"...(Mustang) fast and comfortable but it left me cold..."

Could you expand on that a little? Are you judging it from a trackability viewpoint or was there something else it lacked?

It's not a track issue at all. It simply didn't excite me very much; for one thing it just felt a little big and heavy. The throttle response was a little lazy; it packs a lot of horsepower but you really have to stick your foot in it to get all the ponies. The steering was weighted nicely and very direct, but I never felt connected to it. I certainly didn't think it was a bad car, but when I finished my test drive, it didn't leave me with a "gotta have it" feeling.

My negative review of the Toyota dealership is what brought me here five years ago. The review may have had very little impact, but it made me feel great!

If you are back in Florida just shake your head and mutter "Yankees".

Good question, we are in Florida. I can't imagine a scene like that happening back in Canada. But then again, i wouldn't have believed it would happen here, or any where.

All the woman had to do was go around the display in the middle of the aisle, and she had a clear path. She didn't even have a cart, she had a basket.

About the electric car.....some of the gas powered cars or even better deisel engines get such good mileage I think there is too much that can go wrong with an electric car....and some tests say they aren't that inexpensive to run if you consider the cost of electricity. A car like a deisel Jetta can go over 700 miles on a tankful of gas and our neighbors Jetta went 250k miles and went for 11 years before it needed a repair. It's proven technology.

I haven't driven a Mustang though I would like to. But, I have driven a lot of different rental cars, Pontiacs, Buicks, Fusion, Yukon, Camry, RAV4 and you never feel as roadrunner said...connected. With a bmw you feel at one with the car, it fits you like a glove, it's like it is part of your clothing. That is what they do so well....for most people it doesn't matter that much, but for those who appreciate it, you don't get that feeling too often from other cars. The Passat is not too bad considering the cost, but it is a long ways from fitting like a glove.

I am sure expressing it here did make you feel better. If you had posted it on a "review" site such as Edmunds it may have helped someone else avoid that dealer.

I should probably have posted a review of Dealer A where I didn't buy my 535 because Rocko the manager didn't want to give a discount on a 2012 model, but Dealer B sold it to me for $6000 less! I think I will do that the first chance I get.

A tornado hit in my subdivision today. There were 4 or 5 houses damaged fairly severely. In my part of the neighborhood it was mostly minor roof damage. The house 2 houses down from me had a small piece of trim blown partly off. Several houses with blue tarp covering their roofs a little further down. This was a small isolated tornado.... skipped around a bit before dissapating. No damage to my house. I had been out looking at cars and missed the whole thing.

I'm glad your house escaped damage. I was driving down the Snyder in my son's car listening to Sirius XM so I didn't even know anything had happened. I came home and my wife(who had been subbing at my son's school) called and said she'd be late because of the tornado- which was news to me... :surprise:

brave man. I would not even think of a pure electric unless I never planned to be more than about 5 (tops 10) miles from my house.

And I had a spare gasser on hand!

keep in mind too that the range is under ideal conditions. Expect it to drop like a stone if you are driving in the winter in the single digits, and want to put the heat on!

"...and I had a spare gasser on hand..."

No problem there. My driveway looks like a used car lot.

I agree that the limited range is a big concern but I have a regular commute of about 24 miles round trip that I make twice daily for a total of 48 miles. In between trips I have 1-4 hours of downtime that I could use to top off the charge. I'd have 12 hours overnight to do the main re-charge.

A lot of ducks would have to line up for me to go this way but with premium gas at about $4.25 in my area the 100 mpg equivalent is tempting. If I could get a lease for under $300/mo I might be swayed.

OMG! That's scary and believe me as one who drives with my back turned to 50 teens, I know scary.

We get about 1 tornado a decade around here. Too many hills I guess. I can't imagine facing that every year. Even with the hurricanes in Florida you get some advance notice.

