It is interesting that as the cost of gas creeps up, they are not increasing the percentage difference among the fuels--rendering the cost difference less and less meaningful.

Yes, I noticed that CR used a 20 cent difference, and the station where I normally fill up now has a 16 cent difference. Still, in the interest of unbiased writing, they should have pointed out the MKX runs on regular, like they did for the Cadillac, and when they're specifying the grade for the other vehicles, too.

$3.20 for regular? "My" station has it at $2.96 now.

Ford's retail sales were up compared to previous months this year but level compared to a year ago. Fleet sales were reduced again which accounted for almost all of the overall volume drop.

    Steve/Host:

How about new forum for Ford bashing where those who know more about how to run a company than present Ford management?

Then this forum could meet the intent of providing MKX facts, owners' impressions & other stuff that would benefit owners & potential buyers.

If I see one more post on brakes, sales data, or general dissing of Ford, I'm gonna puke. They've already been covered!

I don't think that the persistent outpouring of negativity on this forum is consistent with Edmund's goals.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Ok, I've moved the most recent thread over to Is Ford's End Right Behind Chrysler's?. Let's try to limit the bashing to that discussion.

hmmm, maybe the Where Is Ford taking Lincoln?? discussion would have been a better choice. Oh well, y'all should be able to manage fine. You can start some new bashing in the Lincoln one. :shades:

Congrats on the new arrival! My MKX now has over 4,000 miles and I can't find anything to complain about. Hope we both feel the same down the road!

Congrats on your MKX.... Just picked up my MKX today. Waited 6 1/2 weeks... AWD, Pewter w/Greystone Interior, Ultimate Package with THX & Sirius... My big concern was the brakes... So far, fine... The actual engage point is low on the brake peddle. Completely forgot about it once I went a couple of miles. Brakes no longer a factor... Ride is excellent. Very quiet interior except for my THX system which surrounds me with an excellent sound system... The seats are a little firm (which I knew from test drives) but not something that will bother me. The seat side/front bolsters are soft so you don't get that squeezed in by the bucket seat feeling. So, these buckets except for the minor firmness of the actual seating area, are great... The controls on the dash are within extremely easy reaching distance and well placed. Terrific... One item I miss from my Grand Marquis is the digital dash... Always knew my "exact" speed.. Not complaining, just wish the MKX offered it... Obviously, I am extremely satisfied with my MKX on the first day ..... :):):) Will let you know if that changes after a few hundred miles .... Does anyone know if Lincoln is yet offering (or selling) some kind of cargo area cover to cover personal items such as suitcases, etc ...? It would be nice if I can get something that matches.. I have to admit, that was a huge and stupid omission on Lincoln's part..

I was wondering what brand and model tire is on the MKX - anyone know?
  • akirbyakirby Member Posts: 8,062
Continental and Hankook for 07 (one for 17", one for 18" but don't remember which is which). Rumor is Michelins will be added for 08 but not sure which one they will replace.
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,107
OK. I thought it only came with 18"?
  • akirbyakirby Member Posts: 8,062
Sorry - that's correct. I was thinking of the Edge. The 18" tires should be Continentals for 07, most likely Michelins for 08 but that's not confirmed.
  • mkxawdmkxawd Member Posts: 22
I just got my MKX yesterday. 18" Continentals... See my brief review above ... Not sure at the moment what they are rated.
  • us002840us002840 Member Posts: 6
Took delivery of my MKX on June 12, 2007, which was built on May 30, 2007.

My MKX has Michelin 18" tires. Will look tonite to see what version. Brakes are extremely responsive and tight!!!

Just love the MKX so far - it replaced an '04 Linc. Aviator which provided HORRIBLE gas mileage, 14 mpg, and required PREMIUM fuel.

Short trip this weekend to New York, average was 27 mpg on the highway. MUCH BETTER!!!!
  • bromanobromano Member Posts: 6
Just wanted to add a few comments regarding our new MKX, too.

THe headrests in the front are extremely bad. Wrong angle, wrong size. We turned ours around it was so uncomfortable. Mileage into week three is about 19/mpg. Front seats bottoms are too firm... to the point where I'd recommend an Envoy if it's a real issue with folks. But the seat A/C is pretty cool.

