My point about the magazine test cars are; a fine tuned vehicle, approx ET's (corrected), professionally driven, all make these tests a Sham. No M5 will beat a 06 ZO6 (500+ hp) Vette in any form, drag strip or road course. The Vette is a true 11 sec 1/4 mile car, 1.2 G on the skid pad and probably the best Vette ever built! The SRT-8 GC doesn't compare with either vehicle in the 1/4 mile as a 13 sec 1/4 mile ET is probably accurate but the 0 to 60 times will run with the M5, not the Vette. The Vette is probably a 3 sec, 0 to 60 car (in first gear only) and a 198 mph top speed. It cost $72K and sold locally at sticker price so it is almost twice the price of the SRT-8 GC and is in a completely different class as a SUV Truck. The beauty of the GC SRT-8 is the German technology in parts of the drive train. My GC Window Sticker says it is 73% American made. (German transmission, Engine assembled in Mexico, Canadian too) A true "Hemi under Class"! Gene :D

No one was crying about the SRT8 taking too long. If you'd go back and read my original e-mail about shipments, my complaint was that according to D-C the car had shipped, but no one could (or would) tell me where it was, why it was delayed, or even aproximately when it would arrive. Since I live less than 40 miles outside of Detroit, it wasn't due to shipping time. I asked if anyone knew about a delay due to a service problem. "Y'all" need to read the postings more carefully before you reply.

For anyone that is interested, I found out late yesterday from someone that I know at D-C that the car is back "in transit" and should be at the dealer tomorrow or Thursday. I'll drive it then and make up my mind.

By the way, there are unsold SRT's around, as there is a dealer about 30 miles from me that as of last week had three of them. Unfortunatly they all have the DVD player which takes up rear leg space and (I think) is a pretty useless option in that vehicle.

I'm still very happy with mine and don't plan on selling it anytime soon! I'm glad the other ones that were in shipping limbo are being shipped? More on mine later as break-in miles are in process. (Owners manual says 300 miles) I'll probably put 500 miles just to be sure and change the engine oil and filter. My dealer is awesome as he gave me a lots of free incentives as this is my 5 th vehicle bought there. Good Motoring. Gene :D

Hello Everyone I was wondering I am a person that loves road trips. I drive from New York to Tennesse (920 miles) at least once a year. I was wondering: are gas station stops frequent? Because I like to drive at night and going through the south most gas stations are closed at night. :confuse: :confuse:
  • 2002svtf1502002svtf150 Member Posts: 30
Most Interstate Gas stations are open 24/7, even here in the south, really. You will have no problems on the highway averaging 300+ miles to the tank.

After putting almost 200 more miles this weekend my love for this vehicle only grows! Excellent power response, smart headlight system, navigation system, comfort level, and just ground pounding power, many thumbs up from other drivers! Gas mileage isn't too good but this is in response to all the heavy power pulls. I hope to finish the rest of the break-in this weekend. The ride isn't much more choppy then my 02 Overland and the other road noise is about the same. My wife just loves this vehicle as much as me. Folks, you won't ever be sorry for buying this vehicle. Happy Motoring! Gene :D

It may be hard to believe, but the GC SRT8 that I have been waiting for and was "shipped" on January 30 and then was "shipped" last Monday and ABSOLUTELY promised that it would arrive at the dealer by last Thursday at the latest, has STILL not arrived. It seems to be lost somewhere in shipping. It's unbelieveable that D-C has parking lots full of thousands of unsold vehicles (you can see them all over the Detroit area) and they just can't seem to get them to the dealers.

When looking up info on the Jeep SRT8, I found some links to info on the 2007 model? Does one exist? Does anyone know the differences compared to the hard to find 2006 ones? I am planning to buy this today (literally) but won't if there is some 2007 around the corner with some more features!

    For example

I have been to 5 dealers in the San Francisco Bay area and they don't seem to have any SRT8 Jeeps. Some have been ordered for months? Yet, I see SRT8 on East Coast and Mid West. Does anyone know why the problem?

