Gogi...I've had several people over the years ask me to invest in their bar, or their restaurant. I 've told them all the same thing. I know how to eat in a restaurant. I know how to drink in a bar. I wouldn't have any idea how to run either one.

Same with dealerships. I know how to drive a car. I'm pretty good at buying and selling to a dealership. I don't know where to begin if I were to own one.

I'd like to give it a shot, though....with someone else's money. :shades:

the trade value seems low and the asking of the 2010 seems high.

That's what I was trying to say, but the salesguy thought I should just fall for it.

It was only going to be a treat for me since my birthday is in 3 days.

My wife said "I don't have a present yet...go for it".

The salesguy made little effort so I blew it off.

Andy, feel free to call them and tell them what you just said.

Post it up and I can give you a realistic value....... I've seen TMV be $2,000 light and $4,000 high...

So you're saying Imbrentwood got the "creamed corn" at the Lexus store.

Nah I bought it as a lease return when I worked at Toyota. Car was clean, fresh tires and brakes, no paintwork, etc.

    Then the nightmare started.

    It's a 2007 Red 6 cyl 4WD, his is 6 cyl 2WD. I'm over it.
I'll just stay with my Escape.

Besides I just put new wiper blades and NAPA's best battery in it.

All I wanted to do was a little upgrade. Federal Reserve Notes are really becoming worthless these days. 10 grand used to mean something.

they found out how BAD that stuff tastes!

That brings back horrible memories from my childhood. My parents use to like the stuff as did my older sister. It made me gag. To this day the smell of it makes me run for the nearest exit.

Hyundai is advertising a guaranteed trade in value at the end of three years on any of their new cars.

Check out the Tucson or Santa Fe, then come back and tell us what the "catch" is.

the catch is that they only guarentee the trade in value if you trade it in for a new Hyundai.

That being said the KBB trade in value of my wifes Sonata is within a few hundred of what we paid for it.

Most Lexuses have good reliability ratings. The GS AWD, for some reason, has a very poor rating, per CR. The darn things have been around a long time so you would think they could figure it out.

Car problems like that can be a nightmare. Hope you get it worked out.

Well that makes sense. I didn't think they would go down to the local Ford dealer and tell them how much to give you on a trade for a new Mustang. :)

Because it's unreliable and I hate it. Lexus has also been horrible. Check out mylexussucks.com

    What happened to:
Lexus North America's troubling response to my concerns

Seems that page doesn't show up right now. What if you are offered an incredible job at a Lexus Store? Will you take it?

That has to be a really frustrating experience. I know you want a Jaguar, but what are you driving now, I don't know if you mentioned that....must have been 4 posts yesterday.

That car is in the running for "lemon of the year" award.

I must be the only person on the planet who likes that stuff. No one in my family does, so my days of eating it are probably over. Then again, I like brussel sprouts, lima beans, beets, turnips... all those veggies everyone else hates.

Maybe I'd like the Lexus too, though I kind of doubt it.

2 cans of creamed corn + a small box of frozen corn + small tin of ElPaso chillies + 4 0z monterrey jack shreds + 4oz cheddar shreds + 3-4 tbs melted butter. S&P to taste. Mix and bake for 30 minutes at 350. Ice cold beer and a bottle of hot sauce, then get outta my way !!

Oops... I need to fix that.

I already own a Jaguar, an 06 XJ8 that I bought.. shoot.. spring of 09? Love it. Over memorial day weekend I took it on a 1,000 mile tour of New England and had a blast, especially along the Kancamagus Highway :)

Just sold my E-Type that I was never gonna get around to restoring... I've driven Jags for years and have had good luck with them, sold TONS AND TONS of them on my used car lot, had VERY few issues.

Lexus can go... well... use your imagination.

I currently own.. shoot... 9 cars I think? Next purchase is a 1956 Lincoln Premiere and then I'm going to ship the Lexus off to the auction....

At the moment I'm driving an 08 TL as a demo... for today anyhow.

I finally got to this site! We're having a great time. Car and passengers doing well. Made it to Nashville first day, Kansas City second day, and North Platte, Nebraska third day. Then we slowed down to see new things. Spent two days seeing Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, and Bad Lands of South Dakota. Awesome experience. Went to Devil's Tower yesterday, and drove through the northern Rockies---threw snowballs at one another at one point---great fun. Will meet my sister and BIL this afternoon in Jackson Hole, WY. Will be there for five days doing Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Cody, etc. They'll fly home and we'll head for Salt Lake City and on to Denver. Wife's health is doing good. I have some leg pain but I'm having such a great time that it doesn't matter.

Imid---You'll be proud of me. I check my oil monitor each evening when we stop. The oil has gone from 77% to 53% since we left. This covers 2,700 miles at this point. I'll continue to watch it. Gas mileage is now at 18 mpg average. SRX is doing great. So comfortable.

Driver---the V8 is a great option. I've needed those horses three or four times and they never failed me.

Houdini and fezo---the papers will do yoou no good. I've alerted Mrs. Richard to be on guard. :D

Brentwood---Welcome home! It's so nice to have you back.

GG---Hope the car is exactly what you want when you see it.

Bolivar---I'm doing better. I read part of the manual on the way out here. I now even know how to change my settings. :)

Bottom Line: So glad that we did this trip. We were hesitant; but it's been a wonderful experience so far. We feel 30 years old again!