So far, we're enjoying the vehicle except for the few items noted above.
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,107
That's good to know, I've always liked Michelins. I've been wondering if some of the less-than-stellar braking tests are tire-related, rather than brakes. Tires can make a big difference.
  • jeyhoejeyhoe Member Posts: 490
    27 on the highway? Really.
  • jeyhoejeyhoe Member Posts: 490
No, not me. I visited a friend over the weekend. She's in the market for a CUV. She's looking at the BMW, Honda, Toyota and Mazda. I said you should add the Ford Edge and Lincoln Mark X to your list. She laughed heartily and said "Are you kidding? I'll NEVER buy an American car."

Even though I think the E and X are inferior in some ways to what they could have been, I still think people should at least consider them. She drove the CX-7 and liked it. ANd she drives a Volvo now. So I guess one of my points here is that Ford had better hold onto their stake in Mazda and not sell Volvo in order to at least have a chance with some of these American car haters.

My other point is that my friend is a die-hard life-long Democrat who thinks Global Warming is the biggest problem we face and that George Bush did nothing for Katrina victims because they're black. In fact, just about all my friends here in California believe these things AND they're all Demos AND they ALL drive foriegn cars. OTOH, I wouldnt vote for a Democrat unless I was paid a $1,000,000 bribe (everyone has their price). Yet I own 3 American cars. And all these cars were built by Union members - 90% of whom are also life-long democrats. So what? My lib friends purport to support downtrodden Ameicans, blacks etc, yet they will not support them with their dollars and buy a car built by them, as I do. Quite a dichotomy I'd say. But it's true that these people will never again buy American. And most likely their children wont either. In many ways the American car companies have brought this upon themselves. It's a sad commentary.

Enjoy your Mark Xes and revel in the fact you're supporting the American economy and worker when you buy them.
  • It's MKX (EmKayEx). The Mark X ("Ten") would be a Lincoln concept car.

Supporting American workers can be done in any number of ways. Buying a Toyota or a Mazda built in the United States will benefit the American worker much more than buying a Ford or Lincoln built in Mexico or Canada.

And buying an inferior product just because it is built here was the basis of the American auto industry troubles. Even though American cars can now compete very well on the world stage, for too long they couldn't and didn't have to.

Wages and benefits went way too high in proportion to the quality of the product produced. Auto workers were making more money that people with advanced degrees. Features and quality were nickeled and dimed out of what could have been good designs, for the balance sheet. And of course the guys at the top got (and still get) compensation way out of proportion to anything reasonable, considering how much market share was lost.

In addition to meeting my driving requirements, I want a vehicle to offer competitive quality and value. I'd love to buy American every time, but I won't do that blindly.
  • pnewbypnewby Member Posts: 277
I think there is another forum for this, but at the risk of being like you, do your homework before making statements like you just made. The actual dollars back into the American economy are really higher from the US car made in Mexico, than the Japanese car made in Kentucky. Check it out.
BTW the forum is - Buying American Cars What Does It Mean?
  • I know about the forum, thanks.

And even though what you say is true, the auto worker does not benefit more. Fewer "American" cars would need to be built elsewhere, if wages were more in line with the realistic value of the work done.

    Greetings:

Tonight, 6/19/2007, I was finally able to step up and into my first Lincoln, a gorgeous White Chocolate / Charcoal MKX, with every option available.

I couldn't be happier. I didn't need it, but I wanted it. As someone at work stated, I could add it to my stable. I also have a '05 Escape Hybrid, and a '00 Explorer Limited. Not to mention the '98 FLHTCUI. ;)

I got a great price, seriously, and I had a deal breaker. The vechile has the front License plate bracket attached. I refused to take it, and would have made the dealer go 150 miles and trailer me a new one back, til he asked if I would take $300 cash for it, if i could live with that, oh and free pin-striping. I could.

Has ANYONE ever removed one of these before? I watched the Ford dealer jerk the plate off the front bumper of the Exploder, no damage. I just made 2 small plugs to fill the holes that were left and painted them to match the bumper. I assume it will be the same thing this way, was wondering if anyone else did this?