Also, is anyone getting the SRT8 for much less than MSRP?
  • srt8fansrt8fan Member Posts: 24
They are far and few in between here in Florida. They seem to be charging a $5k premium on top of MSRP - putting the price at 50,500 range depending if you go for Inferno Red or Silver, Black (red commands an additional couple hundred premium and I think it is worth it) - they can work a bit on the price, not much though and Jeep has no incentives on the SRT8. If you name your lease terms (36, 39, 48, etc), down payment and monthly payment figure and they typically try to meet you if you are within $40 bucks or so of what the lease calculators say.
  • cuppy1cuppy1 Member Posts: 28
As I stated in my post #19, I ordered a Inferno red one for $360. over dealer invoice here in south central PA. There are dealers willing to deal but you have to shop around. I have a jeep dealer 2 miles from me but he wasn't willing to budge off sticker price. I ended up ordering from a dealer about 40 miles away but to save over $2700 I think the extra drive is worth it.
  • srt8fansrt8fan Member Posts: 24
You are right, it all depends on the market you are in. I would find it hard at present to find deals at dealer invoice for this vehicle considering the low supply and high demand in areas like CA and FL. In Florida they only had 2 (An Inferno Red and Silver) on the east coast between Cocoa Beach and Miami. Glad to hear you got a good deal up in PA, I agree 40 miles is nothing. I drove 200 miles to get mine. :-)

Anyone know of a dealership in the Southeast selling these at MSRP or less? Got a "quote" from a Rick Hendrick's dealership in Charleston, S.C. for $ 5,000 over MSRP. They said that's what they sold their first one for and have four more on the way. Don't you just love the greed of car dealers? Overall, American cars are on the ropes right now but let's not let that get in the way of ripping off the customer at every opportunity, right?

I can see the walls of the GM, Ford and Chrysler (aka Daimler) buildings shaking on their foundations. Oh well,
back to topic. This Jeep fever will pass.

I'm picking my Jeep GC SRT8 later this afternoon. I got mine at about $1,200 under invoice, but I had to strongly remind the dealer that I had purchased or leased 6 vehicles from them in the past 8 years and was going to need two more next year. On one hand I can't blame them for wanting to make a buck where they can, however any dealer selling for a premium over MSRP should be banned from the business and be hung. THAT is pure greed and very shortsighted.

Not surprisingly there are some GC SRT8's at dealers around in this area, but then I'm in metro Detroit. I believe that the dealers here are getting MSRP at best, and I don't think that anyone around Motown would make the mistake of paying over MSRP. Everyone here knows someone either in the automotive business or with an in the business and knows how to get a vehicle at a reasonable price.

My choice came down to the GC SRT8 or the Cadillac STS-V, which is a very good car. As they are totally different vehicles, the choice was very difficult. The Caddy dealer made the choice even more difficult, as they were MUCH more flexible on price and acted like they really wanted the business. I chose the SRT8 simply because it stirred the HOT ROD guy in me...and it sounds WONDERFUL....not to mention the fact that it's better in the snow, rain and sleet...all of which we got hit with today.

Well, I ordered my JC SRT8 Jan.29th Two weeks ago, little disappointing that they had no idea who I was and or when I would ever get my jeep, but they do know they have my $1,000 earnest money. Just spoke to the dealership and the proper person to assist me with my inquiry: he sees that my name has been assigned to a future JC SRT8, but all he knows is that it is in "BG Status".. He actually asked and was hoping I knew what it meant.. He could only share with me that it is better then "D Status"..

Just curious if anyone knew... :confuse: Thanks Derek
  • 1finejeep1finejeep Member Posts: 29
To the guy who keeps talking the 360 over invoice have you received your GC SRT8 yet? In the past I know some dealers would tell people that so they would order one, but their "order" never came in. They would sell it to a customer how would pay more $$$$ for them.

Also, I see no reason why dealers can not sell a car for what ever price they want to. Like somebody else said they have to make it where they can since so many people believe that making a profit is wrong, even though we all go to work to make money and on top of that most of us spend thousands of dollars for entertainment systems in our house that have been marked up alot more and are out dated alot quicker.

I have now had mine for about a month and a half and love it more then anything. The only thing I still can not figure out is the funny sound coming from the rear end. Has anybody else heard anything out of theirs? The dealer says it should go away with time and they also have a oil additive they can put in to make it stop.

Hello everyone. I just started my account today, so I wanted to try it out. I started it mostly because I ordered my JGC SRT8 a couple months ago and I noticed that this is a great place to stay up to date on everything SRT related.

