!
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,590
Those fees are part of the dealer's invoice.. Evidently, you negotiated a deal for $700 over invoice.. You get what you ask for.. ;)

So, you aren't really paying those fees, the dealer is... What you are paying: The selling price of the car. Edmunds invoice + $1180 looks like a good deal..

    HI Again

Has the money factor gone down on the 328XI sedan? I am using .00190 but I see .00155 and .00125 for the coupe.

    Thanks again for your help.
  • orangeman70orangeman70 Member Posts: 4
The quote I received on Feb 17 from BMW peabody had a money factor of .00147 on a 24 month lease - 20,000 mi/yr. Roadfly.com has the rate @ .00100 for same at 15,000 mi./year
  • rxkerxke Member Posts: 168
    Hi

Thanks for your input. That is a savings of over $20 per month vs. the .00190 money factor. Is there a specific plance on roadfly.com that I should look for the money factor. The first time I was on it the site asked me to sign in before I could do anything.

    Thanks again for your help.
  • rxkerxke Member Posts: 168
Thanks for your help. While the 328i sedan and the 328XI coupe have lower money factor the 328XI has the .00190. This is a great site. Thanks again for your help.

    V. Good Tips...
You're right, some dealers markup Acquisition Fee. BMW Financial set it at $625, but dealers mark it up if you are not aware of it.
Same with floor-mats. They may tell you they'll throw it in free. Edmunds BMW328/335 Features says they are included in the base. If they get dirty or you need to replace them, buy from their store when returning your car - current prices are: $75 for all-weather, $125 for the new ones.
  • luvautoluvauto Member Posts: 25
I would provide more specific info to the hosts, so it is easy to answer. I've typically read questions like:
    1. Where are you buying from, State/City, etc,. and are the taxes included in $668.
    2. Standard Fees: Acquistion Fee $625, Lic/Tag/doc Fees $175 +- 25. But, if they give you a big discount on MSRP, then...
    3. You can have them roll in Fees if you have a Money Factor(MF) of .00150 (3.6%). btw, MF x 2400 = %.
    4. You may negotiate to waive Sec Deposit if MF is higher than .00150
Hope this helps in the mean time you get help from the hosts.

    2 - Fees: Acquisition Fee: 825.00, Lic/Tag/doc Fees: 259.00, Sec Deposit: 700.00.
    3 - I think they used .00150, not sure…

    Hi again Luvauto,

I've also checked the data I've got with a lease calculator using the Residual of 71% and MF of .00150 (3.6%), and it looks like they are using almost the invoice price.
    Could you confirm that?

    Thanks!

Due to a change in careers, I am being forced to purchase a larger vehicle. I am currently leasing a 2006 BMW 330i with the Premium Package, Cold Weather Package, Sport Package, Rear Park Distance Control, and Automatic Transmission (the car has almost every option other than navigation). The car is Black Sapphire (metallic black) with Black Dakota Leather and is in perfect condition. I have 16 payments (BMW Financial) remaining of $445 per month (plus applicable taxes). I am looking for a down payment of $2,000 to take over the lease.

I'm just helping but Car_Man kyd please verify this.

    Claudiot,
Not knowing the exact Invoice, MA Tax treatment on lease, and Selling Price, i've made some assumptions. These are assumptions-you must validate. (1) MA charges 5% excise tax on lease payment each month (2) Selling price is $46,045 or discount from msrp is $1,350. I derived these numbers with some what-if secenarios on my spreadsheet. This matches your monthly $668 x 24 with 71% res.

If this is the case, I would lower my out of pocket and see if they can roll in the fees at the same MF into monthly payments. Or, ask them to give you $1500 to 1700 off msrp. See if you can avoide Security Deposit without raising the MF.

In my view, you are close to(almost at) a good deal, i say this because currently the 335i inventory is somewhat limited(the Bavarian party in Dec.)and it is 335i.

Hope you get it and enjoy it to the max.
    It is my dreamcar. :)

    Claudiot,
Forgot the most important insight - lease for 36 months instead of 24 (payments go down to $618, assuming residual of 61% and MF .00150). That's $50 less a month x 24 at least.
  • claudiotclaudiot Member Posts: 9
    Hi Luvauto,

    Thanks again for your help.
I think I'm doing something wrong on my numbers. I'm using the following calculator:
    http://auto-loan.interest.com/content/calculators/lease.asp
    Data:
    MSPR: $47,395.00
    Sales Tax: 5%
    Down Payment: 0.00
    Lease Term: 24 Months / 16K Miles-Year
    Interest Rate (MF): 3.6% (.00150)
Fees (Acquisition + other fees): 1,100.00
    Residual: 71%
    Sec. Deposit: 700.00
    Monthly payment: 668.00

I need to reduce the purchase price to almost the invoice to get the monthly payment of $668.00. Maybe I'm using a bad calculator?

    Thanks!

    Heloo Car-Man and Kyfdx:

Looking to get some feedback on this deal I have received after negotiating with a Washington state dealer. Not the best deal (in my opinion), here it is:

    --------
Selling Price: $34,243 (about $1300 over invoice; about $1400 under MSRP)
MF: 0.00195 (too high despite $450 in sec dep)
Acq Fee: $825 (marking up to the max )
    Cap Cost Reduction: say $1500
    Monthly: $469 (incld tax)
Cash down: $2780 (incld first monthly + sec deposit $450 + fees + tax on cap cost)
    Term: 24 mo/12k
    Residual: 73%

None of the area dealers are willing to negotiate further on MF and Selling Price.

How does the offer look? Any feedback would be much appreciated.

    Thx
