When you get your Toleration Badge, I want the Endurance Badge for reading all posts and never skipping any.

Thanks GG. I'm with you. I would much prefer a knob for the controls. The Voice Command is a good idea. I could live with that. Glad to hear that it drives and performs well. That would be my main focus.
Richard
Thanks again! That was a great review and I enjoyed seeing it. Looks like the ATS is a fine luxury car.
Richard
Thanks! That was quite informative. The car is back in my good graces thanks to you and GG.

As usual, when we get a real sales tale, I’m busy with something else.
C’mon now, does it really have a V10? I’m more jealous then ever if it did.
Congrats on the purchase. Sounds like that rig is going to get you a lot of tickets.

I think the mileage is around 90K, which is just fine. We don't put that many miles on it per year, probably short of 10K, so if we talk sweet to her and let her drink all of her favorite fluids, she should last awhile. No chance of changing the green color. Our previous vehicle was a much uglier shade of green - more of a teal than a darker green - and we lived with it. As I mentioned, it will be used to tow and launch the boat, and occasionally move the camper (it's in a year-round spot right now), so we didn't buy her for her looks
Also, when the previous truck was purchased, we had younger & smaller kids who occasionally sat in back. Now we only have 2 teenage boys who sometimes ride, and they're now 15 & 17, so the old tiny back seat was extremely uncomfortable. This one's like a limo in comparison.

It can't be uglier than my brother-in-laws Ford Ranger that was about 20 years old. He is a very cheap thrifty person and he painted his truck pea soup green...with a roller!
He still has a black rotary phone (only one in the house) because he pays the lowest rate possible. The phone company here has to honor that old phone...they would love to make him give it up. I really like him, but Ifeel sorry for his wife..who puts up with all the cost saving schemes.
How about an answer to JMonroe.....is it really a V10?

That was an interesting video. I applaud Cadillac for the huge change in direction they have taken. Most of their "traditional" buyers of the past are either dead or in nursing homes.
No more Sedan De Villes with thick padded roofs and Vogue "Tyres"
I was also reminded of how much I grew to despise going on test drives and some of the things
people would do to "test" cars!
Yeah....even the video of the test drive was pretty interesting, too.
Oops, I missed that question. Yes, it is really a V10. When I was trying to price it out before we bought, I couldn't find a Crew Cab V10. Turns out it is not a separate trim level listing for Ford. You have to start with a V8, then along the way, V10 is an option. We have that option

I would love to get a rotary phone, not as a cost cutting measure but because for whatever reason I like them.

I want a rotary phone. Ebay has thousands in all shapes, sizes and colors --- you can get one cheap.
Painted it with a roller...
When my first car, a 69 Plymouth started getting chips in the paint I went to the Chrysler dealer and managed to get a quart of the metallic green original paint. While I was trying to figure out how to apply it without expensive equipment, my father snuck in and applied it with a PAINT BRUSH!
He was only trying to help but I went ballistic. I realized later that I deeply hurt his feelings and felt bad...still do.
It did look terrible.

Two things I'd like to know:
I've been having a hard time getting accurate info on the weight of the 2015 Mustang. Some say weight reduction, some say not. I see figures as low as 3100 lbs. up to Edmunds who say 3700 lbs. (which would be an increase from the current 3500-3600).
Who's got the straight dope?
Also:
Read some Internet story that said VW is planning on closing a plant in TN. BECAUSE the workers rejected allowing the UAW to unionize the plant. 13,000 workers might be laid off?
Doesn't sound right. You would think keeping a union out would be a plus for VW. Why would they close the place?

While cheap it would be a waste of money as we do not have a landline, haven't for a long time.

Yep that story is out there but it's from a satire site.

oldfarmer, I can't help with the weight of the Mustang, but I saw an ad today from Ford posted 26 Feb, 2013 that there are 50 days left until the 2015 Mustangs hit the lots. That puts it about 15-18 April just like 1964.

That ATS looks pretty good, The one thing I don't like about it is the euro style (flush) rims.
Maybe Driver can sign up to be in one of their videos. They are in the GTA.