Anyway, I don't wanna rub it in, but I am getting my black beast @ employee price. And I also would like to say that it's pretty cool that we are even arguing about whether or not a Jeep can race on the same street as some of those vehicles that were mentioned lately. The SRT team rocks. I just bought my JGC Limited last March, but I gotta have the SRT version, and I also cannot wait till it arrives. And, it's already been mentioned, but what a deal, huh? Another good SUV to compare it to would be the Range Rover Sport SC. It is significantly heavier, thus slowing it down, but for the ones who prefer more off-road capability and a big name, they are gonna be paying 30K, or so more as well. I will say it again, what a deal the SRT is.

    Derek,
"BG" status isn't better than "D" status. BG status means that the car has been allocated but no build date. D status means the car has a firm schedule date for build. At the point of D status the vehicle will have a VIN number. So that's the set in stone point. After D is D1 which means it has started it's assembly process and should be on it's way. The first one my dealership ordered (for me) came rather quickly. When we ordered a second for stock it is moving much slower and still in D status. Also for everyone else out there from what I heard, next week the blue color will be available for order. Truck is awesome, love it!!!!!

Okay, since now a few of us have the SRT8 - has anyone found links or details specific to the audio details for those SRT8s with the Nav system? I know it is a Boston Acoustics audio system with a 285-watt amplifier and digital signal processing per some press releases and various articles I've read. However I want to upgrade the stock speakers - per the amps specifications what speakers could it run well? Or would another amp be needed and would it be a matter of just swapping/bypassing the stock amp for whatever new amp you wanted to replace it with? More important to me is to add a sub - anyone have any ideas as to the least intrusive way to do this?

I found this but for the previous model year - http://www.wjjeeps.com/audioupgrade.htm

My order is in BG status also. I placed a $2000. deposit on Jan. 6th and at this point was hoping the vehicle would be a little further along on its way to being produced. I will continue to call DaimlerChrysler weekly for updates. 800-992-1997. I would hope the dealer from whom I orderd the vehicle would not resort to anything as unethical as selling my special ordered SRT8 to someone else; but we are talking car dealers here, so I guess anything is possible.

Hello. I am first timer here.
Black GC SRT9 order Nov. 2005. Still in order status..I think. This is my 4th Jeep with same dealer. I have always leased or purchased at invoice or below, including all applicable manufactor/dealer incentives. My dealer did not mention anything about $3k rebates. I will inquire. Where did you see/read about rebates...?? Dealer did sell at Invoice....but I will inquire about rebates.

    thank you.

    06blksrt8-
Thanks for taking the time and explaining to me what I'm dealing with. I have no worries since I'm still in lease until April 30th on my current vehicle. Just hate waiting, but what can I do. My Fiance has seen two on the road, but I haven't been so lucky, the last one was a blk one and it totally caught her eye. she too is very excited.. Thanks Derek
  • 1finejeep1finejeep Member Posts: 29
The only way to have got the rebates was to order the Jeep for the last day of Nov. D.C. did not exclude the SRT8 G.C. since it was the middle of the month and they did not want to change the rebates then.

So I guess in a way I only paid about $600.00 under invoice including the rebates.

I've only had my SRT8 for a few days and have less than 300 miles on it, but I have also noticed a noise from the rear end. I believe that it crops up mainly around the 1st to 2nd gear shift, but I haven't had the truck long enough to pin down.

I love when a dealer says, "It should go away with time." Translation: "We don't know what it is and we don't want to be bothered checking into it right now. Please live with it a while and we hope it will stop before whatever is making the noise causes major damage to your vehicle."

Let's keep an eye (ear) on this and see what happens. Other than the 12.5 combined mpg so far (we knew it wouldn't be good) and a lot of gas stops, I'm having fun with this truck.
  • 1finejeep1finejeep Member Posts: 29
There is a additive that I can put in the rear end that Mopar puts out. Other auto companies put one out to, it is to help quite the rear end. If I know my rear end maybe loud in public, I would take care of the additive before I went out, so I don't understand why D.C. did not. Bad manners I reckon
  • fasjeepfasjeep Member Posts: 2
I really wanted the SRT Jeep and couldn't wait for the Mopar hitch. I used the Mopar 3500# standard GC hitch(1.25 inch).
Remove the bumper fascia, remove the exhaust hanger setup, the hitch goes on normally with four bolts, just as in the factory instructions. Save the factory hanger, cut off the nuts welded to it, and cut the lip off. Now you have a flat plate with no nuts or lip, then you have to notch to fit over the inner end of the square receiver. Cut off the ends of the two outer hitch bolts(these go exactly where the hangers actually mount on the plate, so have to go) Now fit the plate with two original hangers on the tail pipes and place assembly back over the two middle bolts and put on two nuts and you are done. A little Dremel work and the plastic fascia goes right back on. Not perfect but..when the factory setup comes out I might change to it. Gotta fish, can't wait. Thanks, Jim at Midas

