Evenings are great, but I find few old timers who drive at night - reduced vision of older eyes. When I was a teenager, my folks bought a '65 Bug that had a Baja conversion kit on it. It had a 6V electrical system which never worked right. When I moved on to my next car, my sister started driving the Bug, and my dad and uncle converted the electrics to 12V. Problem solved!

You need to consider the politicians who have made themselves into a House of Lords, immune from the same laws as the rest of us and thoroughly overpaid, overluxuried (is that a word?), and funded for any retirement by our money. Reminds me of the statement made by a mechanic balancing my wheels in the 70s (to bring this to auto-related stuff) when he talked about the relatively low pay of the sheriff's deputies in the county but they told him it included all you can steal.

Do you have only one space?!!! When I had a condominium near Cincy, I had two spaces, plus open spaces not in front of other condos which were for visitors. I also had my garage which most condos didn't have.

Of course, I remember my college roommate who had to stop to adjust the valves on his 60s beetle when he drove to and fro college at BS U.
Yes, just 1 space per unit. We do have guest spaces, but they are always full. One unit has 3 cars and of the 48 units, at least 10 have round-the-clock aides because of age and health. So it would be difficult to park an extra car - besides, having two cars would be out of the question unless I had a spouse (my wife passed 17 years ago if cancer).
But I also have my other dream car of a Rolls Royce Ghost - we all have dreams - but many are unattainable.

In that sense 4K is like 3D; the average buyer won't take the plunge unless there is a significant amount of 4K content available- and there won't be much content unless a lot of 4K displays are sold. Unlike 3D however, no extra equipment is required, and a really good 4K display with 4K content is incredibly lifelike. The big question mark is price.

"There would be nothing wrong with using your cell phone while driving....in the state of Florida. It isn't right, but that's the way it is......half the drivers are doing that anyway."
I think you meant to say that it is legal in the State of Florida to talk on a cell phone while driving. There is a new statute on the books in Florida that it is illegal to "text" while driving a car, but the fine is $75 (pathetic) and there are restrictions on the police - they cannot stop you for just texting. They can stop you for another violation and can then give you a summons if you were caught texting at the same time. Very weak traffic law.
What aggravates me is the texting! Also, I see drivers on their cell phones in brand new Cadillacs, Mercedes, Jaguars, Lexus's, etc., all of which are equipped with Bluetooth! They are just too lazy to connect their phones when they get in the car.
I have my phone set for Bluetooth all the time so as soon as I push the ignition button, it automatically connects.
@abacomike said:There is a new statute on the books in Florida that it is illegal to "text" while driving a car, but the fine is $75
I may be wrong about Florida, but, back home, if you are in an accident while texting, the insurance company may not cover you......since you were breaking the law while texting.
So, even though the fine is a measly $75, it could cost much more...but, for most people, they don't think that far ahead.
On another sad note, we have to head back home tomorrow morning. Hopefully, the freezing cold winter will end soon, and we will miss anymore snow. I would love to stay longer in your beautiful state, but, our health insurance will run out and Canadians are only allowed to stay in the US for a total of 6 months - 180 days. Cdn Health insurance people should let us stay longer...we are probably a lot healthier being here in the winter.
"I may be wrong about Florida, but, back home, if you are in an accident while texting, the insurance company may not cover you....."
I really don't know the particulars regarding insurance companies, their policies, and the law if an insured is involved in an accident while texting. It might vary by state or by company.
If Florida would raise the fine to $500 for the first offense and $2000 for each additional offense, I believe texting while driving in the State of Florida would be reduced to insignificant levels.
BTW, have a safe trip back to Toronto. There is quite a bit of severe weather en route - so be careful.

I use my moonroof rarely for the same reason.
You make an excellent point. I've had the Touring convertible for 5 years now (owned the MG, Miata, and GTO in years past) and I'm tired of it. It's too hot in the summer with the top down and too cold in the winter. April and May, then October and November just about covers top down season where I live. Even during those months, my wife won't ride with me if the top is down. She doesn't like for her hair to get out of place. Out of the five years of ownership, last summer was the time that the top stayed down a lot. That's because my two great nephews stayed with us all summer and drove the car nearly every day. Other than that, the top doesn't usually go down but perhaps twice a year when I may take a trip to the beach by myself. I'm going to the beach next weekend to visit some old college friends. I'll probably put the top down then.
Here's another thing. If I want to crack a window for some fresh air during a period of rain, the water will drip inside from the convertible top onto the arm rest. I always like a window cracked when I drive. The SRX doesn't have that problem; only the convertible. After four convertibles, I'm not planning on purchasing another one. BTW, our Caddy has two moonroofs and we never use them---don't even think about them.
"After four convertibles, I'm not planning on purchasing another one."
Convertibles are delightful to drive in the short-run - but in the long-run, they have many disadvantages.
My recommendation to those of you who love to drive convertibles is to rent one from a car-rental company whenever you get the "itch"! Of course, if you get "itchy" every week, owning or leasing one is the better route.
Driver, do be careful on your trip. We're expecting lots of thunder storms here tomorrow and Sunday. The cold weather finally left here on Wednesday. I think that we are now safely into the warmer days. I'm so glad. It was a hard winter here in North Carolina.

