To be brief; (Isell...close your ears)
We can buy Cascade dishwasher detergent in Canada, but not Cascade complete.
Complete worked really well, so we stocked up in Florida a few years ago, bought about 8 pkges
We were running low so next trip to the U.S. we bought 5 large size pkges.
The dishes all had a film on them, glasses were cloudy, dishes had a scuzzy film on them
We continually washed dishes in Vinegar, and used TCL to clean the dishwasher
We went online and found lots of people were having trouble with Cascade. Some people
bought new dishwashers, which is what we considered doing.
Seems all manufacturers had to remove phosphates in some states, and Cascade removed them in all states....can't ship different product to different states.

Some friend got good results with an ecologically friendly product called Green. I was
skeptical, but the product is great...cleanest the dishes have ever been

I called P&G and explained I had 4 boxes of their crappy product and that it was worse than
useless, I spent a lot of time cleaning dishes unnecessarily, and almost bought
a new dishewasher. Carrie was very polite, but said if I had called immediately,
they would have given me some helpful tips. I said what difference could that
make, we didn't know it was a problem until we found others were having
the same problem. I thought they could at least replace the faulty product with
a new boxes. No, the lines were drawn......they don't want to admit liability and
I will try to avoid their products from now on. Those people that said their
emblem was a devil sign are probably correct.

Any way, a long story to explain how manufacturers aren't very helpful these days.....just bottom line profits, so I don't know how much a Chrysler dealer will be there to help. Also, since they recently bought the business they are probably paying off millions of dollars. Better to go to a dealer who has paid off his business.

I know, I had to rant because that is one thing that bothers me...companies that leave you high and dry, then wonder why customers don't come back.

Well, it looks like you’re going to have to go with the old standby fix for creaking/squeaks…use the volume knob on the radio.

What about wrapping the steering column in duct tape to deaden the sound?

That's true. a lot of forums died because of heavy handed hosts that kept things in line with a choke chain until the "regulars" lost interest

"Sometimes dead is better." - Stephen King

Isell, I'm more inclined to agree with your initial response i.e "Yawn", than pinheads. What once was a great discussion has turned into a never ending "prattle" fest.

This "anything goes" mentaility may be more appropriate for a discussion in the "Off Topic Chatter" board. Having the nonstop "pub talk" here discourages newcomers and salesmen from posting. They come in and read about which laundry detergent is better, and who has the bigger prostrate, and leave never to come back. Tidester knew this, and always tried to gently steer the discussion back on course.

I've bought a car and am in the process of buying a house. But those type of posts rarely get a response here anymore.

Well... we've tried to steer folks to the OTC forum a number of times, but most of y'all seem intent on staying right here.

If we ever get some REAL sales stories going, perhaps I'll open a new discussion and move them over there, and change the title of this one... not a lot of point since there aren't many sales stories being posted.

While it may discourage salespeople from posting, I'm not seeing many salespeople post anywhere in the forums at the moment, so it's not like they're here in the forums and just avoiding this discussion.

with this forum? Its easily the most active on Edmunds (AFAIK), it doesn't show up on "Most Popular in Forums" list and alot of the regulars here (Richard, Driver, OF, JM, Mako) don't post in many of the hundreds of other threads.

If you don't like this forum, take it off your watch list and most likely you will never see it again.

I missed the post about your new car purchase. Give me the post number if you don’t want to reiterate here.

One of the last things I heard from you was about putting in a new door leading out to the deck. Was that done in preparation of selling the house or did the door salesman get the best of you on that and now you think you’ll have a better chance grinding with a house seller? :confuse:

He was selling the Jipst method of door buying...

I am trying to picture driver trying to bring all that Cascade across the border. "No, officer, that white powder is dish detergent!" :(

Another thought for Richard's clicking car. My late, great BIL was a Ford mechanic. One day they ask him to deal with this old fella (not that I am calling Richard old). His car has been clicking. All the other mechanics have tried everything and could not duplicate the issue. Jack asks the fella if he will drive around with Jack in the passenger's seat and he agrees. A little into the drive Jack asks, "Sir, do you have false teeth?" THAT was the clicking sound..... From the customer side. I don't think I've ever told this one before, scuse if I have or if its boring.

Back in the summer 05' I was in the market for a new daily driver. Somewhere or other I had heard about the HHR so I stopped by a local Chevy dealer to check it out.
Met a salesman and told him what I was looking for and said I was interested in ordering one (wanted a manual tranny and there was none at all on any lots close by).

Of course fairly early in the conversation he had to ask about a trade-in. This triggered the little devil in my mind and I said 'why yes, I have this 9 YO Pontiac Grand AM I drove in today, 4 CYL manual tranny, not A/C equipped and only 247,000 miles on the ODO.'

I couldn't get a good read on his face, I don't know if he was he type that always look like they are smiling, or if it was just his ingrained salesman's game face, but I do believe I could detect a slight but of pain there until I elightened him that I was not going to try and trade it.

When inside and doing the mandatory intro with sales manager right out of the chute he asked about trade. The salesman was more then happy to tell him what I had, I only added ' yep, its a cream-puff' . Once again the ensueing few seconds silence was golden until I let him in that I wasn't trading.