Houdini---I'll be in touch if we don't turn far south on our way back.

All of you take care and I'll try to post again.

Great to hear about your Jag experience as a month ago I bought an off-lease '09 XK coupe. Loving it, but just spent two days at the dealer having the an ac valve changed (passenger footwell filled with water after a road trip w/ac running), the integrated audio module fixed and the glove box reset (stopped "soft landing"). Thank goodness for the warranty! And, hopefully, that's it for a long time.

Unfortunately, for Jag, with these experiences my wife has crossed a new XF off her list.

I bought a British car, used. Not sweating it, knew the possiblities. But, when the warranty is done...!

Wife's car is an almost 10 year old Lexus RX, faithful servant. Put a bunch of $$$ into it the past few years, though, wear/maintenance stuff. Sorry for your trials and tribulations...

brentwood - nine cars? Let's see, three Vauxhalls,a Jag and a Lincoln... I'm only up to 5. I assume the Lexus is gone. You're not having a Hyundai because you sell them are you? I would find that entertaining.

Is frankly what scares me to death about buying a used or CPO car. The car was leased, well taken care of, had no paint work, still under the factory warranty (not even a CPO warranty) & Bill KNOWS HIS STUFF when it comes to used cars. He still got a piece of junk!

Yeah but this can happen with any car really.

What annoys me was Lexus being atrocious to deal with. I will still never be silly enough to buy a brand new Luxury car, and ya know, I can deal with problems, big deal.

Car breaks? Under warranty? No problem, fix it. Now when the dealers and the manufacturer couldn't care less, that's when I get enraged. It's not so much the fact that the car has been a lot of trouble, as much as that Lexus has been so horrible about it.

It's not like I'm some schlub off the street, I have been doing this for 16 years, I know how to buy cars wholesale, I know how warranties work, etc.

So that's fine, it's going to cost them a whole pile of customers.

Yeah, a bit over a year ago I had some sleazeball get my wife into this 07 Camry that was a beauty off lease. What was the name of that rat? Oh, wait! It was Bill! :D

The car is fine. She put a lot of miles on it and it goes along with no complaint. Not my idea of a car but she loves it.

    HA!

Had a BEAUTIFUL one when I had the lot in Orlando... actually a few.

Had one, an 87, with like 40k original miles and a 5 speed, I forget miles but it was a GEM of a one owner. Had it on the lot for silly money, like $8,995 or so.. this was in 2004 or so. Guy was beating me up on the price.. claimed KBB was $5k or some nonsense. OK, go buy a 125k mile edgy car for that I thought.

30 days, no sale, threw it on eBay, $1 no reserve, did like $10k.

Except typically Lexus aren't junk like Bills is unless things have gone to hell with them recently and I didn't know about that.

Yet, he has had great luck with a Jaguar of all things? Go figure!

I've heard horror stories about some people who lease cars and literally drive the daylights out of them, never change the oil etc knowing they are going to bail out in three years.

Bill does know his stuff but some things are hard to spot.

EDIT: Just read Bill's comments about the DEALER and it sounds like that is a bigger problem than the car has been. I would have expected better from a high line store.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
I've been thinking now that the Koreans are building buch better cars than in the past that the resale wold improve but from all I hear, I guess this isn't the case. They do poorly at auction and even when bought for way back of book, the customers just walk past them on the lots.

Bill, do you think this will someday change?

Most likely doing over our master bath next month. Can we decided on a tub (finally), but am looking for some advice on options for the shower gear. Mostly, what is a model/brand that we can get from a plumbing supply (not doing the big box places) that has good bang for the buck (and I am trying to keep cost under control on this). Hey, you have a website?

anyway, I want to keep it relatively straightforward, with a top head, but 2 body sprays (from the front). And those I have no experience with.

are we better off with individual components (since we are gutting the shower anyway and have access to the wall) vs. one of those all in one external units?

as always, any help mucho appreciated.

    Craig,

Know ya think I'm nuts but we sold LOTS of them in Orlando and we really had VERY few issues, we had way more issues with BMWs and Mercedes than Jaguars.

Now, Land Rovers? Whole other story, but 95% of the people buying them knew exactly what they were getting themselves into.

As far as Hyundais, the market has really changed on them, you ought to see what they do at auction these days, I'll buy 20 truckloads back of Galves! Heck, I'll buy 20 truckloads AT Galves! Elantras in particular are bringing huge numbers at the sale, but again, I only buy 07 and newer stuff... but did just send 2 high mile 01 Santa Fe LXs to a local manheim sale, both brought BIG money.

Of course, this could be a reflection of the general used car market as a whole, which is insane anyhow.

Depends on the equipment. Right now I'm driving a base, no moonroof, no nav, just.. umm... leather and bluetooth. I think the buyout on it was around $19k. Ones with Navi and 18s are coming off around the 22k mark.

The Santa Fes and Sonatas are the ones to snag.. residuals are WAY back of what they're worth.

I remember what extended warranties sold for on used Jaguars. It was almost like they didn't even want to sell them. On Land Rovers, they refused to sell warranties at ANY price. Whenever we took one in, our GM made us wholesale it. We just got burned every time we took a chance on what we thought was an exceptional one.

From what I hear, the west coast is still very soft on anything Korean but I know how quickly the market can turn.

I've never seen a Galves book. Out here it's mostly NADA and sometimes Kelly.

The used market is nuts here too!
