Altho I have been a car nut all my life, the only even remotely similar car I have owned was a '71 454 Corvette.
When I saw the Jeep TV ad for the SRT, I was hooked but frankly didnt expect to get one so soon. But my wife helped out by totaling our second car a couple of weeks ago.
She wanted a new American car and suggested the Liberty. Ha Ha. We went to the closest dealer and were told an SRT order would take 3-4 months.
We next tried a larger dealer nearby and surprise, they had one coming in a week. However I had to pass an IQ test of sorts first because the salesman and then the sales manager questioned my sanity for wanting this type of vehicle.
They did have a new model on the lot that just arrived but was sold. I agreed to buy the next one coming at full list if I was satisfied with a test drive, so they would allow me to try it. I did. I was sold in no time, and grinning from ear to ear all the way.
My car arrived as promised a few days ago. Actually they had another one also coming in!
First impressions after driving it: Its a blast!!! Acceleration is incredible. Handling is much better than expected. Mileage is better than expected. The ride is stiff. Driving on poor roads is not for the timid.
Overall, I love it!
The car has the Nav system. I really got a laugh when I noticed that the system was set up to display every gas station I passed. Is that a DC joke?
To all who are still waiting for one, its worth the wait!
I actually found a black SRT8 at a dealer in north texas and the owner is driving it as a demo and said he would not sell it till his miles are done, but if I wanted it they would take my name and number.

I'm planning on the SRT8 as a replacement for my 2002 TA Firehawk.
I have contacted sever dealers outside of the state looking for a loaded silver GC SRT8. I figure I can ship it or drive it home. Most of the places I called still have slots available for custom orders.
Any state I should avoid? Such as CA for additional emissions, etc?
Thanks in advance for your feedback.
There's a free dealer quote service on the main Edmunds.com page you can use btw.

I did find some good ones I think, here is the URL to some pics and info:
Variety of Colors
All Chrome (I like this one)
XL Model
Spin-Caps Link
Thoughts on the spin caps, factory replacements?
Thanks!

Soon to Own Silver GCSRT8
I had hopes you would call my dealer with the VIN #. I sent you a few emails asking to call me (mobile #). with VIN #. This would be more efficient, as the dealer can be diffcult to sync up with.
Look forward to hearing from you.
Thank you.
Tom (JeepVet)
Mobile (see emails I sent).
Thanks

Anyone else getting good recognition/looks from around your town? I know many are awaiting delivery, but I hope everyone who wants one gets one but the production lines keep these SRT8s rare. I like not having an everyday Beamer, or Caddy or Corvette or Porche. It might just be this South Florida area, but sticking out in a nice ride is hard to do, the SRT8 certainly allows this, at least right now it does.
I couldn't be happier. :-) Although I did wish this sucker had a 6th gear to smooth out my highway mile commute just a bit. I will say though being able to jump on the pedal at 80 is an amazing feeling. These SRT8 guys got it right. However, I would love a mod for the 6th gear, something where I'd have to use the shifter to get into when and only when I wanted too. Keeping it in D would stick it in 5th as it does today.
DC is keeping production numbers really tight. Some estimates have only 3-5000 SRT's to be made for '06. But vice-versa in Jeep fashion, the SRT's will continiue through the '07 M/Y, unlike the beloved but short-lived '98 JGC 5.9 Limited(fastest SUV in 1998, followed by the 360 Durango.) Fast-foward to '06, and the JGC is once again the fastest and most rewarding to drive SUV again, despite Porsche's best effort yet Cayenne Turbo S.
My Inferno Red SRT gets the look every weekend when I pull it out. Even from guys in Porsches 911's and Vettes. But the most fun is from the guy's in the overpriced/underperforming RR Sport Supercharged , Cayenne's, and BMW 4.8is'. The Jeep literally runs circles around them. I'm very happy with my purchase. I had the chance to purchase either the Jeep or a SRT-10 Ram QC for 2k under invoice, but insisted on the Jeep for it's easier useability.
Keep in mind, my dealership has tried everything. They took 2 PT cruiser convertible's off of Chrysler's hands to only cross their fingers that my order will make this months allocation. Instead, they put another order in for a Blk SRT-8 with all options and that it will maybe be here before my order?
My options are slim to non. I have called 3 other southwestern states to come-up with the same results, "Oh so sorry". I'm not trying to be a pesky hopeful SRT-8 owner, it's just that my lease is up in 20 days and if I have no car, I'm walking. Now, I could always lease my BMW month-by-month, but who knows??? I have searched library or Car and Driver/R&T once again, and I just can't see myself driving anything else on the road that will not give me regrets for not waiting "only 90" more days... Just venting and hoping someone is reading this message that can shed some light on my black hole.
Thanks,
-Derek
I get looks and stare downs quite a bit as well. My wife starts laughing when a car/truck pulls alongside and the passengers roll down the windows and point at us and stare us up and down for a good 2-3 miles. The exclusivity is great.
Red will definitely get more looks, but mine being black gets plenty.
Production 2006
Goal 5,000
Reality 2,000 - 3,500
Wheel concerns. Can only build 20 vehicles per day.
Searching for another wheel supplier.
Production 2007
Goal 7,500
Reality 5,000 - 7,500
Most likely, I'll extend my current lease and wait it out.
Thanks, Derek
I was parked at fast food joint where people leaving the drive thru would pass by it. It was so funny to watch, 90% of the vehicles would accelerate then spot the SRT8 and slow down. It was hilarious.
I don't have any immediate plans to do any modding, but I doubt I will be able to leave it Stock. I look forward to getting to know my fellow SRT owners.
Thanks for the option.
Lot's of people certainly do slow down and usually do when I'm trying to cruise on by. In fact it is kind of annoying at times - I want my own lane, but the guy in front of me is checking out his mirrors to get me in view, the car to the right and usually left of me are blocking me in, gazing at this beauty, they drive as slow as if they were on a cell phone... This is all certainly attributed to the fact these are rare finds on the road. I haven't seen another yet and I do about 1.5-2 hours of driving a day! The great stance and limited production makes it unique and that more special. I might be a cynic but would like Jeep to actually cut back production once all of you here on this forum of course get yours. :-) We are part of an exclusive club for sure. Down here nothing really stands out - once in a while you'll see a Lamborghini but that is almost a non event because we've all had a poster or seen one at an auto show, then you have the Land Rovers, Hummers, BMWs, Mercedes, Corvettes, just to name a few. Everything is a blur, nothing stands out and all is forgotten by the time you arrive where you were headed.
With this SRT8, even the place I get it washed every weekend or so spot me on the road (night or day) and start waving and honking their horn. A pseudo-celebrity status associates all who drive this precious vehicle - while I certainly am not a celebrity, the SRT8 is a superstar and it's that memorable to those who see it. It leaves a lasting impression and typically a desire for its audience to see more, hear more, and when the opportunity presents itself ask the owner all about it!
I am having fun everytime I pull it out of my driveway. I enjoy reading all your posts and your perspectives of this ride, I keep coming back for more. Hope you enjoyed the pics posted on Carspace. :shades:
