Dave, you wouldn't be ex-law enforcement, would you? When I go shooting in Florida (not worth the hassle in NY) I see many LEOs using those.

No, but you're correct about LE. Mine is an ex FBI Model 22

I don't know about any of the others but getting shot once, from ANY gun, would stop me from doing anything but running away. I think it would be the same with most assailants

Originally we were going to pay cash, but they offered Subaru financing at 0.9% and we decided to invest our lump sum and take the financing.

Congrats on the new Subie, I’m sure you’ll like. We’re still getting used to our Legacy. Not even 1000 miles yet.

About that financing, you got a good rate at 0.9%. We were also going to write a check but the salesman told me about their financing when I called to inquire about the car from his email. Back in end of November of 2011 when we got the Legacy, Subie was offering 1.9% for up to 36 months and 2.9% for 37 months through 72 months. We decided to finance $15K at the 1.9%. This financing is new to us but the rate seemed too good to pass up, yours was even better. We’ve been fortunate to not have a car payment since 1983. Bought a few used cars way back but still no financing.

I made damn sure we didn’t finance the Genny because Mrs. jmonroe was not all that thrilled that I wanted to get that car. She just didn’t think I needed a new toy. So, I wasn’t about to give her monthly reminders. :surprise: The Legacy is her car so I don’t have to worry about that. Anyway, she was in on that decision.

Congrats again and let us have a couple reports as you mile it up. :D

I think it's pretty clear that there is no "America's Team." The Cowboys hung the title on themselves. No one else buys it.

It is odd how no matter where you go you will find Cowboys fans, Steeler fans, even Dolphin fans. I don't know what it is about those teams. Not like you find Seahawk fans anywhere but in the northwest.

Pittsburgh - 6 - 2 in Super Bowls. Amazing record, even if they shouldn't have been in that first one. Under the rules at the time it was not a catch. The same pass with today's rules would be a catch.

I can't remember which of you are youngsters (though I can remember which of you are oldsters :))

Are you a 20-something who recently bought a new car or who is right now in the market for a new car? A reporter is looking to talk with young Americans to see what they are looking for in their next new vehicle. Please contact pr@edmunds.com with contact information and a brief description of your experience by Friday, January 20, 2012.

"...Turns out it was a 2003...they would buy it for $4500..."
You should have bumped the offer to $4750 or even $5K.

That went through my mind too, but the fellow offering to buy was an older gentleman, 79 years old and he was a neighbor of the widow selling the car.....so I don't think she would have done that. He didn't put a down payment on the Ford, they just accepted his word that he would probably have the money the next day. If I wanted to scoop it I could have said $4900 and here's a down payment, but I think the fact they are neighbors still is the big factor.

I haven't heard so I guess he did get the money. That was my big hope, was that he couldn't get a loan.

I have a few negative thoughts, the biggest one is it looks huge, and I wonder if it will fit in the garage. I might measure the garage in case the deal didn't go through.

I know what you mean, I tried to post last night and gave up, now I don't remember what my pearls of wisdom were.

Many concealed carry experts agree with you. They recommend the tiny .22 Mini made by North American Arms. It weighs about 5 ounces but is very reliable, well made, and easy to carry.

The theory is that a small .22 like that is worth much more to you during a confrontation than a .45 back at home in a drawer.

    You got that right.

I’m a little confused here. If you’re talking about the Immaculate Reception playoff game in ’72, the Steelers did not go to the Super Bowl that year. They lost the championship game to the Dolphins the following week. That was the game the Dolphins punter (I believe his name was Sipes) ran the ball for a first down. I was at that game too and I might have been the only one in the stands not screaming, “TURN AROUND…TURN AROUND”.

The Steelers first trip to the Super Bowl was for the ’74 season then the following year too, both wins. Don’t ask me to name all the others…there are too many. :)

You are, of course, correct. I had been rooting for the Raiders in that game and because that play cost the Raiders advancing I always thought it cost them playing in the Super Bowl but those Dolphins were stunningly good back then.

OK, you can remove the asterisk....

The thing with the pass is it went directly from Frenchy to Franco without hitting a defender. In those days that would not be a complete pass. It had to hit a defender, in this case Jack Tatum, in between. It didn't but what the hey. It's really what set the Steelers up to become the incredibly strong frnachise they are after decades of being on the wrong end of the joke.

I wouldn’t worry too much about scooping up a car like that down there. They’re a dime a dozen and with the age of those folks another one will pop up before you know it. Heck, with the age of the guy that bought this one you might have another shot at it before you can blink. :surprise:

I agree. Since it is the older generation with the most money, you would think that they might be interested in what the older generation wanted. After all, we don't just own Cadillacs and Lincolns, or drive around in GM's. Many of us own Hondas, Chryslers, BMWs, Toyotas, Jeeps, Audis, Buicks, etc. Perhaps they think that we are so senile that we don't know what we want.

Oh, c'mon now! On the last request, we were looking for Buick Regal new owners.

We help find consumers for a wide variety of media outlets, for a wide variety of stories. Today, it's from a particular reporter looking for perspectives from 20-somethings. Tomorrow, it may be consumers interested in technology, consumers who have come back to one of the Big 3 after an absence, consumers who recently shopped for a new insurance company, consumers who had an easier/harder time getting auto financing, etc. I looked back, and this particular reporter is the same one who was looking for families in which the female head-of-household was in charge of car buying. There certainly hasn't been a shift in media interest, at least not among those we deal with, based on consumer age.

Who says it didn’t? The officials made that call because they thought it DID hit Tatum. All the play backs of that play that I have seen can’t prove it didn’t hit Tatum first. Even with all the cameras that they use today that play would still be suspect. Anyhoo, I liked it as it was called. I’ll never forget the crowd after that game. Perfect strangers were hugging each other. I never heard so much horn blowing after a game like I heard that day and I have been to many Steelers playoff wins. You had to be there to believe it.

It's really what set the Steelers up to become the incredibly strong frnachise they are after decades of being on the wrong end of the joke.

You’re darn right I liked it. I’m a homer, I admit it. You can’t believe how many bad calls the Steelers had go against them back in their old days. I’ll never forget the time a Steelers running back jumped over a would be tackler for a long gain. The play was called back because a flag was thrown for “hurdling”. It was in the rule book but never enforced until that game and there were other bad calls too. They just seemed to have a way of collecting them. Most bad teams do.

Yeah, the football gods owed them one that day and I’m not admitting that it was a bad call, either. ;)

Baghdatis seemed to be playing to the crowd after he broke the first raquet. He gets the raquets free from his sponsor, so he probably could care less how many he smashes.
