Went back to test drive the blue Fusion after work today.
It is a FWD model. The one I drove yesterday was AWD.
It drove very well, felt much lighter and livelier than the other one.
Went back into the show room and gave him my registration and he called for my payoff.
This was before one word was discussed about any pricing.
It was kind of strange, but I was OK with it.
He leaves and comes back with the 4 square.
I only really look at 2 squares, the one with the selling price and the other with the trade in value.
Selling price is 800 over invoice - 1500 rebate. Trade in is 27k.
I start out saying I want 2k off MSRP and more for my trade, telling him I checked Black Book, KBB and NADA and that matched the lowest number in average condition and my vehicle was way above average condition.
I also mention that another local dealer has the same car. although black instead of blue.
He shows me the invoice and says 2k off is right at invoice and HE makes no money, also there are some good lease deals on new Explorer.
Countering, he says how about 500 over and I try to get you another 2k on your trade?
Of course I say ok. He comes back with 500 over invoice and 28k for my Explorer.
After thinking about it for a minute, It's a deal.
I want my wife's name on it, so she needs to fill out a credit app, so I still have to go through F&I, but I should be able to pick it up on Thursday.

slide in ranges sound like panel ready dishwashers. Few choices, and they are all top of the line.

But a slide in sure looks purdy. And, since you have to look at it for about 15 years I think it is worth the extra cost. Using driver dollar cost averaging it may cost $50 a year to have a really nice slide in stove.

It’s a lot more than just wanting it and being able to afford the range itself. I don’t know how your kitchen is laid out but the ones I’m familiar with you can’t just yank out a standard 30 inch floor stand up range and plop in a slide-in. The slide-in has to rest on the counter top and that top has to be carefully cut so that the slide-in rests on it without falling through. I’ve talked to several builders over the years and when a customer wants an island or a peninsula for a slide-in they have to be very careful when they send their measurements to the counter top maker. I don’t think you have more than ¼ inch to play with. It can get downright frightful when the counter top is going to be granite like almost all of the tops are today.

sharp looking. I assume titanium means the 2.0l engine?

Maybe I am just an old fogey (or maybe it is living with bomb crater roads), but I still think 19" wheels are ridiculous for a family sedan. As are the super low profile tires that come with it!

are you talking about a cooktop? What does the countertop have to do with a slide in range like in the picture? That is basically just a normal range without the back piece.

we considered those when we redid the kitchen (designer liked them) but decided to keep our old (but fairly new, and higher end) range. We also worried about not having a back, and spilling down behind it.

Congrats, great looking car and I think you got it at a good price. You went in well armed so they knew you knew what you were doing and it seems they didn't olay around. I don't mind a dealer making a reasonable profit, it is better for me if they stay in business.

Not that much more really if you get a more basic model. It is nice not having to reach over pots and pans to adjust a dial. Our Florida stove has a back on it.......makes me think they came out with backs on stoves maybe 70 years ago, and no one thought of a better way to make a stove in all this time.

STUPENDOUS! You knew I knew you were going to have a sales story tonight. Beautiful car - Ford has come a long way in their styling and design. The price seems right - more importantly, you seem happy and excited. Fuel economy will be great. Color is perfect, explorer.

You mentioned your wife was not emotionally involved in the decision - what did she say?

Much enjoyment and luck for you and the Mrs. On your new, great looking wheels!

a slide-in they have to be very careful when they send their measurements to the counter top maker.

Now, that is all true.....you have to be installing a new counter top in most cases. They can fix up the front a bit so there isn't a gap.

You also need a really good counter guy who can measure accurately. But, I still say they look real purdy.

If done properly the back of the stove and the sides rest a bit on the top of the counter. Nothing will spill behind because there is no gap behind or on the sides.

JM is right though, you have to do it when you are building or remodeling your kitchen because it looks built in. It has a sleeker design without that back sticking up. Controls are all easy to use.....best if there aren't little kids around though that can reach the dials.

Explorer, I like the looks of that car. That Shelby looking grill gets me every time. It's just a great design.
My question is what was wrong with the Explorer? Did 2011 have a feature or two that didn't measure up? Tired of SUVs? Also, Is 2.0 the ecoboost engine?
Looks like you got everything you wanted with the Fusion. Sharp car (and new too).

    Yes, I am excited.
When I bought the 11 Explorer, it was out of a perceived need.
It never wow'ed me, but it's a terrific vehicle and I took very good care of it.
It had some features that were new to me, touch screen, power tailgate, SAT radio.
Someone is going to get a very nice ride.
The Fusion has paddle shifters, push button and remote start, and a 4cyl turbo engine, most of which are new to me.
I had a Ford with a 4cyl turbo, back in 1983, so that's not exactly new.
My wife knows me and sometimes I just buy a new car for reasons she doesn't understand.
Once she sees it and drives it, I'm sure she will like it, too.