Glad everything is OK with your place. Last year a fluke tornado touched down in the Greensburg PA area that is not that far from where I work and where Son #1 lives. The hail that fell damaged the roofs of many homes in his development, his included. The roofing company vulchers were out in full force almost before the hail stopped. Of course they know MINOR damage vs. real damage. He got a new roof out of it that he would have had to replace in a couple years anyway. Let us know how many vulchers show up in you hood.

I had been out looking at cars and missed the whole thing.

Now when you tell Mrs. jipster you want to look at cars you'll get the green light, maybe. :confuse:

Had the one last year outside Amsterdam. That was only a few miles from my BILs house in Florida (town of, not state of!).

Hey Farmer, just curious, but is your bus equipped with a video camera now? starting to think it must be almost mandatory by now, with all the crazy stuff you hear about, and the serious need to CYA (yours and the schools).

we had that about 5 years ago. Our neighborhood was built with aluminum siding, so it dented. We knew about the hail storm, but it never occurred to us that the insurance company would pay to replace dinged siding (and IMO it was not that bad!). But, we ended up with not only new siding, but a new roof at no cost to us (the roof was about 15 YO and getting kind of worn looking).

well over 1/2 my neighborhood got done at the same time, many of them by the same 2 guys.

"...is your bus equipped with a video camera..."

Yes it is but when you need it it's never working. Recently, a teen fell on the floor and mom called screaming that it was due to my driving. I told the bosses to just pull the tape if they thought it was my fault. Of course they found the video system had no tape in it at the time.

One of our bus aides has been hauled into the police twice because of bogus accusations of abuse. Neither time was the multi- camera digital video system working on his bus.

I've been accused of everything up to and including kidnapping over the years and having cameras on the bus has yet to help me.

Just reminded me, my brother now has it down to 2 choices. A Versa or an Elantra. I had a Versa for one day as a loaner....bmw didn't have a bimmer to give me so they got the rental company to bring over a Versa....felt like driving a wagon.

When I took it back I told them you guys rent these things so you know we will come back and buy another BMW.

When I took it back I told them you guys rent these things so you know we will come back and buy another BMW.

When I took the Genny into my miserable excuse for a Hyundai dealer to have the drivers side seat heater repaired in January, I got a Kia Rio as a loaner. Since the clowns couldn’t fix it the first time, I had to take it back the following week so they could try again (they got it right that time, yipeeeeeee). About 2 days after I got it back the first time I got an email survey about my repair experience. In addition to telling them about the first try not repairing the problem I also let them know about the pathetic loaner they provided via the Enterprise Rental at this dealership’s mega complex. When the guy showed up from Enterprise the second time with an Altima I said, “oh, no Rio this time. What happened”? He said, “there was a note in our system in bold type that said DO NOT PROVIDE A RIO TO THIS CUSTOMER AGAIN !!!

I didn’t complain when I picked up my car the first time but since they gave me an email survey to rate my experience and they asked that I be honest when taking it, they gave me no choice. The survey might have worked for the second try at repairing the problem and to my surprise it even worked for giving me a real loaner the second time.

enough of this purchase talk. It just depressed me. Though I did find a 2008 CPO 3 series that I really liked. Too bad I already bought the volvo.

anyway, decided to take our spring vacation as a driving one (otherwise 1/2 the cost would have been to airfare!) Going to drive from NJ to Nags Head NC (outer banks), then spend 4 nights there (probably getting in around dinner time, so 3 full days to hang out and explore). Should be about a 7 hour trip.

Please feel free to post any and all suggestions about things to do in that area (day trips are fine, as long as not too far away!)

then we will drive up to Williamsburg Va. early morning after checking out, spend that day doing stuff, stay that night, and hang out the next day doing more stuff. Probably will drive back home after dinner (on a Friday evening) so just 1 night there.

I really should splurge and buy the BMW for the trip. Just haven't convinced my wife that dumping the van for another sedan is a good idea, though if she drove it, and it would be hers, she might relent!

driving should not be too bad. The trip down is probably going to be about 7 hours, but coming back will be broken up into segments.