In the past 3 months that I've owned this truck, it has gotten even better as the miles wear on. Aftermarket options installed:
    5" Gibson exhaust
Ceramic Baer brakes on all 4 corners
20" Black Gloss Wheels in place of the stock rims, also added Goodyear F-1 Supercar tires for more added grip(Same as the ones installed on Corvettes.)
    Free-breathing air box
    Euro-spec JGC clear taillamps
small rear lip spoiler for added downforce when cruising 150-mph.

All of this has added up to a 4.3 sec. 0-60 and a quarter of 12.5 mph @ 114 mph. That is very close to Corvette numbers and just flat out crushes Chevy's TB SS 0-60 of 6 seconds.

So yes, the 10k premium the JGC carries over the Chevy TB is well worth it for a number of reasons: Exclusivity, bragging rights, and out-right factory power that can put most "supercars" to shame. Can't wait for the PCM upgrade from Mopar with a claimed 550-hp. Can anyone say Z06 v. JGC SRT-8 Stage 2??

    blkhemi,

How about posting some photos of the truck? We'd all love to see what it looks like with the black gloss wheels and some of the other cosmetic pieces on it. Sounds nice.

    Hey Guys-
I got some severe run around by a dealer, on my GC SRT8, finally decided to get a 300C SRT8 while my dealer could not supply an ETA for the GC. Surprise, as soon as I ask for my deposit back, the wheels start tunring.

Long story short, there is a base GC SRT8, only add is supp. airbags. Sticker 40,555, agreed to sell to me for 39,500.

Let me know if you want to contact the dealer. Buyer beware, I got treated pretty bad by these guys.

  • kec8kec8 Member Posts: 141
No wonder they got flexible. I think they're going to have a hard time selling a base SRT8. Without the $3,100 SRT Option Group I package, there are a number of convenience items missing from a $40,000 vehicle.

    Such as:

Sunroof, Air Conditioning ATC with Dual Zone Control,Driver's Automatic-Dimming Exterior Mirror
Bright Pedals, Deluxe Door Trim Panel, Heated Front Seats
ParkSense(TM) Rear Park Assist System, Power Adjustable Pedals with Memory, Power Sunroof, Power Front Seats with Driver Seat Memory, Power Heated Fold-Away Mirrors with Memory, Memory for Radio, Driver Seat and Mirrors
Rain-Sensitive Windshield Wipers, Front and Rear Side-Curtain Air Bags**, SIRIUS Satellite Digital Radio w/one year free service, SmartBeam(TM) Headlamps, Supplemental Side Air Bags**, UConnect(TM) Hands-Free Communication,

If that vehicle is really a base unit, I think that they're going to have trouble moving it.
  • kec8kec8 Member Posts: 141
A note to those of you that have taken delivery on a GC SRT8 or are about to ....

My vehicle did not come with an Owners Manual specific to the GC SRT8, just regular Grand Cherokee books. I contacted D-C and found that there was an SRT8 manual and that some of the vehicles were shipped without one by mistake. My manual is on the way from D-C, but if you took delivery on your GC SRT8 and only got regular GC manuals, contact your dealer. My dealer didn't know that there was such a thing until I told them, as mine was the first SRT8 they had delivered.
  • clineboyclineboy Member Posts: 10
    Sure-
But keep in mind that you can get this thing for under $40k. Currently, the best dealers are offering in Texas (of the four known units as of 3/4/06) is $44,900. Some aren't even selling the units they have!

Let's not lose sight of the fact that even without that option group, these things are pretty nice and one of the best performance deals, especially for $40k.

Has anyone noticed that when you shut the truck off it makes this weird sounding almost clicking noise. Also has anyone else had a problem with their exhaust. Mine came from the factory with bad welds. The exhaust is very crooked.