    Mako,
I still have my 02 Explorer. It's been through a lot but still gets the job done.
It's what we drive when the weather is at it's worst and everyone in our family still loves it.
I figure the Fusion can sit in the garage just as well as the 11 Explorer did, when the weather is bad.
The 11 Explorer was actually very good in bad driving conditions, but I treated it like it was a Diva.
Factoring in going back to a car was that despite 3 rows of seats in the Explorer, my youngest finally outgrew it and I don't think we will going on too many vacations in the same vehicle any more.
I traded in a Fusion when I bought the 11, a couple of years ago.

My wife knows me and sometimes I just buy a new car for reasons she doesn't understand.

My wife, may she rest in peace, was such a wonderful woman and human being. I can't tell you the many, many times I would call her from a dealership, informing her that I had just bought a new car. She always said to me, "...do what you want - I can't stop you, but tomorrow I want to go shopping and I'll buy everything I want and you won't say a word! Or you can keep the car you have and I won't go on a shopping spree!"

Needless to say, she went on many a shopping spree. Sometimes I would have a dealer deliver two new cars to the house - one for me and one for her. That caught her by surprise a few times, but that go old fast!

She was a gem - never fought with me over my buying new cars because I brought home a nice income - we had a beautiful 4 bedroom two story custom built house, sent two kids to college, and there were always two new cars in the garage. And when the kids started driving, we had two more cars in the driveway.

    Gosh I miss her!

Unfortunately, she died at the age of 49 of breast cancer. It was horrible.

The 2014 E350 is much better looking in the new sport sedan version. I didn't order the white this time because they discontinued the natural beige leather. So I changed the color to silver with black leather. If everything goes as expected (special USAA Pricing and financing incentives and trade value) I will get it on or about May 1st. If not, I'll keep this one - as you said it is a beautiful car.

I actually love the way the C class looks, especially in dark blue. Very sharp, and perfectly sized for me. If I had the $ for something that nice, and wanted a sedan, I would certainly look hard at a C along with a 3 series.

My Accord had black leather. hated it, and will avoid going back if at all possible. Would have to be a heck of a deal on something to get me to do that again.

actually, I really like having cloth seats again in the Integra. No more freezing cold leather, and come summer, no more searing my legs on it.

tjc, I got the black perforated leather with ventilated seats. I had black leather ventilated seats in my 2012 - no problem - and the seats don't show the dirt. As long as they are ventilated, there's no problem down here.

Slight correction; a slide-in range rests ENTIRELY on the sides and back cutout of the counter top not just "a bit". Like I said, probably not more than 1/4 inch to play with so make sure you have a sharp ruler when you take your measurements. The old rule of measure twice and cut once came from a guy who screwed up a slide-in range installation.

'stick'...I hope you get the idea now and yes they are top of the line like panel insert dishwashers. No wiggle room when you get one, in more ways than one.

Unfortunately, the only interior leather they offer is black, very light gray and light beige. Have to order leather because ventilated seats requires the leather option. I'll have the car tinted as well and it comes with rear power sunshade. Like I said, I had silver with black leather and it was no hotter than what I have now. When I park the car in the sun, I cover the two front seats with a beige beach towel which also reduces the effect of the sun's heat.

I will take your word for it, and next time I am at Lowes I will take a close look.

I just don't see where on this there is a lip to fit over the countertop. It looks like a normal range, which is supposed to be even with the top of the counter, not sitting above it.

Speaking of new models, I just got back from pumping $65 of Shell 93 Octane into my BMW. While gassing up, a guy in a new F30 328xi Sport Line pulls up behind me. He notices me checking out his ride. I ask if he likes it.

Mercedes-Benz definitely knows how to style a car. They are all drop dead gorgeous. I dig the C-Class as well. They make a C300 4Matic Sport that has some sharp design details - twin spoke 17" wheels, Mercedes-Benz brake calipers, led daytime running lights, that big 3 pointed star in the grill (that used to be for Coupes only back in the day). I saw a C63 AMG today (White) & Wooooooooooooo it was smokin hot! The exhaust note was super sexy.

The E like I said is the quintessential timeless & elegant MB sedan. 15 years from now, it will still be a pretty car.

I agree that the photo does not show a lip and I noticed that too. But if you buy a slide-in it WILL have a lip. Think about it, if it sat on the floor the floor would have to be perfectly level which most floors aren't that is why standard ranges do have adjustable pads at the bottom of them. A slide-in, or sometimes called a drop-in, rest on the counter top. At least that is the way I saw them and we had one.

not a great picture, but to me, that is just a cooktop, not a slide in range the way I was thinking (and what the pic I reposted looked like) which was basically a range without a flat top and no back.

yours certainly was one that dropped in, more like cutting a sink into the countertop.