I thought if we were leaning towards a Passat a Forester might be worth trying as well. Seems you can only get it as a manual in the base model.

The base model seats are low and hard to adjust, you have to crank and crank, and even then it doesn't go up very high. My wife who is average height couldn't see the hood.

I was in the passenger seat and I am 5'10" but couldn't make the seat high enough to be comfortable. I don't know why it was designed that way, there's lots of headroom and the car has huge windows, but the eye level is just over the instrument panel. Also lots of cheap plastic around the dash, and the steering wheel adjustment lever feels like it could fall off.

No use trying it out, it was no match for the Passat. After that experience I have much more appreciation for the Passat.

Hope your ok today! we went to the BIL/SILs gated community clubhouse for an entertainer. His name is Steve Jeffris and he put on an amazing show....he has a great voice, tells lots of stories and jokes, involves the audience, and sings some great 60s music. Mostly a bit country, but all enjoyable (hope that's not an oxymoron).

Tickets were $6 and the community gets a dollar, and he gets $5, so I figure he made about $500 for the night. btw, entertainment starts at 6:30 so everyone can be home and in bed by 9 pm around here.

He has a route, and travels the same circuit each year. It was a very enjoyable show, and I am sure this fellow loves his job.

You would like to be in Florida, you play music, you could carry your equipment around in your car, and $500 bucks a nite ain't bad!

My curiosity got the better of me today and I filled out one of those "get a quote" things on the Mitsu web site for a lease on their electric car. Any of you have success in getting any useful information that way?

I'm afraid that now I'll get the "come on down" e-mails and calls at all hours without getting any real info.

come on down" e-mails and calls

That's what the quote request will produce. And it will go to the nearest dealer whether that is your first choice or not.

They'll quiz you about a trade, when you will be buying. Pretty much everything about them making dollars and very little about price or product.

I put in my request for pricing on a 2013 Mustang and the system told them I wanted a 2012. Exactly what I didn't want.

"The system" might have told them you wanted 2013, but by the time it got to a desk of a salesman, the information was lost. Unfortunately, the internet depts. have terrible track record of actually reading the requests. I suspect, it is low end secretary/receptionist who would not know difference between Mustang and Fusion is taking your request than writes on a small piece of paper a note with your phone number and vague description. You took half hour to write what you wanted, he/she tokk 20 seconds to hand write a note to the "up" salesman.

Now that's the smart way to do it. Some businesses work on the theory of keeping costs down and try to make a larger profit that way, others have the vision to see how to sell even higher priced products, and really make a profit.

Steve, I found some info today that reminded of you and your present location. It seems that S.C. Johnson (the floor wax people) from Racine, WI were large contributors to Cornell University back in the 1880s. Land (2300 acres) and money ($500k) which later became the proprietor of Whiit (sp?) Hospital from which Sloan Kettering is derived because of Cornell's teaching function. If I read this correctly, you're actually on Cornell property donated by SC Johnson.
Sounds like you should be buying Johnson Wax for your floors and cars.

Today is so far much better than today. I woke up with an appetite for the first time in days and no nausea. I am now on my last chemo. And then they hit me again with the Rabbit serum goop. Then that's the last of it until Wednesyday.

Good people doing dedicated work. I'm on the front lines of treatment which if you have to be somewhere is the place to be.

then we will drive up to Williamsburg Va. early morning after checking out, spend that day doing stuff, stay that night, and hang out the next day doing more stuff.

We went to Williamsburg in late July of 2005 with both sons and their families (grandson #1 was 3 1/2, grandson #2 was 1 1/2 and grandson #3 was 8 months). The first day we went to their water park. The plan for the second day was to go to the theme park. When I heard how hot it was going to be the second day, not that the first day was cool mind you, it was 98 F, I chickened out. I said I wasn’t going to cook my brain walking around on hot asphalt all day so I was going to the pool again. The girls agreed with me because they didn’t think it was a good idea to roast the kids at the theme park. Both of my sons went anyway, by themselves. The water park made an announcement over their PA system around 3 PM thanking all the people that were at the pool for helping them set an all time attendance record that day. It was 105 F and their huge wave pool was almost wall to wall people.