While we were jibber-jabbering about the state of the world or whatever in the lot I asked if I was going to be asked about mop and glo and other stuff by the FI person and if could rufuse without being pressured . He chuckled and said yes, they have to do that with everyone.

I qualified for a discount thing and part of the deal was I should be able to get an exact price before ordering. Trouble was (presumably because the HHR was new intro) it wasn't in their computer yet (for the discount program). I was fine with waiting until it was.

I called every week or so to check on the computer stuff for about a month and it was always negative, wasn't there yet. Eventually a couple days after my latest call the salesman called me and said he had talked with the SM and they came up with an offer that virtualy the same as the discount thing. That worked for me and I ordered it.

After the usual 6 weeks or so wait it came in and I picked it up ( also messed with the salesman a bit as he had missed taking off the plastic wrap covering the radio and I told him to leave it (he really had trouble doing that ;) )).

The F&I stuff (which I had asked about 2 + months before), nary a word about Mop & GLO or anything else.

Good experiance and good salesman, wish I knew where he went after the dealership closed.

Here is a sales story.... no, it is not a new car, but a used one. I have been off for a couple of weeks due to having my right knee replaced. We have a friend who is an insurance agent. He called and stated that he had a customer pass away and the wife wanted to trade in his car for a new Camry. The car is a 2005 Kia Amanti with 39,000 kms (just over 24,000 miles) on it. Very well maintained and totally loaded (heated seats, dual climate control, sunroof, leather, 4 wheel disk, ABS, and more air bags than I have ever seen). This is a beautiful car. Colour is pearl white. I had him bring it by and I bought if for my wife. Price was $6,000. I had a local company detail the car before my wife had a look. She loves it.

I am now driving her old Chrysler as she does not want me attempting to climb into my new F150, in fact, she hid all the keys for it so that I can't.

How has the reliability been for your HHR? I know two people who have them and liked them until the reliability went south.

Sounds like a pretty good buy. The car probably sold for about $32k when new, depreciation is 50% the first year, and should be about 1/3 now, so $6k is a pretty fair price.

Lots of room, has a lot features, I like the Mercedes front end and the attempt at a bustle back rear end personally.

Happy driving and thanks fo an honest to goodness real life car sales story.

Pretty good review from Edmunds (for those who still want to know the meaning of "feel of the road" read the review, the Amanti doesn't have it, but it does have a cushiony ride.

Hasn't left me stranded as of yet :D

Have 116,000 miles on it and recently did shocks and struts (over due, got tired of rattly bangy) plus a couple wheel bearings. Other then that a cam actuater( I think thats what it was), T-stat a while ago and thats about it. I've been happy with it (averaging a couple MPG over EPA highway milage estimates in decent weather isn't bad either)

I bought the twin of the Amanti in 2005. I got the Hyundai XG 350. It is not the L series which I didn’t want any way since I didn’t want the sunroof. Because it isn’t the L it also doesn’t have the bun warmers which I didn’t think was a big deal when I drove that car. However, Mrs. j has moaned about the lack of bun warmers in that car ever since I turned it over to her when I traded her ’06 Sonata LX, that had them, for my ’09 Genny.

Her XG 350 has a little over 41K miles on it now and so far so good. I know those throwaways depreciate fast but I thought I’d get more than $6K if I sold it tomorrow but maybe not.

Good luck with your “new” car and with your new knee.

Are you serious? Her B-day is in August. That’s all I need is to give her warmer buns in the Summer…no thanks. :(

She doesn't have to use them in August... just think how nice it will be for her to know that once the weather turns cold she will be all warm and toasty.

Of course option #2 would be to trade in the XG, give her the Genny and treat yourself to an Equus.

    That is a multiple win
    1:) She gets bun warmers
2:) You get a new car
3:) The forum gets a sales story.

Hey, even though I am no fan of Korean cars that is a LOT of car for the money!

This is when poor resale pays off...for the BUYER!

A couple of the rental car companies bought Amanti's a few years ago and when they dumped them they sold at horrible distressed prices at the auctions making them a great buy for the people who wanted one!

Well, it is the darnest thing. I drove the convertible all day today---church meeting, medical appointment, luncheon meeting, shopping, etc. I didn't play the radio and tried to listen for the noise. Never once did I hear a thing. We're going to Raleigh in the morning for the day. I'll see how it does on the trip. Perhaps what ever it was has cured itself. I hope so.

Not sure if this is helpful, but thought that I would mention it. Our new dishwasher recommended using the Cascade tablets which contain Dawn Liquid. Also, it recommended using the Cascade Clear rinse agent once a month. So far, we have had the cleanest dishes in 45 years! The glasses are crystal clear and the silverware just shines. We are very pleased. Perhaps the Dawn Liquid additive has something to do with the process. We use Dawn to wash our pots and pans---does a great job. I'm sorry to hear that you have had such a bad experience.

Thanks for the info. I think they reformulated their product when they made the tablets and gel, and they mentioned I should buy those.

But, the Green product works really well, so I don't want to give P&G any of my money, no matter how good their new products are.