(When I went to make an account here, seems I made one when I bought the Escape Hybrid back in 05.)

I'll contribute what I can, when I can, but thanks for the posts here, it helped in the decision to get the MKX, and I am so glad, I kept saying as I drove it, "I just love this!"

    Re: Cargo cover

Lincoln's MKX home page lists Lincoln Accessories part way down the home page. They list a cargo security cover in 3 colors for the 2007 and 2008 MKX. I am not sure how they would fit it but they do offer it.

Michelin tires are: Latitude Tour HP

    Tread Wear = 440

    Traction = A

    Temp. = A

Tires are VERY quite and they feel marvelous on tight turns and curves.

    Regards!

Thanks for the info - they sound top-notch.
  • akirbyakirby Member Posts: 8,062
    What size? 17" or 18"?
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,107
MKX only has 18", 17" is for Edge.
  • akirbyakirby Member Posts: 8,062
And that's the second time I've forgotten that in the last week. DOH!
  • lateralglateralg Member Posts: 929
But you did remember that you forgot, so don't be hard on yourself. ;)

has been criticized for its weak brakes, taking, I believe, almsot 40 extra feet to stop from 60 or 70 mph...

Does anyone notice this with the MKX, as I believe it is virtually the same car, or is it???
  • akirbyakirby Member Posts: 8,062
The brakes are the same for sure. And it's only taking 10-15 extra feet from 60-0, not 40. Even less if you believe one owner's personal testing which showed 60-0 in the mid 130s.

I have had my AWD MKX for about 5 weeks now. I have driven 1600 miles, 900 city and 700 highway. Highway mileage has averaged 21-22 and city mileage has averaged about 15.5. Most city driving is in heavy stop and go traffic (30-45 minutes to drive 9 miles). Highway driving is at 70-75 mph. I'm sure these conditions are much more extreme than with the standard testing. The mileage does not surprise me at all. I've had similar experience with all other vehicles that I have owned.

Overall, I continue to be very pleased with my MKX.

Also, I can comment on a few accessories that I have purchased:

    - All weather floor mats. Nice and heavy black with deep grooves. Will be great during the winter months.
    - Rear bumper guard. Relatively thin rubber. Easy to install. However, I think this should be a factory-installed feature.
    - Cargo Logic liner for cargo area. Dark black grey plastic with a durable fabric covering. Includes four large L-brackets that attach with velcro. Great for keeping groceries (e.g., jug of milk) from moving around. My only complaint is that the binding on the edge is a smidge too large for the cargo bed.

I have discovered a product called "Bug-off" from Griot's Garage. You spray this on your grille and let dry before driving. Bugs then wash off easily. This solves the problem of how to avoid a bug mess in the front grille.

Finally, the MKX made Jim Mateja's 2007 Best Buy list in today's Chicago Tribune:

Our recent vacation included a trip to the Henry Ford Museum, Greenfield Village, and the Rouge Plant Tour. Obviously this is the absolute heart of Ford Motor Company and I expected to see many new Ford products, still I was surprised at just how many I saw. Examples:
-five mile, ten minute drive from hotel to museum: 8 Edges, 2 MKX's
-sitting in restaurant in vicinity, one hour: 30+ Edges, several MKX's
The locals plus Ford employees have obviously taken to the vehicle. Meanwhile here in Houston I am seeing an Edge or MKX about every day.
  • rwinland1rwinland1 Member Posts: 10
The trip mentioned above was 4256 miles-- our "new" MKX now has 10K miles after less than three months of ownership (!!). The following figures are mostly 70-75mph highway driving but some tankfulls included a significant amount of city driving; usually 4 people plus luggage; moderate terrain.

    Lowest tankfull: 18.3 mpg
    Highest tankfull: 23.9 mpg
Average of 13 tankfulls: 21.9 mpg

The highest reading I saw was during a short 55 mph run, just me in the vehicle babying the throttle. I saw 28 mpg until a steep hill got in the way (SR 550 eastbound from Sharpsburg, if anyone is familiar with rural southeast Ohio).