As we were leaving the water park at about 4 PM we bump into both sons on their way in. They said they were looking forward to cooling off. I said, “good luck finding a spot to lay out your towels and even better luck trying to find a spot in the pool” and back to the hotel the ones with the common sense went.

To this day when either of them does something that is questionable their mother says, “yeah, I know when it all started”.

Well, i feel a lot more like I do now than did a few hours ago.....

Of course I meant that I felt better today than yesterday. It's getting closer but today is still the better day.

Stick - in Williamsburg forget the 6 Flags portion (though I've not been there) and head to Colonial Williamsburg. You'll never see too much. It's interesting as all get out on lots of levels.

At the Outer Banks do no miss the Wright Brothers Memorial. It's hard to miss anyway and may well be the most popular attraction there but it's not crazy crowded and is interesting as all get out. Walking the paths of those first four flights is a goose bump moment.

Anyway, if any of you might be in the neighborhood here's a chance to donate blood or platelets directly me to me. I'll be needing them over the next few weeks a lot. Platelets are not type specific and for at least the next 2 weeks I will be AB positive, the universal recipient, so all can play! driver's cells could get the feel of the vein!

If for any reason your dedicated donation can't be used for me but is still good they'll use it on the SK system in my name.

    Here goes:

Morris County Library had a lot of craziness back in the day - loads of political tug of war but I loved working there. Unfortunately the position I was in was only funded for 18 months with guarantee of that changing. At 14 months I bailed and ended up in Bloomfield - a job I didn't care for. I'd have been happy to stay in Morris County my whole career.

For anyone interested, this is from the Sloan Kettering folks. It's an opportunity to donate blood or just platelets specifically to me. They lable it special and as long as it can be used for me it will be. If for some reson-

    Hello Stephen,

I am writing regarding coordinating a blood drive for you. Attached is the e-mail appeal letter to be distributed to family, friends and colleagues. You may wish to add a personal note so recipients know this is a bona fide request.

It is important that all donors meet the eligibility criteria. The criteria for whole blood and platelets is the same. Please note that the e-mail appeal contains our web site where donors can access donation criteria: www.mskcc.org/blooddonations
All blood types are acceptable. Directed donations must be made in our Donor Room. Whole blood donations take about one hour and can be stored for twenty five days after testing. Platelets take approximately 2½ hours for the entire process and can be stored for only five, two of which are used for testing. Therefore it is important to spread out the donations so they do not all expire on the same dates. Small groups can be arranged.

Please contact me if you require any additional information for this worthy effort. Your willingness to distribute an appeal to let people know about the need for blood and platelets is greatly appreciated.

definitely planning to do the wright bros. tour.

and we most likely are going to skip the theme park. My daughter will go on a few things, but not the really fun ones (though she may have changed that the last time she went to great adventure). But my wife won't. so either I am off by myself waiting on line for coasters, or my wife is by herself waiting for us.

so considering how little we will actually go on, not really worth the $200+ it will cost for 1 day's worth of tickets.

I can kill that much time doing parts of williamsburg, Jamestown, etc. And they have an outlet mall if the girls get restless (it is me, my wife, and 16 YO daughter this trip).

Or I can go to work, since we have an office in Chesapeake, and I have friends there!

we may leave mid-afternoon to head home, if I don't want to wait until after dinner to make the entire trip.

I'll take the Rabbit convertible if Fezo doesn't want it. One of the last cars I could actually work on probably (since I can actually see and reach the engine parts, and even know what most of them are). Plus it comes with a handy carry handle!

And, if it is anything like my brothers old Rabbit, you'll have lots to work on.
