I don't think this will bother former minivan drivers at all.

That's close to damning with faint praise.

Yeah and remember mschmal is a Lincoln *dealer*

The car does feel substantial but probably in a way that most people will like. It gives a sense of security.

That's exactly the way it should feel. That's the secret weapon of luxury cars, MB, BMW, Lexus, Jaguar, the all have the "heavy" feeling that makes them smooth and solid feeling. I was afraid it would not have that because of the underpinnings, but evidently, they did it right. Halleluhah! It's 1983 again, and Ford is building cars again! (referencing the revolutionary 83 Thunderbird - a very good car in its day.)

That's one of the things I didn't like about the MKZ. The doors felt light and tinny, very Japanese. Lincolns need to feel substantial.

Go buy a Mustang if you want Heavy doors :).

I have a 2007 Mustang as my daily driver and I'm only 5'7 so getting into the MKX and NOT seeing the hood is very weird for me.

I forget to mention the addaptive headlamps. If you drive back cury roads, YOU WANT this feature here in NJ I bet a lot of people will avoid hitting deer with this headlights.

The thing that really impressed me the most was the quietness of the interior and the smoothness of the transmission.

I think if Lincoln can once again become known for having the quietest interiors, they will go along way toward restoring the past glory and heritage.

Remember, as recently as 2002, Lincoln was the BEST selling Luxury name plate in the US.

Well, they need to be known for something again other than the best version of the Fusion - the Navigator has carried them since 98 when it came out, and the Town Car went to hell. It will no more - not with this new restyle.

Remember, as recently as 2002, Lincoln was the BEST selling Luxury name plate in the US.

Again, due to the Navigator, because they have nothing else right now. The LS is dead, the Town Car sells only to fleets.

Darn, I guess I had the wrong impression :(

How do you know that the brakes were vented? Is this going to be a permanent change for all MKXs? The bad soild disc brakes is a turnoff for me.
    Thanks,

Of course I have no way of know if there are cheap crappy brake pads on there....

I just ordered my MKX today, the dealer told me it would take between 6-10 weeks. It is true?

  • nvbankernvbanker Member Posts: 7,239
Was there one there for you to drive? My dealer as yet, doesn't have one even for a Demo....
  • Saw my first MKX this morning in traffic. Just this side of homely in the metal. This one may sell ok, but I doubt it will burn up the sales charts.
  • nvbankernvbanker Member Posts: 7,239
Well, the Edge looks very homely to me, so the MKX should resemble that remark. Perhaps the neat features and glitzy interior will carry it.
  • Hope so. It's not pretty and its not butch. It is just sort of there. Oh, if they woulda coulda shoulda used the Aviator concept details instead.
  • nvbankernvbanker Member Posts: 7,239
    Yes, AND, called it AVIATOR.
  • nvbankernvbanker Member Posts: 7,239
Why don't you titillate us with some details - color, options, features, etc.? Price???
  • displacedtexandisplacedtexan Member Posts: 364
Yesterday I went to my LM dealer to see if I won an MKZ (I didn't). While there I asked when they expected to see an MKX; response was "any day now."

This afternoon I sat behind an MKX at a red light. Another dealership sold it, apparently. Seconding other remarks already made, it looked nice enough, but nothing very exciting from the back side. I think it'll sell okay, but from behind there's little "wow" factor.
  • lateralglateralg Member Posts: 929
It's a delicate balance they have to maintain. Some people's WOW are other people's UGH.
  • nvbankernvbanker Member Posts: 7,239
Well, my dealership has NONE, just got back from there looking for a sighting.....there was none.
  • akirbyakirby Member Posts: 8,062
Some people's WOW are other people's UGH.

Exactly. I don't understand why some people think that the only car design that will sell is the one that THEY like.

It looks as good or better than the Lexus RX350 and they sell a ton of those.

Given the small sales target I think they'll sell all they can make with minimal incentives, just like the Fusion/Milan/MKZ.
  • displacedtexandisplacedtexan Member Posts: 364
I didn't mean to imply there was anything wrong with what I saw, just that it was "nice." Actually, I like the tailight treatment. I think the front end, in the pictures, looks sharp and distinctive. I hope it sells well.

Good point, I mean I retch every time I see a PT Cruiser...

on autoblog and car connection, it is very good looking.
  • nvbankernvbanker Member Posts: 7,239
It is good looking, but the article says it's low on technology, and that doesn't work for me.... May work for Ford though, and if they make the MkR off that platform, we have possibilities.

That has to be the most attractive Lincoln product seen in a very long time and worthy of the name. Nice going Lincoln.

I saw a Black on Black and a Vivid Red on Black MKX. I was with a couple of buddies and both of them were smitten over the vehicle. I also thought it had a great look to it. If I need the room I would purchase one however I am enjoying my MKZ. The edge also looks very nice. The key is selecting the right color. I wish Lincoln success in what they are doing. Did anyone notice that the Limos used in the Ford funeral were all Chrysler?
  • bradlicbradlic Member Posts: 8
In the Detroit area they are in stock, most dealers have between 5 and 30 MKX's in stock. However they are all low end or high end.

    I ordered:

    FWD
    Black Ext. Black Int.
    DVD Navigation
    Untimate Pkg.
    Trailer Pkg.

MSRP was $39,080, but I also get A-Plan. I am going to lease it for 24 mos, 18,000 miles/yr, and $2,500 down the payment will be ~$440/mo. Now I just have to wait for it to arrive.
  • nvbankernvbanker Member Posts: 7,239
Wish I could find one to try out...