Yeh, I noticed that. Budds has a BMW dealership, as well as Mini, Jaguar, GM and a few others. I still go to Budds for service, their service department is pretty good and it is my closest BMW dealer.....but, they only sell cars at full MSRP and act like they are doing you a favor by allowing you to buy one from them.
I don't think they would allow me to make a video. I guess they walk a fine line...they are trying to push bmw, Cadillac, Jaguar. In the video the test guy said the car was as good as European luxury cars........not better!

I think I could as well assuming the dealership set it up for me. Still wouldn't want to pay thousands extra for it.

@oldfarmer, that is pretty much why they created SS in the first place. At least I tell myself that. I am too young for SS, but I do have a pension from a former employer that I can start taking if I want to (reduced payout of course not being up to full retirement age). And yes, it has crossed my mind, but at this point more likely I fire that up to pay college tuition (assuming I want to eat too for the next 4 years)

Nice, not to far from me there is a pretty good sized auto museum, when the grandson gets older I will be taking him there.
Several years ago they got into a scuff with Ford Motor Co. over their domain name. It was one letter less than what Ford set up for Volvo. It's the Volo Auto Museum in Volo, IL their website is volocars.com.
BTW they do sell classic cars, I have dibs on this one.

That is one beautiful collection of cars. He even has a gas station with a Corvair at the pumps. I wonder how much that collection is worth? Doubt if he makes enough from admissions to cover the costs. Just the Corvette display alone would be worth seeing. The floors were immaculate. Thanks for passing on.

I have a nice government pension coming but I'll have to keep working if I want to have toys. What a dilemma, can't access it without quitting. Since I'm not at full SS retirement age I'll have to give a lot back on SS. Just hoping it will be enough to do the monthly payment because the wife just said "I hope you don't expect ME to pay that bill like that Eclipse".
You see, she feels that her money is her money and our money is her money and my money is her money too.
In the end collecting SS will change nothing except having a few hundred bucks extra each month.

Well, as soon as you become "former fire retired to Fla. living large after selling the farm" (doesn't that roll off the tongue?) you can buy yourself a fleet of low mile old man mobiles to keep yourself occupied. Or that Bentley from the other day.

"Since I'm not at full SS retirement age I'll have to give a lot back on SS."
Back in 2004, when I turned 60, I took my retirement pension early because by age 72 (3 years from now) I would break even in terms of retirement pension rate and accumulated total payout. Good thing I did because Illinois just changed its pension statutes which will reduce my annual cost of living increase by 70% (from $1500 to $455 yearly).
I also took my SS at age 63 instead of 66 - and my break even on that will also be age 73.
With my health the way it is, it was the best thing I did - taking SS and pension early.
We all know that the government will have to change the way SS is paid out on order to keep it solvent in the next 10 years so hopefully those already collecting benefits won't be affected.
It's not always best to wait until full retirement age to collect pensions and SS because of the austerity measures that will be implemented on the near future.

Nothing will change on our pensions in Illinois until the lawsuit is settled. The legislature shortchanged the pension fund and spent the money to feather their nests, pay for pet projects and take care of friends and family. I look for a compromise ----- you can more than make up for any lost raises by driving a Chevy instead of a Mercedes.
" you can more than make up for any lost raises by driving a Chevy instead of a Mercedes."
Was that comment meant to slap me in my face because I choose to drive a Mercedes instead of a Chevy? WELL, I TOOK IT AS A SLAP IN THE FACE!!!
I would never comment to another poster in that way. Very nasty comment.
When posters get personal, it's time for Edmunds to intervene!

Brother, you read my mind. Old man mobiles a plenty! Not the Bentley though, I'd be afraid of it getting smashed or stolen. I will play with the idea of buying every car I ever wanted for 10% or less of it's original price.
My fantasy is to buy these old gems down there, use them for about a year and then give them away to my kids or relatives' kids when I come up to visit. I'd be very popular with the young folks and have a constant excuse to go shopping.