No image available for the accessory listed below on the Lincoln web-site. Called Lincoln.. They are clueless :confuse: Has anybody purchased it? Has anybody seen it? Is it what should have been a standard cargo security cover for the MKX similar to the Murano and other CUVs/SUVs?.. By the way... Love my MKX (only 300 miles but I don't see my opinion changing)... Just want a security cargo cover..... :(:):(

    Cargo Security Shade, Med. Stone
    Part Number: 7T4Z-7845440-AB
    MSRP: $125.00

    Thanks ......
  • avlvavlv Member Posts: 26
I purchased one; hooks over the rear seat head rests, 2 small plastic clip slide between the rear window & trim to hold up the sides; last you are suppose to drill to holes in the rear pillars by the tail get.(templates are supplied for hole placement). After drilling through the metal you are suppose to apply anti-corrosive to drilled holes (not Supplied) I tried to use a velcro solution not workable. I will be having the dealer drill the hole when I go in for service.
  • avlvavlv Member Posts: 26
forgot to add rear drill holes are for two hook that screw in to hold up the rear of the cover. They are supplied.
  • belfastbelfast Member Posts: 18
I must have missed something I cannot see any picture can you repost ...please would like to see sample B$ purchase and you are correct Lincoln people have not any idea about this item.
    thanks, Belfast :confuse:
  • mkxawdmkxawd Member Posts: 22
Thanks for the reply ... Please let us know how well (or not how well) it operates once it's properly installed. Plus, I'm concerned that if it fastens over the rear headrests, what if you want to collapse the seats? Must you remove the security cover first?
  • 07mkx07mkx Member Posts: 7
Well, lets see where to begin? Less than 24 hours after I took the MKX home, someone at work noticed scratches on top of the driver door, and at the roof line. At the dealership, they surmised someone tried to break into it, before they got it. And there were 2 creases in the roof metal. They fixed it, and I mentioned that when they washed it for my delivery, they used hard water, and there were water spots in/on the grill, that I could not remove.

The Navigation head unit, has stopped producing sound, (Tuesday, 7/2/07) They ran a diagnostic on it, and the trouble code said: Replace unit. Radio works, THX doesn't. Fuse 18 was OK. The night before I noticed a lot of heat, at the touch screen. IF you listen closely, you will hear a fan running when the Radio is on. Sound is working on and off now, My thinking is it's heat related.

I said order me a new grill also. Reply was no problem.

I've had a complete Ziebart done on the vechile, ordered heavy floor mats from WeatherTech, for all floor surfaces. Had the Front Side windows tinted to legal 30% grade. White Chocolate paint, all dark windows. Installed door sill polished Stainless Steel plates. Got a Cyclo polisher and detailing materials, for my other vehicles and the Lincoln for down the road.

The Navigation until talks about Voice commands, but I doubt if this is enabled, because every other vechile that uses it, also uses a button you push when you speak, What's up with that? I can guess then that the 2 little squares on the Interior mirror are not mic's.

An employee just leased a new MKX. I have driven it several time now - still not a week old. My impressions, however, are remarkably positive. Love how it drives, very Toyotalike, smooth, quiet, easy to drive. Intuitive, actually. Love the new upgraded leather, like a Lincoln ought to have. Love the cooled seats, the sunroom, which means nothing to me, is fabulous to those who do like them. Angry there is no Bluetooth available - that should be standard in a Lincoln, as should pedal adjusters! WTF? This was a product introduced by Ford a decade ago, now they neglect to put it on their LIncolns? Decontenting at its worst. Otherwise though, I was actually very impressed. IT drives very nearly as nice as my Lexus does.
I can see the ARM influence in improving the product in most areas, and the car is flawless. We can't find a single detail that needs attention. It's tight as a drum, no squeaks, rattles or creaks, and no flaws. Now, we're talking!

Upgrade the Navigation with Bluetooth, and put in the pedal adjusters - it's darn near perfect. YMMV. ;)

So there are no Xenons coming for 2008 either, so the Halogens are here to stay for a while. Could the current owners let me know how they like the lights?

I currently have Xenons and I love them. How the Halogens compare to Xenon lights?

(Pretty please, lets not turn this into a Xenons are horrible for incoming drivers) :)

    TIA!

ARM could not possibly have had any influence on this car. He hasnt been there long enough.