Does any one want to buy 4 large boxes of the useless Cascade powder stuff that leaves a thick film on everything? If no one claims it I'll leave it in my will for Fezo.

Glad the noise went away....hope it stays that way. Odd that other people had the same noise though.

It makes no sense to buy a 4 year old car when you have just won $2 million.
There's more chance he will go bankrupt making decisions like that than if he just went out and bought a new car. Trying to save $10 or $20k when you just won $2 million makes no sense, no matter how thrifty he thinks he is.

Oh it makes perfect sense, any financial planner would tell you not to go on big spending sprees after winning. Now did he win $2 million are a lot less, the story wasn't clear. It said he took it in a lump sum payment so if it was a $2 million jackpot a lumpsum after taxes would be under a million.

I was surprised and saddened to hear one of my favorite posters say this. You, along with the rest of us, have been off topic from time to time. Since 2008, we've had less sales stories to post due to the economy. I believe that the majority of people who come to this thread find it interesting and informative, regardless of the topic. Though we are off topic, there are still many posts regarding cars---repairs, new designs and models, optional equipment, driving habits, and many related items that give good advice and assistance to others. If Edmunds didn't believe this, I doubt that they would allow us to remain.

I also believe that it is because of the friendly ties that we share here, that we get off topic at times. Each of us feels that we can vent, share, and express our experiences to one another. Many people do not often have such a unique opportunity to do so.

I can honestly say that if I had known that you purchased a new car or a house, I would have been very interested in your posts. I would certainly have wanted to respond to you. As Jmonroe said, I remember the opening to the deck on your house. I responded to those posts. You then faded away from us. You were always one of the mainstays of this forum---interesting stories, great advice, and a wonderful sense of humor. I, along with others, have missed you. Try to return and join in the fun. You were one of the reasons I stayed here---such a great guy to converse with at all times.

Believe me I've thought of it. Mrs. j is the type that once she gets used to a car she doesn't want to drive anything else. She just doesn't like the idea of driving a different car, honest. When there are cars lined up in the driveway when people come over and a car or two has to be moved so that the person that is boxed in can leave, she is automatically excused and by now everyone has excepted it.

I know this will be hard for you guys to believe but she has not once driven the '09 Genny. I've told her that it would be a good idea to at least know how to start it (for those that don't know, it is keyless) but she still hasn't even done that. :confuse:

I watched the video again. He took a lump sum payment of $850,000. If he pays say 30% in taxes ($255,000), he would only have $595,000 remaining. That doesn't buy a mega mansion and a new Rolls.

As for keeping the food stamps, he's a real a$$h---!

lump sum payment so if it was a $2 million jackpot a lumpsum after taxes would be under a million.

In Canada you don't pay taxes on a lottery or casino win. Since you can't claim money lost as a deduction you don't have to pay money won.

The guy would still have enough to live on, the money isn't of much use unless you spend it. I have talked about people we know who are multi-millionaires, they won't pay for a newspaper, we have to give them our read books, buy the cheapest food, their house is falling apart, their 25 year old TV finally broke down so they had to buy a new one, furniture is 50 years old, drive a 2006 Uplander so he can get in it, otherwise they would still have their 2000 Malibu.

They burn old newspapers and cardboard in their fire place so they don't spend money on fire wood - Their place as smoke in it and the fire alarm continually goes off - it is like breathing in smoke.

Sure, it is financially prudent....but they could have enjoyed life more if they could bring themselves to spend some of their money. There is financially prudent, then their is crazy cheap!

Granted money isn't of much use unless you spend it. However its of no use after you spent it. We are not talking about a multimillionaire not spending their money. We are talking about someone who is apparently of little means who came into several hundred thousand and needs to make the money last. According to the article his income from investing the rest would be less than $5K a year. So buying used is prudent unless you don't care about making the money last.

Richard said he ended up with $250k....so that is a lot different than $2 million, so it would be wise for him to buy a used 2008 instead of say a new Corvette. He should be able to get more than $5000 a year from investments with $250k in the bank. And, he has all his food paid for too.

I also believe that it is because of the friendly ties that we share here, that we get off topic at times. Each of us feels that we can vent, share, and express our experiences to one another.

Your post said everything I was thinking...but only you can put it into words, so well.

I enjoy reading Jipst posts and his observations and comments. This site works because it moves like a conversation, twisting and bending as topics and experiences come up....but we always come back to buying and selling cars.

No, no. You read my post too quickly. Go back and read it again. He took $850,000---I was guessing at the taxes being $255,000 or around 30%. That would leave him with roughly a half million.

I wouldn't mind sitting on a half mil in the bank to skim interest off of. It would pay for the occasional indulgence or two. I wouldn't go out spending it all that is for sure. If anything it may yield an earlier retirement.

BTW a little smart investing should be able to yield at least 4 or 5%. My 401K over the last 5 years is still holding at 6.4% ROI. At 4% that is an additional 20K income.

JM, I am not surprised your wife hasn't driven the Genesis. My GF hates to drive my car, she says I'm too fussy and is afraid she would get a parking lot ding, or curb a wheel. Speaking of the Genesis.... only 11 months left of the lease!!