The only problem with the X3 is that it now has 160k on the clock and at that mileage you never know what might let go. So I guess it would have to be the '02, although on the bright side I'm seeing some fairly ratty cars bring silly money, so as long as I keep mine in decent shape I won't take a loss when I finally let it go.

I would be happy to have a few extra cars of interest (an old jeep or PU, some kind of frivolous sports car convertible). As long as they were cheap, no big deal. The problem I have, is no darned place to keep them. Yet 1 more reason to convince my wife to sell the house and move!
and garage/parking space is my #1 criteria for a new place.

RB....I've yet to see a direct view flat panel that I would prefer over my "old" KURO. That said, the current batch of flat screens is much less expensive than my Pioneer.
I've seen those OLED sets. And, aside from some images that were filmed and prcessed as 4K, HD broadcasts and 1080p BDs look similar as they do on my display.
I don't hear much clamoring for 4K content either. So, not sure of the longevity of 4K capable sets.

As much as I enjoy my new car, my secret wish is to have a VW Bug with a stick to run around town with as a second car. But, alas, no place to park it. Besides, as little as I drive (10,000 miles a year at most), that would be a true waste of money and other resources. Who knows, maybe my next car!

I'm still debating on the convertible/hardtop issue. If I ever do get to Florida the vert seems the way to go but you can't beat the hardtop for all out performance. Doubt I'll ever get on the track but I do like the idea of terrorizing fellow grey beards in their vinyl roofed GMs
Mako1a: don't worry it'll be the V8.
I don't think I'd get a Vette for my late life toy because if I spent $90k on a car I'd be afraid to drive it for fear of it getting scratched. Not only that but who's going to help me get out of it?

That's pretty cheap. I've priced Gts on the Ford site with not much more than an automatic as options and came up with a price around $35k IIRC.
I debate the need for the Premium trip level and I certainly wouldn't need Nav systems but who knows when the time comes what will happen.

You might want to rethink your choice of a convertible, oldfarmer if you move down here. Mid April through mid November is brutal for driver's exposed to the very high UV rays of the sun. Evenings are great, but I find few old timers who drive at night - reduced vision of older eyes. That leaves December - March to drive with the top down without doing harm to your body due to the UV's.
I'd love to have a convertible, but my dermatologist would get furious - skin cancer is on the rise down here. I rarely sit out in the sun unless absolutely necessary for some reason.
I use my moonroof rarely for the same reason.

My brother had a 72 Bug. Learned to drive stick on it. Fun car with it's little putt putt exhaust note. No room, knees were up in the steering wheel so shifting was a chore.

There would be nothing wrong with using your cell phone while driving....in the state of Florida.
It isn't right, but that's the way it is......half the drivers are doing that anyway.

Some people are just idiots, what can I say!

If you like chocolate and you're in Daytona, check out Phelps and Angell in downtown. Very tasty stuff IMO at least.

If you are responding to driver100 or me, driver is near Tampa (west coast) and I am 200+ miles south of Daytona in far north Broward County. I don't think either of us would drop by for a taste.
IMHO, "Sees" Candy is outstanding! They have factories in San Francisco and Las Vegas - and they just opened an outlet kiosk in. Boca Raton. Better than Godiva - their milk chocolates, dark chocolates and white chocolates are to die for.

I have a Mustang GT convertible, but it's been around a while. Maybe the newer versions don't start to beat you up with the top down over 65 mph, like mine does.
Put that on your test drive list.
Richard
Actually, "luxuried" is a word. Good for you! You don't often see it used.
Richard

Richard
If you're ever in Hershey, PA, stop by the factory. On a visit there, I thought that I had died and gone to heaven. Speaking of such things, try this. It's a favorite at our house for chocolate lovers. Bake a Devil's Food cake with chocolate icing. Cut a thick slice of chocolate ice cream and place it on a thick cake slice. Then pour chocolate syrup over the top of the ice cream. Top it off with slightly melted chocolate chips. This dish is not for the faint of heart. Enjoy!