Exactly! The NYS pension system is currently fully funded with $160 billion in reserves if you can believe the crooks running it. Social security.....not so sure, that's why I'm grabbing for the gusto. I don't want to wait so long that I'm using my money for a caretaker.
And I sure don't want to be a Florida news story because I drove my Mustang through the local convenience store.

I put a wink after the post.I wasn't being serious --- I'm in the same boat as you with the Illinois pension issue. Sorry you took it seriously. My fellow retired teachers are constantly pinching each others shoes about the cola adjustment issue. Enjoy you Mercedes.
I've never heard that expression. Does it mean teasing each other, or something like that?

If you ever had to walk in shoes that were a bit too small, the phrase becomes clear. I do like your interpretation, Driver,it takes it to a new level.
I think he was bustin' yer chops, Mike. Heck, I'm independently wealthy and I drive a Ford. Enjoy the MB knowing you may edge even the Mustang horsepower wise. I'll check on that.
2013 Mustang GT, 2001 GMC Yukon Denali
Now I'm confused. I thought 550 was a specific engine with x horsepower. E63 AMG package has 550 HP, CLS 550 has 408 HP. Which one is yours. (should I bow out gracefully or hit the gas when I pull up next to you?)
Is this an interior or what?

I really enjoyed that link. There were so many vintage cars for sale. I looked up a bunch of makes and models and enjoyed myself so much. Thanks for that hour of pleasure.
We're leaving in the morning to take my BIL to his home in Florida for the last time. He's lost 15 lbs. in the last two weeks. The doctors told us yesterday that if we didn't leave now that he wouldn't make it down there in another two weeks. We'll drive back next Saturday if all goes well. My wife and I are entertaining Miss N.C. the following Tuesday at our home. We can't stay longer than Saturday unless we fly home and then fly back to Florida. We're willing to do whatever my sister and BIL want. His enjoyable time is the most important thing. Also, I don't want my sister traveling alone with him for ten hours. She might need us. It will be a tough trip but we're putting our best face on it. We want them both to enjoy the trip as much as possible. I'll see all of you in a week or so. Take good care.
Richard
Richard, you and your family will be in our prayers. Take solace when you can.

Well, it looks like another winter storm is headed for the Ohio Valley; we are expecting rain, freezing rain, sleet, and snow- how much of each we actually receive depends on the actual track of the storm. We could be looking at up to 0.5 inch of ice and over 6 inches of snow. The Wrangler is locked and loaded, both Stihl chainsaws are good to go, and we have two racks full of firewood. Here's hoping we don't lose power, but if I drop off the grid for a day or so you will know what happened...

Mike, you have to roll with the comments...it wasn't a personal attack. Humor has a fine edge to it...I give people a lot of credit when they attempt it, because when it works it really works (snake is at the top of his game lately), but, occassionally it can backfire or be taken as a personal put down.
I have some friends who rely on making comments that may be considered put downs, but, they can be very amusing. These are good friends who would come down to the police station in the middle of the night to bail me out - not that that has ever happenned or probably will happen - but, you know what I mean. Just roll with it, it wasn't personal. If the stock market tanks I could be driving a Smart Car instead of a bmw.

The last big storm we thought we would be spared and got 18". This time they say your storm will miss us entirely. I hope I didn't just jinx myself.
As tired as I am of snow, I am really fed up with the salt. Last Saturday I took the Eclipse out to wash the garage dust off it and circulate the fluids since it's been stuck in the garage for months. It had poured the whole day before so I thought the salt was pretty well washed off the roads.
What I didn't realize was that the town has salted again for black ice overnight and my poor car came home covered. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr

RB...just came back from Fresh Market. Good news, not many people out. Bad news, roads are very slick. Didn't bother my car, but I saw a ton of cars off the road.
Time to stoke the fire in the fireplace all day. Chicken soup is on the stove.

It is always best to walk a mile in the other persons shoes when an argument is brewing. First, by walking a mile you get out of harms way, and second, your have managed to get yourself a new (different) pair of shoes. Win-win for you.