In addition to the nice USAA ($2000) discount you get, when they want to, MBUSA can throw some serious incentive weight around. Loyalty bonuses, competitive ownership incentives. I keep saying I want to buy my next ride, but if the C-Class is getting ready for a redo, I might have to check out what MB has to offer.

I think we are discussing two different ranges.... A drop-in is different from a slide-in... A slide-in rests on the floor, while a drop-in has a cabinet frame underneath of it... It looks "built-in", like a Sub-Zero fridge...

Our last house had been a home-show house, and had an upgraded kitchen (well, upgraded for 1981, when the house was built). It had a Jenn-Air drop-in range, with the one side that could be converted to a grill, with a downdraft vent...

    image

That is a slide-in.. you can sort of see the lip.... I don't think they make drop-in ranges, any more..

The trick on mine was that you could replace the bottom access panel with some cabinet material and it would look like a drop-in. But, like dishwasher panels, few people bothered to change it out.

Yes, the picture is probably photoshopped or something to make the stove look smoother. I could be wrong, but the stove sits on the counter like you said, but, I believe the legs are quite adjustable too...in case the counter isn't straight.

Not sure how wide a standard counter is, but the stove is an inch or two less than that. Should slide right in...just like ah er glove.

At last, the definitive answer, provided with pics. Apparently, the only "drop in" now a days is just the cook top, sans oven.

I could be wrong, but one website said drop in or slide in are interchangeable terms.

I think the two pictures shown should logically be called a slide in with the latter a drop in, but I am not sure you can get drop ins any more, so maybe the name just became interchangeable.

I like that drop in one even more though, really looks like it is all built in and sleek...sure does look purdy.

Maybe we need a new topic.......stoves and ranges.

I think we are discussing two different ranges.... A drop-in is different from a slide-in... A slide-in rests on the floor, while a drop-in has a cabinet frame underneath of it...

You beat me to the punch. I got up thinking about this (yes, this place can do that to you) and it dawned on me that we had a drop-in range not a slide-in and I made the same mistake that a lot of people do by interchanging the names. However, our drop-in did not have a “cabinet frame” below the range. It had a lip like I described and it rested entirely on the lips that were on both sides and the back. It sat almost to the floor and it had an adjustable trim piece on the lower front to allow it to touch the floor, just like a dishwasher has.

A little tale about the critical dimensions for a drop-in:

When we moved to SC and had our house built, I was making a LOT of changes to the kitchen along with every other part of the house. At one point I showed my markups to the builder for a different room other than the kitchen and when he saw it he asked if when I got to the kitchen would I be making a change to the counter tops for a range. I said yes why do you ask. He told me that he just wanted to let me know that if we wanted a drop-in range I HAD to have the range in my possession before he went to the cabinet company to give them the cutout dimension for the counter top because he had been bitten twice by relying on info that the home owner had given him that came from the appliance store. So he wanted to take the dimensions from the range himself to be sure it would be right. I told him I knew what he meant but we were going with a standard freestanding range. He proceeds to tell me the worst one was a typical Formica top that had to be scrapped but the solid surface Corian top (the rage at that time) could be repaired by the counter top people by gluing on a few strips of the same counter top material that was left over. They then ground it down and polished it and he said you could never tell where the glued on strips were placed. But like I said the Formica top was a goner, no fixing that sucker.

Sorry for the confusion but I think I should get partial credit.

explorer...now THAT'S a nice ride. Love it! Congrats! I love what Ford has done with that car.

Thanks all for the stove recommendations. I'm looking at a Frigidaire Gallery model (not sure of the model number). But, it's stainless. For good or ill, it has a convection oven. And, it's supposed to have some sort of slef clean feature that uses steam instead of heat for cleaning (don't quite understand how that works yet).

kyfdx....found it at Recker in Springdale. Not a $1,000 but not far from it @ $869 open box. Thanks for the tip.

After getting some help on the worth of my BMW (thanks qbrozen), it looks like $37K, or there abouts is the number. I'm going to ask $38K and be willing to drop a little bit.

I'm supposed to talk to the neighbor (actually, a person who doesn't live on my cul-de-sac, but still in the neighborhood) tonight and let him drive it.

I think those are random sexy pictures with random blurbs above to try to make them titillating so people will click on them.

I don't know where they lead if someone does click on them; I'm not brave enough to click even with Norton Internet Security working to protect against bad stuff.

Maybe they only show those to nonmembers who don't have a site cookie who link in to view pics?

Your description makes it sound a bit nefarious

There are 3 pictures across the bottom all of young ladies, first not wearing too much but she is dressed. 2nd picture has 2 ladies one with pinkish hair. 3rd, I forget.

Did anyone else get these? Maybe my computer lets in that stuff for some unknown reason

When I surfed for a place to host the stove pic, that site looked quick and dirty. Guess it was.