    Thanks for the info!
  • jeepvetjeepvet Member Posts: 7
My SRT8 (Silver) order was placed in Nov. 2005. My dealer has no idea what I am referring to regarding rebates for the SRT8. Do you have information or a source I can go to? My dealer is willing to approach the factory with this information, providing I can come up with it.

Need your assistance 1finejeep. Thank you in advance.
  • clineboyclineboy Member Posts: 10
My 300C SRT8 makes those popping noises. I thnk it is the heat shielding around the exhaust contracting/cooling.
    clinboy
  • blkhemiblkhemi Member Posts: 1,717
My SRT had this issue bad before I upgraded the exhaust/headers to the 5" Gibson system. I do believe, tho, it's the heatshield expanding and contrating that is causing the popping/metallic noises.
  • blkhemiblkhemi Member Posts: 1,717
To everyone who's still waiting or who'd like to purchase a SRT, Chuck Hutton Jeep in Memphis has a fully-optioned Silver SRT that they're willing to part with at MSRP($45k). They may even do a better deal if the buyer is really serious.

Does Gibson make a kit for this car or did you have to get it custom fitted? Can you give me some more info on this.

    Thanks very much!

Expecting delivery of my JCG SRT8 in late April. I'd be very interested in seeing some pictures of the modifications you made to your SRT8. Are all these parts on the shelf or custom made ? Where did you hear about the pending PCM upgrade and when is it expected to be on sale ?
    tnx,
    "tufgcsrt8"
  • blkhemiblkhemi Member Posts: 1,717
Gibson does make this kit for both the 5.7L and the 6.1L HEMI. It is freer-flowing than the stock set-up, however it may be to loud for some peoples taste. It is , however, 50-state legal and CARB-exempt.
  • blkhemiblkhemi Member Posts: 1,717
I will try to post a pic asap. As to the parts, everything is available on the shelf. The Gibson exhaust, the Air-aid cold-air intake, the Enkeii black gloss wheels/Goodyear tires are all available through these fine makers.

As to the PCM upgrade, Mopar has said that it would be available in January, then February, now March. So I'm just waiting to see if and when it will be released. I've heard through various Mopar/DC sources that the 6.1 may get even more powerful for the '07 model year, which explains why the upgrade has been delayed yet again.
  • 06blksrt806blksrt8 Member Posts: 57
I can never seem to find the items you recommend. I checked out Gibson's website and couldn't find anything for the 6.1. Would you be able to post links for the exhaust and the intake? Also if you don't mind me asking what did they run you installed. I can't seem to find aftermarket parts anywhere, I was looking for the intake also, the only one I could find was the Hennessey. Thanks so much!
  • megasrt8megasrt8 Member Posts: 37
Gibson is garbage. Check Magnaflow exhaust and check GSM Motorsports for dedicated mods on the GC SRT-8.
    http://www.magnaflow.com/04sound/trucksound/jeepsrt8.html

Zoomers will have an exhaust system soon as well, and Corsa currently has a system for the LX platform SRT-8's (300, Charger, Magnum).

Forget Hennessey, their prices are through the roof. I know there isn't much out right now, but there will be soon - and that will bring prices down.
  • 1finejeep1finejeep Member Posts: 29
I will get the rebate code and let you know. It may take a day or two. If you have taken delivery of the SRT8 it may be harder to get the rebates. I will try to help has much as I can.
  • 06blksrt806blksrt8 Member Posts: 57
I called magnaflow and they said that it wasn't in production yet and they have no specs on it.
  • megasrt8megasrt8 Member Posts: 37
I know...probably not till April. But at least you can see they're working on it and have a nice video with sound to give you an idea of what to expect.

I'm having a custom one done next week down here in South Fla at a custom exhaust shop, and I'll post some before and after dyno #'s and pics.
Most likely once he gets the measurments down, he'll be able to ship the parts to you to have it welded up there - if the numbers are apealing of course. All his material is of the highest quality, but his prices are very reasonable - usually.

Gibson, garbage? Hardly. I wouldn't strap anything from Magnaflow to any of my cars. Had'em on my 2001 Z06 and they rusted-through the first year, despite being "stainless steel". As to the price, the kit came with everything that is needed for $660, which seems reasonable for a 5" exhaust system. I could've easily got a custom design put on it, but I live in the Northeast where we have some of the most strick emissions testing(besides Cali), so it seemed to make more sense to get a legal system installed.
