    looking Ng at both the 2018 and 2019 Volvo V90 T6 r design 24/15k and 36/15k. I’m located in the 46032 zip code. But I’m shopping nationwide due to scarcity. MF and RV? Dealer states the following 

    For a 36/15k lease, the residual is 56% and the money factor (buy rate) is .00139.

    Dealer had given me an updated purchase quote after I reminded them of A-Plan pricing...

    +80 Doc Fee
    +8.75 Tire/Battery/MVWEA
    +523 CA DMV (est.)

    Dealer also quoted me - "MF on lease is .00079, residual is 52%, or $29,619.20"


    My math from Edmunds Calculate Your Own Lease Payment page...

    1. Sticker price (MSRP) of the car $56960

    2. Times the residual value percentage x 0.52

    3. Equals the residual value = $29,619.20

    4. Negotiated selling price of car $44431 (A-Plan)

    5. Add in fees + $662.75 (from above, no CA tax)

    6. Add lines 4 and 5 to get gross capitalized cost = $45093.75

    7. Subtract your down payment and rebates - $1000
    ($3000/4000/5000 are amounts dealer quoted initially for lease down payment)
    (First payment (~450) + DMV (~525) = I'll call it $1000 down)

    8. This is your adjusted capitalized cost = $44093.75

    9. Subtract the residual value from adjusted capitalized cost. This is your depreciation amount.
    $44093.75 - $29619.20 = $14474.55

    10. Divide the depreciation amount by number of months in your lease. This will be your base payment.
    $14474.55/36 = $402.07 (346.52 w/3000 down)

    11. Add the adjusted capitalized cost and the residual value. Take the sum and multiply it by money factor. This is your monthly rent charge.
    ($44093.75 + $29619.20 = 73712.95) x 0.00079 = $58.23
    ($44093.75 + $29619.20 = 73712.95) x 0.00029 = $21.38

    12. Add the rent charge to your base payment to get your pretax lease payment
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~1000 down~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    $402.07 + $58.23 = $460.30 (1000 down x .00079)
    $402.07 + $21.38 = $423.45 (1000 down x .00029)

    $346.52 + $56.65 = $403.17 (3000 down x .00079)

    So, I think I've learned that I need to tell them that I want to put down $1000 to cover First Lease Payment and DMV Fees (payment drops ~$30 per $1000 down)

    And I need to negotiate the MF down from .00079 :-)

    And it's a 2018 V90 T5 Inscription in Pine Grey w/Amber interior, w/20s and a few little options.
    And yes, I want it :-)

    Maybe I should ask for mud flaps and PoleStar.

    Your first set of numbers is a purchase quote. Note the tax amount.
    For a lease, CA taxes the monthly payment. (as you noted)
    Also, no mention of the $695 acquisition fee (often marked up to $995)

    I would guess that A-Plan price already includes all incentives. Be sure to ask the dealer.
    They are marking up the money factor by .00050.

    Leave out the DMV fees, as you want to pay them upfront.
    Don't enter any money down, or rebates.

    Take the negotiated price and add the $695 acquisition fee
    Then, do you calculations from that price. ($45126)

    At lease signing, 1st payment (including 9.5% tax) + $662.75 in fees
    $453/mo.+tax = $496.mo. with $1159 due at signing. (using .00029 base MF)

    Tell them you don't appreciate them marking up the financing. You expected better, as an A-Plan customer. ;)

    If you get rebates, to be subtracted from the negotiated price, so much the better.

    Just an update on the above.

    You had mentioned that Volvos don't lease very well.

    Working with the dealer, the lease incentives were limited as opposed to A-Plan purchase incentives, rebates, etc.

    Ended up purchasing the one I wanted right off the showroom floor. That was kinda cool! In CA, we're lucky enough to have wagons available, as opposed to having to order one (non CC).

    Anyway, thank you again for your help.
