I wouldn't share those fond memories with your wife...unless she was the one you took on the drive
Actually it wouldn't bother her, although she wouldn't have any interest in knowing the details. We're both happy with the people we now are, and we know we got that way because of our past experiences.
As for the Miata, I just wish I could fit into one now, let alone perform the contortions I managed in my youth.
since I am in the process of pricing out home improvements, and want to change even more things that are way out the budget (or not even feasible), I have thought that getting hit by a meteor or having a car spontaneously combust might be simpler, and cheaper, in the long run!
the side benefit, it will speed up the decluttering process by at least a decade (the wife is one of those packrat types).
Hopefully your Accord to be isn't home at the time Steve.
I've been going on and on about what to do with my Prelude & what I'm buying next. But I'm sure many of you are saying, why?
I did say this is all for good reason. My wife is pregnant with our 3rd child. So that's why a CRV (toilet with no pickup) or an X1 (awesome) will do. We need a vehicle big enough to fit 3 child safety seats.
I love the new Explorer. I'd very much consider one. Explorerx4 - Of course there are Fords in my part of CT. The Landscspers & HVAC guys need pickup trucks & Econolines. I live in Stamford, not Greenwich or Westport. Lol!

Congratulations. That will make a big difference in what you choose. My opinion only, but I don't think your beloved Prelude is going to work....there might be times you will have to use it to carry more people than you have up until now. You could save it as a fun car to use for a fun ride, but I think it will cost a lot more than the fun you will get from it.
We are back to looking for a new car that seats a minimum of 5 or 6 people I guess, and has the things on your wish list. Is a Honda Odyssey of any interest?
And don't go and buy a Miata and tell your wife you want to do the things you used to do in your younger days.
There is nothing wrong with “wanting” to do the things you did in your younger days. The problem sets in when you “can’t” do them anymore. Thankfully, I don’t have much of a problem with my later-year-wants. While I might not be able to do them as quickly, I can still do them.
BTW, you don’t tell a wife anything, you only hint and if it’s a good one they’ll get the idea. How do you think I got the Genny?

You can get $5K for it and do everything in your power to give it a good home, i.e. not sell it to some hoonigan who will trash the car inside of 6 months with either hard driving or an attempt to turn it into some sort of Fast & Furious wannabe.
You can’t control what someone will do with the car you sell, as much as you’d like to. If you are the type that can’t live with that you better just keep it. I for one don’t care what the next owner does with a car I sell, they can burn it for all I care. However, Son #1 didn’t feel the same way when I sold a near perfect ’75 Grand Prix in ’87.
I told this tale about that a while back:
In ’87 I decided to sell my ’75 Grand Prix because I got an ’85 Grand Prix that would be Mrs. jmonroe’s car. The ’75 didn’t even have 80K miles on it when I put it up for sale. Until I was ready to sell it I parked it at my mother’s house because she had a rear garage and a space behind the parking pad in the back so the car would be out of sight from the street. This neighbor woman sees the car out there for a few days and asked about it. She is told that I’m going to sell it just as soon as I get it ready. This woman thought that was the case and said that her 20 year old son always liked that car when he saw me come to visit and would be very interested in it. So she would like me to give him the first crack at it.
I show him the car and he’s very excited about its 400 CID V8 when he drove it. We agree on a price and before he takes the car I said, “you can see it’s been well cared for even if it is 12 years old and has almost 80K miles on it but if you treat it right you should have a pretty reliable car for a few years”. He’s doing the bobble head thing as he takes the keys. He heads up the driveway to the street and is going so fast by the time he gets to the street I thought he was going to pull out and hit the car that was driving by but he screeched the car to a stop just in time. After he’s on the street I could hear him squealing the tires before he got to the end of the block. Son #1 was with me and I said to him, “that car won’t be on the road in another a year. I just hope he doesn’t hurt himself”. I was almost right.
The next summer my son is working as a lot boy at a large local Chevy dealer, a few miles away after his senior year of high school, before going off to Penn State in the Fall. He bumps into this kid who is working at the parts counter one day and the kid said, “remember me, I’m the one that bought your fathers Gran Prix last summer”. They get to talking and my son said, “where is the car, I’d like to see it”? The kid said, “oh, when I get it one the road again I’ll bring it in. I’m working on it now”. A couple weeks later the kid brings the car in and calls my son over to see. The front bumper is banged up, it has a few dents in several places, the A/C compressor is out, the dash is torn apart and the door panels are off. The kid isn’t finished hacking the inner door supports and panels to make room for new speakers.
My son comes home with a horrified look and is almost sick telling me about the car he loved to drive when he got his license. I told him, “not to worry about it because it happens all the time. Just because you care about a car that you sell doesn’t mean the new owner will care just as much”.
He got an early lesson about how some people treat their cars.

J, I have an almost identical story with my 89 Lincoln. The guy bought it for his wife and she obviously couldn't handle the size and hit everything in site. I saw it a few months later and it had red tape over both taillamps, dents everywhere and when I peeked inside it looked like a McDonald's trashcan was emptied into the car.
I never saw it again after that and I was glad for that.
Actually mrs fezo would be happy to be rid of the van as well. Just need until May 15 which is the last time I'd actually need its space except maybe now and again at which point I could rent one.

The Odyssey is really nice. When you sit in the driver's seat, it doesn't feel like you're drivingt a minivan, but a Luxury Sedan with fine appointments & every option available. The biggie is that AWD isn't offered. After the winter we had, as long as I'm buying a new car, I might as well buy one with 4WD or AWD & some ground clearance.

Even as a joke, cars like that are not allowed off of your private property in this state. To show you how anal they can be in this state, I worked with a guy back in the ‘70s who was working on his car and took the bumper off to do some work on it and his wife wanted to take her car out to go shopping but she was blocked in. Looks like Hyundai is addressing the problem of trade in values with a new warranty that will guaranty the price of the car if you trade it in within 2 to 4 years. If the car is worth more, they will use that figure.
I was surprised in this article when they say Hyundai used car values are very good.
**************************************************************************** Published: April 21, 2011 10:20 AM
Courtesy of Hyundai Motor AmericaFountain Valley-based Hyundai Motor America is adding a Trade-In Value Guarantee feature to its popular Assurance program in an effort to curb fears about vehicle depreciation.
Starting May 1, when a consumer buys a new Hyundai model, the buyer will be given a guaranteed value for the vehicle based on figures from the Automotive Lease Guide if it is traded in after two to four years of ownership.
Hyundai officials said the program ensures buyers "more car for the money" now and later, and it is made possible by the automaker's residual values, which are among the highest in the industry.

OK, the Odyssey wasn't quite right, but now I found a really good one for you. Not only does it have all the features you want, but it seats 7 and will handle a lot better than the Prelude...probably more fun to drive too!
As I said in another thread, I have never been so ambivalent about a car in my entire life. I was not happy that it required a LF strut and a turbo before it hit 27K. It also needed a VVT repair pursuant to a TSB. Since it's been out of warranty it's needed a somewhat pricey EGR valve and a set of rear shocks. Over the past 12,000 miles the car has been on its best behavior, returning between 26 and 29 mpg. With all the uncertainty in the economy I think I'll hold on to it for a while longer and concentrate on turning the 2002 into a comfortable daily driver...

It's hard to give up something you really like, but the chances are if you choose well, you will probably like the new one even more.
Happy Passover.

I was surprised in this article when they say Hyundai used car values are very good.

He mentioned a Pilot. The Pilot and MDX are pretty darn similar, except the price.