The MKX has really started to arrive at the dealerships here in the Orlando, FL area. Saw a Light Sage color with the light interior, Ultimate Package, Sirius radio, trailer package, and a few more incidentals . MSRP $37400. I thought it looked just great! Will drive it in the next few days, and if we can agree on a price, it will be in my garage.

The Creme Brulee color is also outstanding with the light interior.

Checked it out - don't like it. The cowl is way too high, just like it is in the new MKZ. I don't know what it is with Ford making all these cars like a bathtub, but I prefer the panoramic view. I don't like to be straining to see over the damn dash or hood. (there is none on the MKX). So, I am no longer interested.
  • mschmalmschmal Member Posts: 1,757
What CUV out there does not have a bathtub effect?

The Nissan Murano is even more so of a bath tub.

I for one prefer to feel like I am sitting IN a vehicle rather than ON a vehicle.

The visibility out of my RX350 is outstanding, except to the rear corners.
  • akirbyakirby Member Posts: 8,062
It's not visibility. It's the height of the door sills and top of the dash relative to the seating position.

Yesterday, my MKX appointment showed up to look at the vehicle for the first time. I had been talking to the husband over a couple of days working out lease scenarios with him. He was pretty familiar with the vehicle and how it compared to his FX35.

Anyway, I show them the MKX we have outside the showroom, the wife takes one look at it and says she doesn't like it. They leave.

This was a couple in their late 50s.

I have other people tell me how much they like the way it looks. I take this as a good sign. The design has an actual effect on people.

Personally I think the wife was just being passive aggressive because she wants something more prestigious.

    Mark.
  • bigtbigt Member Posts: 412
I am amazed at the group who will not even look at a domestic car. I think the design is great. My brother (who drives a Lexus) and I saw a Black on Black MKX and for one of the few times he said that it had an impressive stand to it. But to each their own!
  • displacedtexandisplacedtexan Member Posts: 364
I hope she wasn't thinking the FX35 was prestigious. Infinity hasn't yet earned the "prestigious" monikor in my book.

My wife just got her MKX this weekend. She wanted it the first time we saw pictures of it last year. I have the X-plan, so I didn't have to haggle on the price, and received financing of 3.9% for 60 months.

The truck is a lot nicer than I expected. Most of my friends have mini SUV's and this is just as nice as the Lexus RX 350, Acura MDX or BMW X3.

There are minor things I would want done differently if I was driving like the dash and very light color interior, but overall it is really nice to drive, has a better navigation system and stereo, and other features then the competitors. Perfect for taking two small kids and groceries around town.

I'll let you know if she is still happy down the road.
  • bigtbigt Member Posts: 412
Saw one while leaving my office the other day. Looks sharp! I have a MKZ so we both did a thumbs up to one another!
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,107
So you got the light interior? Any problem with reflections of the dash off the windshield? We're thinking of the grey interior to get the black dash.
  • rich72rich72 Member Posts: 7
My wife drives it every day and loves the truck. She did not go with the dark interior because she thought it made it look small inside. We don't see any problems with reflections and she keeps the moon roof open all the time.

The only issue she has is that our 2 young kids make a mess with their shoes and it shows up on the light interior. We also wish it had a cargo mat for the back. I bought a clear plastic mat for now.
  • bigtbigt Member Posts: 412
I never had any problem with the light interior with my Zephyr. I went with Black on Black with Nickel on my MKZ only because the white did get dirty on occasion.
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,107
Thanks, I had read of reflection problems on the Edge, didn't know if they carried over. And yes, I can imagine that the light interior is a dirt magnet. If only they'd have gone just a bit darker...

MKX, MKZ, MKR, MKS, NEXT THING YOU KNOW THE PICKUP WILL BE MLT. CONFUSING FOR THE AVERAGE PERSON.

    :>)

It's even confusing for Lincolns' marketing geniuses.

First it was pronounced "Emm Kay whatever" cause luxury cars HAVE to have alpha numeric names. I think it's in the bible or the Koran.

Then it was NO. It's meant to signify "Mark" A definite historical Lincoln name. (And this is the way I pronounce it myself cause its easier and makes a helluva lot more sense. "Mark Exx"

But NO, said Lincoln. Whichever of our highly paid employees said it was "Mark" was wrong. It is "Emm Kay whatever" Why? They have no answer. Kinda like a kid when u ask why he did that bad thing? "I dunno. Just because"

ANd Ford is not done yet - witness the recent Taurus X. I expect the next model to be the Taurus XY, followed by the XYZ. Finally the whole company will be renamed the T I T A N I C.

    What is the X-Plan?
  • bigtbigt Member Posts: 412
It is Ford employee pricing. If you have a friend or relative that works at Ford they can get you a number that you can give to the dealer and get a different price. I think it is around 200-300 over invoice. In a lot of cases you can get Invoice pricing for vehicles. In the case of a hot or limited production car X-plan can save you money.

I saw another price on the invoice for actually dealer employees which was even better but since I do not know anyone in that capacity well...
  • akirbyakirby Member Posts: 8,062
X plan is not employee pricing - that's A plan. D plan is the dealership employee pricing. X plan is for friends and family of employees and for corporate partners. A plan is around 4% less than X plan and X plan is about $100 under invoice for Ford/Mercury and about $250 over invoice for Lincoln. The biggest advantage to X plan is that the dealer is not allowed to add any fees (especially the infamous documentation fee) which can save you $300-$400 even if the vehicle price was the same.
